The sets that really stood out for me were Sean Hampsey on Saturday night at this year's Soul Essence, an absolutely outstanding flow of Soul Music. The usual suspect was particulary good at Lifeline back in springtime and in Bamberg, in both rooms, but particularily the small room. Andy Dyson was brilliant in the lounge at Soul Essence, proper deep soul! The radio has been strong this year with Sunday Morning Soul People, Soul Discovery with Mick O'Donnell and True Soul with Kenny Mac. As this thread was started by Brett I have to mention his set at Essence as well. Put on his first record turned round for a minute and then realised people were on the dance floor cueing a panicked look on his face! But finally Dave Thorley playing The Tamangoes on the Sunday in Bamberg will live long in the memory to anyone who was there! Here's to 2011 for more of the same, Ady

There you go it's always about money, not the common good, the single biggest issue missing from our society. I'll get in touch with my local MP and try to see if he can even debate the issue! Today's announcements about letting the Post Office handle more work could be interesting. I just suggest some of the Management in the Post Office go and spend a day in an actual Post Office and they might learn something! Even better go and spend a day in a Swiss Post Office or a U.S. Post Office they'd hopefully be embarrased!

I'm with julesp 1905 (why don't people use names anymore Mr Postman!). If you have a reliable postie, evening Eddie, you get your mail no matter what the weather or whether your in or not. I live in a small hamlet (no pub, no Post Office so not a village) and when my usual postie is on duty records get left all over the place and my neighbours bring them round. On his last holiday I had 2 packages returned to the USA because I didn't answer the door or something! I also use my local village Post Office (1 Pub and obviously a Post Office!) to send off probably 20 - 30 packages a week all over the world with so far a 100% record, including sending records to Russia, Brazil, Serbia, even Spain and Italy!! To lose the Post Office would be a crime to all of us, so come on 1905 what do we do? Rant over, Ady

I was playing Harry Battensby's / Sean Hampsey's and Dylan's CDs while driving around Chicago last week and they certainly made sitting on the 1-294 roadworks more pleasurable than usual! Great LP and a big up to Dave and John for putting it out. There is something wonderful about receiving a proper vinyl soul LP in 2010. It's worth the price just for the experience of opening the mailer and seeing the picture of David Hudson and then dropping the stylus onto (Girl I'm Coming Home To) Something Good! Great CD from Steve Edgar, really enjoyed it! I got Cliff's today so we'll give that an airing tomorrow and I see one of my favourites is included "Thinkin' Bout My Happy Home" by Johnny Green, brilliant track to my ears. I think Jock has won the excuse of the swop award even though it's not over. I never go anywhere near I-Tunes on a PC as I have spent many hours sorting out my wife and daughter's computers when they have upgraded or pressed the wrong button. I hate I-Tunes with a passion! Played John Reed's CD a few times as I really liked it, especially the Fidelfatti track, Willie Collins, Charles Brimmer (sure I've got that LP somewhere!), Doug Haynes and of course one of the best Vietnam records from Troy Seals, although I still think R.B.Greaves - Home To Stay on Atco / Atlantic is the best ever Vietnam record. Now then Vietnam records would make a great swop covering deep, sweet and group stuff! I played John's CD driving home early on Sunday morning from DJing at a NS soul event. What a great antidote from some of the stuff I heard during the night! I'm now playing Steve Edgar's and the mix of Cissy Houston into Deniece Chandler into Derek Martin worked brilliantly. Keep it up chaps really enjoying the Cd's, Cheers, Ady P.S. just checked the Charles Brimmer is also on a 45, how sad am I!
