Agreed, we are lucky. And the fact there is so much choice available, which seemingly meets the soul community's diverse musical interests, answers the way forward IMO. Types of music and their roots do sometimes overlap, and some nights cater for that by playing the said types in the same venue. Some nights dont and just go with one genre........but if there's always a few options available at different venues (which there is in abundance), as punters and lovers of great music surely we cant complain.
-
Completely agree with you Mr C, well said. As someone who regularly attends these "new" nights, but also attends traditional soul clubs / nighters and has done for some time, i can see why the dancefloor etiquette subject may cause a stir. However........... My experience of things would suggest that these younger inexperienced people come to these nights, love the music, leave happy. Attend again, leave happy. Attend again, learn the rules, leave happy. Attend again, dance, learn more, spread the word, make friends from "the scene" and go on to more traditional nights where they're adopted into the world of soul. That can only be a good thing right? I dont think promoters of such nights should be knocked if they bring new blood into the scene, and perhaps introduce lesser known tunes / establishd genres into the scene too. Surely there's a place somewhere for everyone and everything? Variety is the spice of life, and we all started somehwere

When i first got into northern soul, and started reading up about any and every topic i could find relating to NS, it became immediately apparent that one of the most fascinating things about it, (in mine and im sure many others opinions), was the variety of labels and record companies who have issued such great music. The more digging and reading i did, the more i came to admire some of the label designs and unique styles of labels that were added to these great and often now expensive pieces of plastic. I've been fixated ever since! Considering some of these record companies didnt have the financial resources of some of the big players, its even more impressive that they managed to produce such spell binding art work on the labels. That got me to thinking, what is your favourite label? Not for the artists / music it produced, but for the art work? Could be a rare label, a one off, could be mass produced......what's your favourite, and why? If you own the record and have the abilty, load a scan too! To kick things off, i've always loved the Capitol label. It's not really a fancy design, but seeing those orange and yellow ying-yang esque swirls going round on a turn table is mesmerising. Arron

Ruby Andrews Just Loving You..spotting A Boot?
Liljimmycrank replied to Paul Byford 1's topic in Look At Your Box
Not sure if it has been booted, but this record on ebay is so varied in price its untrue. Many go cheap, but usually not as good a condition, VG or less (most have label wear). Its only really the minters on ebay that fetch the good money for Just loving you. Just an observation -
PM me if you're interested. Mandrill / Too Late Arista VG / VG+.......a few scuffs, and slight noise in parts but plays really well Looking for any of the following: Philharmonics - I need i need your love Exits - You've got to have money Lee Moses - Reach out (i'll be there) Cassietta George - Don't give up Hesitations - Is that a way to treat a girl Thanks Arron

Liljimmycrank replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
Not sure what the light blue is worth, but i think its rarer than the dark. Plenty of the dark blues about but i think £40 is a reasonable price. -
