  1. I was going through a box of records the other day which i haven't touched for ages, and found two demos i bought years ago. I think i've only ever played one of them out once when i was first starting out collecting / DJ-ing for 'fear' of them being boots! The tunes themselves are...... Joe Matthews - Sorry aint good enough / We got a good thing going, Thelma Demo T114 ztsc97692 AND Shirley Ellis - Soul Time / Waitin', CBS (UK) PROMO, 4901 Blue vinyl, cbs4901 Joe Matthews was the one i played out btw. Anyway, are these boots? If not, does anyone have any info on them? Doubt they're rare at all, especially the Joe Matthews one. Going rate? etc..... Cheers Arron
  2. Why do long term wants always turn up at good prices when ya skint :-(
  3. Anthony White's a bargain at that price, seen for lots more on lists recently.
  4. As ever Sebastian, 1st class knowledge! Thanks Nice scans too.
  5. Looking for some info on the 7" of Skip Mahoney - Janice, Salsoul. I know there was an anniversary single of sorts, but i was just wondering if this was legitimately issued by Salsoul on a 7" as well as the 12? Seem to recall seeing it printed in Tim Brown's old price guide book as a white demo. If so, what's the going rate, was it booted, how do you tell a boot, is it rare etc etc? Thanks Arron

  7. Sean Chapman's got one (or more)
  8. I agree Pete. On ebay, i just charge £2 1st class recorded. It's about £1.65 for the actual royal mail postage cost, record mailer and cardboard insert probably comes to 30 - 35 pence. How people can charge in excess of that is a joke really, very frustrating - Especially with Special Delivery.....The whole idea behind doing that is it insures you for up to £500, not max £37 from recorded delivery.
  9. Had mine a few months, great response on the floor each time ive played it. Credit to the guys at Crazy Beat who championed it when it first came out (plus others im sure).
  10. Paid £80 for mine a couple of years back, think it's still about that now, maybe touching £100? Great tune though
  11. Raise a dispute case on Ebay Pete. As long as it has been at least 7 days since the auction end. You'll be able to get your money back at least, and who knows, it might prompt the seller to actually hand the record over.
  12. My last 5...... SUNDAY - AINT GOT NO PROBLEMS (ALTEEN) RAY & DAVE - WRONG WRONG WRONG (MICA) JESSE DAVIS - HOLLYWOOD GYPSIES (ESSENCE) HANK JACOBS - ELIJAH ROCKIN WITH SOUL (CALL ME) JESSE JOHNSON - LETS DO THE FUNKY SOUL STROLL (STILETTO), ace double sider.
  13. Contact Eddy Edmondson, he's on here (not that much), or get his email from his webiste www.soulinthesun.com He'll know of some. I think Stef (the guy who used to own Stadium bar, where SIS started) owns a bar in the Americas, and plays soul. could be wrong though.
  14. Not sure which is the rarer label, this or Decca, but its a snip at that price regardless!
  15. £20ish, not bad for the tune i'd say, especially IF they are limited press. Wasn't it on a 100 club anniversary single, which would probably cost 3 times that (not suggesting a like for like of course).
  16. Well i for one have welcomed all John's responses he and his staff have provided to me. Very clear and professional. As for the somment about greed, i've had 4 timewasters in the last 4 months on ebay for decent value items so i'm a bit sick of it. Just wanted to use an established well trusted facility owned by a person who commands a lot of respect from my peers and potential customers in this scene - it's got f*ck all to do with greed. Thanks to all for their help on this one, via replies and PM's, which includes Mr Manship himself.
  17. Appreciate all your help and advice. Been in touch with John and got things underway now hopefully. Have to agree with many of teh above points. Commission rates are very reasonable and considering that on average, the auction end prices usually hit going rate as a minimum, it does work better than ebay for bigger items. Especially with the rather hefty fees taht ebay take, which when added with paypal comes out at close to 10%+
  18. Thanks for all the info, thats really helpful. The good experiences you've had dont surprise me. As with most things on John's site, it's a bit like a tin of Ronseal. You know what you get and people can expect quality. I've PM'd him, as was unsuccesful calling their office from the number on the website yesterday (tried a fair few times). Do you know if you as a seller distribute and sold 45's or do you post them to John in the first instance and they sort the rest?
  19. Hello oh knowledgable ones! I emailed Mr Manships website last week but havent received a response yet, and am usually too busy at work to ring before their closing hours, So........... I was wondering if anyone on here has sold anything via the auction and can you please give me a bit of info. i guess i need to know what the crack is basically, how do i go about selling something through the auction, is it worth while etc etc! What's John's commission rate, usual turnaround of auction to payment, is there usually a waiting list? Oh, and besides the obvious criteria of the record needing to be rare and in top nic, what if any criteria is there for selling somethign through the auction? All help greatly appreciated. Arron
