  1. Karl is leading the way at the mo for me, always enjoy seeing Arthur Fenn and Butch. Dave Rippolles deserves more deck time IMO, probably depending on the event.
  2. Played this at a do in Wakefield yesterday, went down really well. Top tune!!
  3. Someone grab Lorraine Rudolph, great price for an AWSOME tune, multi room potential Hard to pick one up for less than £50-60 these days.
  4. Got a clip of that? Intrigued, never heard it........
  5. P.S - Dave at Top Dog Records has the Epic copy up for sale at the mo, but the Columbia Special Products is legit 2nd release.
  6. Maxwell me old chum, get saving for this one im afraid! A cracking tune but you'll be going up a couple of notches on your budget's upper limit Not that easy to come by, although not overly rare. Have a listen to Frank Popp's 'Breakaway', it samples this tune and does a pretty good job at it IMO.
  7. The version which is on a 45 is the LIVE version and not the one played out. LP only for the superb tune that gets played out - available either on his greatest hits LP, or an album........name of which escapes me at the mo but there's been a few threads about it on here in the past.
  8. Thats an interesting point, to which in part i would agree. What i would question then is where do the 'mini-nighter' type nights come in - i'm referring here to nights that tend to run for about 6hrs, usually ending 2 / 3 o'clock, playing a mix of music - rare, forward thinking, some oldies / classics, underplayed. In essence, nighter type music just not for as long
  9. Whilst i agree that there is a commercial side to the scene, and also the gritty 'underground' stuff gets played, i dont think there are two different scenes as such The thread has highlighted, as usual, the difference in tastes of music, which creates sub sets of nights, genres, "mini-scenes" etc. HOWEVER Surely, this is still one scene - the soul scene? We can trace the music right back through history. The sounds of each genre go back to an origin which is where the soul scene started from. At the end of teh day, the music created the scene. Of course people have evolved the scene into what it is today, different tastes, breaking new tunes blah blah blah, but the constant is always soul music, which is why IMO it is just one soul scene. There's lots of choice out there, are people honestly plastic just because they're into a different aspect of the soul music scene? I would strongly suggest not.

  12. OR.... Could that be the mysterious film i mentioned in an earlier post which experienced funding problems? I dont have any more info than posted, apologies, and unlike some i dont like to speculate without knowing a bit more first.
  13. I was going through a box of tunes at home on Sunday passing a bit of time and playing some stuff i've not played out in a while, as you do. Came across a couple of tunes which to my dissmay had skips / jumps in them! Positive they didnt have them when i bought the record Once i'd got over the fact that these flaws had somehow 'magically' developed, i did the usual trick of playing around with weight or adding a 5pence piece to the top of teh cartridge to overcome the annoyance of skipping records. However, for one of them, this didnt work. I had the weight on 3.5 plus the 5pence piece but still a jump, ggrrrrrrrr. The record itself isn't overly expensive, mid to top end of the double figures bracket........but.......... Other than replacing it, do you have any more tricks of the trade to overcome such a problem? Anyone else had occasions where these flaws seem to randomly develop without any memorable incident which might have caused it? Your offerings welcome Azza

  16. Anyone got one?
  17. Hope he didnt get stung for the full budget. £150, poss £175 max i would've said. SUPERB tune though
  18. That could be the problem - try using internet explorer and save one of the pics you couldnt save using firefox, that way you'll know if its your web browser. If not, im stumpped mate, sorry
  19. Try 'save picture as' Chalky, should work every time. Allows you to save as J-peg
  20. You might just be right there Paul, it probably is. I obviously didnt make the comment in brackets about me not knowing how to spell the word clear enough. Should it be capoeira?? The word capawera did crop up on my google search when trying to find the correct spelling, and linked to the same subject matter. So does anyone, Paul included, know anything about this said film or auditions?
  21. yep, would agree. Would also say that formed a particular sound which then extended on past the time frame but still classed as crossover. Its all SOUL
  22. Should be a cheapo this one...... True Movement - Depression Mystic Insight PM me with price and condition please Cheers Azza
  23. Whats it go for? Tenner, less, more?
  24. A bit further off topic (although not that much different from the thread title)...... I've heard many a rumour that there is going to be a feature length film made on the back of Function At The Junction. Similar voices mentioned a few known Soul Source members and well know scenesters would be involved in the making of the film, but teh film since run into funding issues. Not sure if these rumours are true. However i do know that an actor friend of mine went to an audition for a soul themed film (not Souled Out / Soul Boy whatever its called) where he was taught some acrobatic dance moves by Capawera (is that even how you spell it) experts. Anyone shed any light?
  25. Cheers mate. Think 40 might be on the expensive side for this one, but maybe someone's got a spare on here?
