Bargain!! Going for a ton on other lists right now. -
Al Downing no more than £30.........shot up in price a few years back when Sam was playing it but now back down to sensible prices! Jackie Wilson £70-100 (there's a thread on it recently) Sold Joe Tex a few months ago, £35. Label was a bit battered though. £40 to £60 is about right, you might get more though............great tune Azza

Pretty sure it does have a legit 7" release. My mate Rich Buckley (on here) will be able to confirm for you. Someone get that Sir Guy, its going places!
-
Spin it for Lancashire Liam!
-
Great tune, tough on a 7!! Someone grab it

Too many to mention!! LP's are just SOOOOOOO underrated it's untrue. Many a time you buy an LP for a known LP only track, and then find other little gems on there! Or some are just packed full of great tunes that were released on single. Ralph Graham, Sonny Til, James Brown, Garland Green, Jerry Butler, Marvin & Tammi but to name a tiny handful.......All done amazing LP's packed with great tunes. I've no doubt this thread will go many ways - great LP's full of tunes, LP's with superb LP only tracks, discussions about playing a tune of an LP when it has a single release etc BUT All fantastic healthy debate, so well done to the original poster, hopefully it will throw up some nice finds!! At our event we book our Guest dj's because they excite us and know what they have in their collections, not from previous set lists but from talking to people. When they play, they have liberty to play whatever they want within the genres we advertise. If that means it's a set full of unknowns then so be it..........cos we know it will be superb unknowns and the set will flow etc. If they want to play known tunes then so be it, either way it's the dj's choice, our residents will then play round that. Atmosphere is always good and dancefloor activity is high. For the unknowns played the floor might not always (usually is though to be honest) be as busy but there's plenty of people listening intently. I personally think that if you're running a one room event, the promoter can often be the cause of these problems by dictating what guest dj's should play. If we want to start addressing the balance of underplayed vs overplayed then it's down to the promoters IMO azza

Liljimmycrank posted a gallery image in Soul Flyers
What a night in store we have for you this month!!! That Driving Beat Leeds welcomes Manchester's top club Beat Boutique over for a YORKSHIRE Vs LANCASHIRE SPECIAL!! For those who dont know about the Beat Boutique, it's run by Liam Quinn and Paul Barker, both of whom have ecclectic tastes in soul and run their club in that vein, capturing the enthusiasm they share for this great music and moulding this into a thriving monthly event! Liam & Paul will be representing Lancashire on the night and pitting their witts against That Driving Beat residents Azza, Rich Buckley & Eddie Wainwright. If that wasn't enough, you'll also be treated to an eagerly awaited debut guest spot from 100 Club's very own......... ADY CROASDELL!!! So for an exciting night of QUALITY across the board soul music, including northern, R&B, 70's soul, Motown, Funky soul and a twist of Latin, get yourself down to The Wardrobe in Leeds city centre. This really is one NOT to miss!! Sunken wooden dancefloor, amazing sound system and top atmosphere - what more could you want?! All delivered on original vinyl. That Driving Beat - YORKSHIRE Vs LANCASHIRE SPECIAL @ The Wardrobe, 6 St Peters Square, Leeds, LS9 8AH Special Guests: Ady Croasdell (100 Club), Liam Quinn & Paul Barker (Beat Boutique) Residents: Rich Buckley, Eddie Wainwright & Azza 9.30pm - 2.30am, £5 entry -
Another tune that will hike up in price cos of the advert!! Same happened to both the Timbox & 4 Seasons when they (Addidas) put Beggin on an ad, all be it aided by that Paluski chap or whatever his name is. Great record this though, plenty of em around, but wont be a £30 tune any longer. Give it a month and it'll be touching double that and then some

Have to agree with a lot of what Paul's put in his post and it's a good one - i'm sure inneveitably it will become and 'oldies vs newies' thread the more posts go up, but it's a good angle to start from. Mikey, Chalky and Matt all have valid points here in terms of the subject. Big name DJ's do attend these events and have a lot of rarities / unknowns / underplayed stuff in there collections, its a fact. However they're usually booked by the promoters for a purpose (sadly, often because of their 'other' side of the box, nighter classics etc - not always a bad thing though ey?). Their job in the main rooms is to fill the dancefloor, and i would hazzard a guess that a lot of the big namers stay in the main hall most of the night a) to avoid playing tunes already played and b) they're usually quite popular people and get chatting away to their many friends who are in attendance. I love to have a dance at nighters and will do it in which ever room im in, not because i know the tune but because it makes me want to dance!! I love rooms like Steve's and events which try and break the mould a bit whether that be soul night or nighter. I love all genres of soul too so its not a case of oldies vs newies, it's just good soul music that does it for me. Didnt make Radcliffe on Saturday but was at the Riley Smith Hall which is like a typical nighter set up but soul night timings. Main hall (oldies, classics) then a rare/freestyle room upstairs. They have the same blokes from downstairs playing upstairs too, but completely different types of sets. And you do see the other jocks up there taking it in as well as the punters. To finish, i'd raise a question back and say: how many 'big named' jocks, when not playing, attend these types of nights or rooms at nighters where rare and underplayed is spun? Answers on a postcard...........(personally i think a lot do attend them). Azza

Something that I've always percieved from this scene though Simon is that people within it don't actually care what the general public thinks of it, and find that in most (not all) cases. You do have a valid point though. For me, the film can be viewed as a success if it really captures the essence of the era. I wasn't there, I'm only 26, but my old man was and a lot if his mates and friends on I've made across all sections of this scene were too. I've had all the stories about the shit jobs, krap lifestyle, nothing to look forward to, then bang! This music comes along and provides a release for life's depressing stresses. Capture that in the sub plots and it'll be a good film. Quad, this is England et all - all great cult films, but the cults and their activities were just the backdrop. The characters and their sub plots are what really make the films good. Would we have liked quad so much if we couldn't have related to jimmy with naff job and sense of belonging only when in his mod gang? Probably not. Being a 'young en' (by age as opposed to the definition many hive that title on here) I don't think you'll see a mass influx of youth after the film. You will get some, but this will be more like the scooter crowd type young ens. Still, not a bad thing cos they can then either progress from an oldies environment or step outta their comfort zone into rare soul/nighters. Doesn't matter, the fact is they're in!!

A lot of talk about commercialising and money making re this film on this and other related threads. Anyone ever just thought that the script writer, like most script/story writers, just wanted to see their work put into a form of media and delivered to production for other people's viewing?? Isn't that what these guys n gals strive for? Their (sometimes life) work in the public eye? Or would that be too idealistic to be true! Sure they stand to make a few quid, but I'm pretty confident there's more 'commercial' scenes and cults to actually make money out of
