  4. Exactly Beeks. Lots of sh*te on there, as with anything, but if you look in the right places then you'll find the good stuff. Refo doesnt have everything, neither does youtube, but the net has lots to offer.
  5. Ah, a bit of a catch 22 situation that Chalky. If i dont know the different functions, i dont know what i want to learn, if you get me? Maybe a pinned thread in members feedback, or source news, where peeps can write about the functionality theyve learnt over time and then other members can benefit. Plus refo then gets used to its full potential wich can omly be a good thing.
  6. Love Youtube and the internet in general for finding out about tunes. Whether its blogs, podcasts, online radio, refosoul, forums or just plain old email to a knowledgeable soul! CHALKY - i know you're a busy man, but you seem to know refosoul inside out. Im sure many on here could really benefit from a refo 'tutorial' - just a simple thread with a series of screenshots and brief guide notes as to how to get the best out of refo??
  7. Probably between 5 and 10 oldies that if i had to pick would really do it for me. But to choose one, it would have to be...... TEMPESTS - SOMEDAY
  8. Always like Bataan stuff, pleasing to see this album released not so long ago. Might hunt one down and give it a spin at our night. RE your question about new stuff being played Simon; whether it's a new release (modern or old sounding), or whether it's a new discovery, i aint really that fussed...........if it's GOOD ENOUGH, then play it. Azza
  9. In paul's defence I don't think anyone is in a position to tell him to 'grow up' (other than maybe his wife of course!). He, like me, gave up a lot of his own time and holiday allocation to help the film out when asked, and also saw a test screening so is perhaps is best placed to offer an opinion on the film......all be it a negative one, but very much still valid based on his experience of the film. There was a group of us, who regularly attend soul events, who danced as featured extras on the film when asked by the production team. We thought like most on here, it could be a good project and benefit the longevity of soul scene. Whilst I stayed for the duration and even went back for extra days filming at the productions team request, I can see exactly where Paul is coming from. The simple fact is we did try to point things out on countless occasions but they didn't listen! On our advice they actually adjusted certain dance scenes otherwise they'd have looked like a junior school disco......this was only when we mentioned the possibility of walking out. We sat round for between 6-10 hours a day doing absolutely nothing. I know this is probably the way of filming but they only had the kings hall for 2 weeks and we regularly pointed out that they weren't gonna have enough filler footage. My personal opinion on the film was that it was ok (based on test screening). Storyline was weak as I like gritty British films and believe this could've been one. The dance scenes, whilst some say innaccurate, I think are good and get the idea across. The thing I don't like is how they have treated the people on this site and the scene with a lack of respect. People gave a lot of effort unpaid, the after party saga etc. I want the film to do well, especially as the soundtrack is a cracker. Hopefully this us an insightful post but happy to accept criticism, tis a forum afterall.
  10. Spencer wiggins a contender for the 100 club anniversary single perhaps???
  11. Cant remember for sure, but seemed to think Spencer sang this song at Cleethorpes??? Memory is very hazy though after a few hours kip that weekend and one or two shandys!! Ady - can you confirm or did i just want to hear it live that badly i made it up in my head?
  12. We always try to throw some latin on at our night and it ALWAYS goes down a storm. I think we might have even put 'What good is a castle' on our opening night CD (cant remember) but i know Rich spins it. Him and Eddie love Joe Bataan so always hear some hitting the decks amongst other latin rareties thrown into a mix of across the board soul. Azza P.S.......REG..........you should've asked Ady for some latin, im sure he'd have thrown Frankie Neives on.
  13. Shall we put you down as a maybe then Paul?
  14. The review of the film from a critique mirrors what I thought after seeing the test screening. Great soul bits and some decent acting but the plot is a little on the weak side and restricts the film from having a bit more grit.
  15. Seems then the best thing to do would attend the merlin aftershow party! Keep it with the soulies rather than the money maker. Having met some of the cast and crew, I know they genuinely like soul music and some continue to attend nights. So for those I'm in contact with, I'll be encouraging them to attend the merlin
  16. Not the best timing with a weekender coming up Dave, but i have to agree, this is ridiculously cheap mate!!! Dont sell it!
  17. What a shame they dragged Russ in to DJ. He had sweet FA to do with the film and whatever his reasons for agreeing to DJ, for me it sets the tone off wrong for the launch of the film. Guys like Dave Evison were advisors to the film on occasion, plus plenty of other people who they could've got and still recreated the oldies feel and had a great launch party. BIG own goal i reckon, and potential for the credibility of the film to be tinged somewhat.
  18. Get amongst these, some bargains still to be had........ https://shop.ebay.co.uk/themightyrhino/m.html
  19. Sounds about right Moz. He has indeed sold it. Dint know it was to eddie though, ha!
