Ey up Brett! In part, i absolutely agree with you. But to be honest, this look is still what is associated with today's 'northern soul' scene dont you think. Plenty of people still wearing that today. Most of them usually (using the term loosely) attend northern soul classic nights. Something which to me, although a faction of what is widely considered a 'soul scene' isn't what represents today's music. Yes they have their place, but things have moved on.........try not to cringe too much mate, you'll start looking old(er)

Couldn't agree more Steve. The actor actually does a reasonable job for someone who hasnt been emersed in a scene for the past 35 years, and whitnessed it's eveolution over the same period. I seriously doubt anyone could cram that into approximately 40 seconds of an 8 minute interview! Some things he said were wrong, but some weren't. The guy was taught by Liam and Keb on the dance front, and had lots of other 'scenesters' to learn from, well established people i might add. Each to their own though, if you think he's c*nt who knows f*ck all about northern soul then you're probably right As for the guy at the end of the clip, watch the film and you'll see the context. I think the phrase 'artistic license' was used in the interview.

Whats Occuring In 2010 - Did You Dj At Weekend?
Liljimmycrank replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
I went to an all dayer in Manchester at the weekend. It was a 12pm-2am shindig run by the lads who promote Beat Boutique. Free entry and placed upstairs in a popular bar in Chorlton you'd think this might be a disaster for random drunks and passing skallies, but it certainly wasnt. I did a spot early doors and just played across the board stuff, but to be honest the approach taken by the promoters was 'play what you like' so didnt feel compelled to play to rule, which is always refreshing. They put on a wide range of DJ's all playing their own styles, many of whom DJ across teh different sectors of the scene today. Atmosphere was great all day. Plenty of young ens and older ens getting into the groove. Dancing, finger tapping, chin stroking a plenty. It was a great warm up for many who then went on to the Greatstones. For me, the music was of the upmost quality. Something in it for every soul fan. Even those who didnt perhaps know the tunes enjoyed it. Personally, i think promoters should put more of these types of events on in popular areas. The music took centre stage and there was a real buzz about the place. All teh DJ's seemed to have a blast and enjoyed playing the free raine. More all day, open minded and genuine across the board soul sessions for 2010 / 2011 please Azza -
