Ann Sexton done some great funky edged soul. 'I still love you' being another great example I gotta agree with most things said on this whole thread so far, brilliant music this is. Tempo variences, soul funk crossing over - debates about where it starts and ends, great stuff. A lot of the tunes mentioned thus far are quite big on the money stakes but the great thing about this stuff being relatively undiscovered (compared to say the out and out 60's soul Chalky elluded to earlier) is that you can pick a lot up cheap. Just a case of getting out there, digging and listening. Original post mentioned about a compilation CD; Thinking i'll be making one for my own ears at home based on this thread, awsome stuff!! Azza

Roni Hill Bargain!

Go tell keb darge that. Pretty sure his record speaks for itself. Some people will pick the moves up and be brilliant after months of tuition, some will be average and some will be, well, shite to be honest. No point blaming the teacher. Sometimes as much as someone tries you just can't jazz up a turd!

FIRST BATCH ENDING FROM 5 OCLOCK TODAY! Still some real bargains, vivian reed going for a song at the moment!!! -
I went to see this last night at Bradford film and photography museum (the IMAX basically). The cinema was about three quarters full with a real mixed crowd. We went as a group of about twelve of us, mix of all ages, stevie T being the oldest, my friend Georgina being the youngest at 24. Most of us into soul scene / mod scene, but 4 weren't. I had seen a test screening previously so kinda knew what to expect. The positive thing was the film crew had clearly taken constructive criticism gathered from the screenings on board and changed a lot of things, cut certain scenes etc (sadly not the dance off though, more on that later). From my own personal point if view, the film isn't the worst thing I've ever seen. When alls said and done it's s romantic comedy, a bit slapstick at times, slightly cheesy but light hearted with it's intentions. There's elements of the film where the director manages to get you to understand the character's plight but for me, it needed more of that. I really thought this was a fantastic opportunity to offer up a gritty brittish film with meaning and purpose but I think they've missed the boat, this bumbles along at the same mediocre pace it sets off at. That may well have been the intention but I wouldve prefered something a bit more attention grabbing - all the elements were there......70's life, tough times at home, dull employment, football hooliganism, the release at weekends, drugs, and of course the emergence of the underground soul scene. On a positive note, they got the soundtrack right and songs fitted in well at the right parts of the film. I thought martin compston did a good job in a restricted role. I also thought they did a decent job of mixing old clips into the film, not seemless but fairly smooth. They really should have cut the dance off. It's the biggest pile of cheesy cringeable bile I've ever seen in a film, 'worse than any part of teen wolf' were the words of my missus! A naf way to end the film indeed. The others with me thought it was ok. There was plenty of knowledge amongst us re the music and the scene, but only one was actually there at the time. Judging it for what it is, they thought it was ok, nothing serious or thought provoking, just light hearted fun. One even cried at a certain point in the film; although to ne fair she is in her 7th month of pregnancy and her hormone levels are all over the shop!! Would I recommend people to see it? Probably not. If you're a film buff you won't like it, but if you're curious as to what it's about then go see it. I wouldn't disuade people from seeing it. 4/10 from me Azza

As a lot of this stuff seems to have just exploded in the popularity stakes in last few years, you might struggle to get a really good compilation cd. Although suggestions so far are good. My advice would be try and track down set lists from guys like karl heard et al and make your own up for use around the house. Amazing tuneage

Have a browse through these, will be adding some more soon too. All ending between 13th and 15th so get em in your watch list and get bidding!! https://shop.ebay.co....htyrhino/m.html Cheers

Thats quite a well attended cinema so be interesting to see attendances. I'm going to the IMAX to watch it on Friday (i'm 100% positive it wont be on the gigantic screen though) with about 10 other people, mixture of ages, some into the music some not.

Ricardo Ray & Mongo Santamaris that have previously been mentioned are brill tunes, always gone down a storm at That Driving Beat and fill most soul floors when played out. Drop a PM to my mate Rich Buckley on here. He's got bucket loads of latin stuff and knows his onions on the genre!

Plenty of ways to contact Keb and ask him yourself

I could understand it if you wrote 'reissue' in 0.0001 size text so it looks like a large full stop!! But you didn't. The buyer should either pay or accept the non paying strike that should rightfully be placed next their name

Hear hear that man! Stick it on the bay mate, open to a worldwide audience over a week or so, can't say fairer than that ey. Best of luck
-
Probably also worth noting that the 'battened ships' record is increasingly in demand with the b-boys. Not justs peeps from the soul scene chasing this lp
-
Is the Johnnie Taylor the LP?? If so, bargain!!
-
Personally Kieran i would have said a mint copy would fetch more around teh £80 mark, however it is an LP that is massively in demand, so £100 may well be achievable. 2 great soul records on it that would work out at 50 quid a piece........well worth it!!
-
A bit like most brittish films these days unfortunately. 'Down Terrace' being a recent example

I think daweedsmoka on here is after the flares record
