  1. Get the black vinyl copy, looks much better (label and vinyl). After searching long and hard for what i thought was the Barbara Mercer track, i started a thread on here a year or so ago and luckilly someone pointed out the above in terms of Neil's release. A superb version indeed. For me, better than the Creations. I played it at Soul Galore last year in the same night that one of the residents played Creations........a faux pas many would say but the dancefloor reaction suggested otherwise. A great way to spend a tenner!!
  2. the 12" of ' Signs of a dying love' has the same mix as the 7 on the A-side with the longer version on the b-side. A lot rarer than the 7. In terms of value the 7 is cheaper as it's more readily available, but to be honest you don;t get much more for your money in terms of a different mix, just an extended one! Either way, a quality tune and one which will stay in my box for a while (on a 12 )
  3. Aye, it's not an expensive one but proving a bugger to find mate, hence my post on here. Money ready and waiting if someone has one they'll part with??
  4. Cheers pal. Already tried mr Topping and unfortunately all his copies have gone. Should get one though hopefully.......
  5. Looking for The Salem Travelers - tell it like it is on 7" please. If you've got a copy please pm me with condition and price. Or txt me 07968174086. Cheers Azza

  8. That's fantastic Biff, thanks for that, really appreciate it.
  9. Check waterfall_manc sales post. He posted this up recently, not sure if it sold?
  10. What a record! Never heard it until Sunday, on the hit list now Azza
  11. Thanks for the info steve. If you fancy selling your copy drop me a pm :-)
  12. False alarm, still looking please....
  13. Still looking mark. I'll drop you a pm now mate
  14. Thanks for people's response so far. Had a couple of pm's for records, and thanks to Mick and Dee for donating some records at the horse and groom on sunday. Had a few people mention they're sorting some vinyl and cd's for this Sunday too, it's all greatfully appreciated and will hopefully go soneway to making a lot of money for a worthy cause. If anyone out there would like to donate any duplicates or unwanted cd's or vinyl please do get in touch. If you promote soul events in the Warrington/Manchester area and would be willing to donate some free entry passes then please get in touch also. I'd be happy to make sure some flyers went out with your donations, may well generate some attendees to your event as a result. Cheers Azza
  15. Different clubs and eras have defined soul sounds over the years, introducing varying types like soulful RnB, blue eyed soul etc. Not strictly what you'd class as out right soul but is still standing the test of time, mainly because it's soulful. As long as this movement of funk edged soul indeed soulful why can't it be played on the soul scene? Will it stand the test if time? Yes, if it's good enough. Perhaps some examples of what you class as funk being played on the soul scene might help put your view point into perspective?
  16. After this awsome modern soul piece of vinyl please. If Anybody's got one or know who might have one and wants to off load it, let me know via pm or email arronadams_azza@hotmail.com Cheers Azza
  17. Firstly, apologies if you feel like you constantly get bombarded with charity requests. Secondly, if this is in the wrong section. again apologies but mods feel free to move. I know fairly short notice......but in an appeal to your charitable sides....... I'm attending a charity auction on the 4th march in Warrington. It's something that the missus' uncle is organising and the charity is called St Rocco's which is a hospice his wife passed away at. The hospice did a great deal for their family and as a result he does as much fund raising as he can in return. Anyway, I've been asked if I can put something northern soul related together for auction. my plan was to put a box of vinyl and other bits in for the auction. I've been through some boxes at home for some oldies that I don't want but unfortunately have sold most on in last couple of years. Have so far put about ten records together, northern and Motown, and am going through the cd racks too. So, what I was hoping you guys could do is check to see if you had any unwanted vinyl. Doesn't have to be expensive by any means, probably oldies and club classics, that type of thing. Could be boots or re-issues, uk, us whatever. Or if you have any orig CDs you're not interested in anymore. Also, if you run an event or promote an event (especially in that area, but not essential) and want to promote it with your donation, leave some flyers and I'll make sure they're dished out with it. Or maybe some free entry tickets to throw into the package??? I'm gonna be at Horse & Groom tomorrow, hopefully Crofton Soul Galore and Afternoon Delight Soul Clun next week too so anything you can donate I'll be at those events to thankfully take them off your hands. If you need to mail them I'm afraid I can't cover your costs so that would rely on your generosity too. If you need anymore details please just drop ms a PM. Thanks for taking time out to read this regards Azza
  18. Can only assume that's what it's like in Australia as I don't see it like that over here. At the end of the day, Divs are divs whether young or old. Not right to brandish all with the same brush, which I would take personal offence to. Besides, what's that got to do with the dj's of the future? Or perhaps these young vagrants you mention are the future!
  19. Apologies if I've missed your point chalky but I was referring to dj's not events. I'm just saying that they offer something different, just like the guests who play at the events you've listed offer something different. I'm not saying they're better or not than those guests but that they should be considered, otherwise how can people claim it nit to be a closed book? Anyway, it's the promoters choice at the end of the day so what we think doesn't matter :-)
  20. Yeah I know mate, but there was one for £700 ish I think, wouldn't have put you onto a boot :-) Checked now and it's gone but it's also been sold from the site I saw it on rarenorthernsoul dot com. Seems to have sold most his bigger ticket items that were listed in the last month Azza
  21. Sure i saw a buy it now on ebay?? Listed with a lod of other rare stuff too, all buy it nows. Could be Steve Jefferies as they seemed to be the same sort of tunes listed on ebay as were on his website
  22. YES and YES to both answers Chalky, and that's an honest opinion. I think these guys do offer something different. You only have to step into Steve's room at Radcliff for example when he's had one of them on and they're likely playing something that's not tried and trusted. I'm not saying every tune in their box is different, or that they're absolutely cutting edge constantly, but then again who is? and for teh very few that are (probably counting them on two hands) there's not enough of em to go round. But the people i mentioned do offer something different, and they have the balls to showcase it. Whether its underplayed, rare or just down right different and never heard of before, they will play it. I'm not saying that an 'old DJ' can't do that either, just saying you don't see them doing it as often (in general). Obvious exceptions on both sides wouldnt you say mate? Like i said though, young or old, it's irrelevant as long you can do the bizzo and deliver a cracking set. P.S - leave the pension for now mate, still plenty of life in you yet
  23. Some really interesting points on here and whilst some ventured off topic slightly I think they've all been relevant, which makes a change. Steve, Paul and Chalky have all made great points which evaluate where we're at today and what might happen in the future, from a young ens and old ens perspective. One thing that has annoyed me a tad in all this was that young people can't necessarily afford big ticket items or don't have mortgages??? What a load of old sh*t. If you've got the money and wanna spend it on vinyl being young doesn't make a difference. Completely agree with Brett in terms of OVO and matt male also...........any DJ worth their salt should play from original vinyl, and I don't actually think that moving away from that script opens a door to more young dj's at all, if anything it stops it. Why? Well I for one (being a youngster who dj's and promotes) would be unlikely to support such events. It's a factor that forms the evolution of this scene and young people do like cults and movements with history, FACT. no need to change this in my opinion. Mark - to answer your point, as a young en of course, it doesn't matter the age of the DJ and I don't think it puts people off attending prodomently 'young audience' dominated events of they turn up one time and a 50+yr old is behind the decks. As long as the Dj can cut the mustard then the young audience will love it. That's no different to todays scene. As been mentioned guys like Karl etc feed of a crowd and deliver the goods. I've put on plenty of the 'old guard' at Driving Beat and they've always gone down extremely well, mainly because i think they fit our music policy and also because we give them the freedom to play what they want within the bounds of the genres we promote. But that's the same fit the young guys too. Our night, a bit like beat boutique in terms of attracting mixed crowds (although would say BB is more younger prodominantly), plays a mix of genres, and that includes the stuff classed as rare soul. That's because the guys who promote it and DJ at it 'get it'. A key point which I think has been overlooked in all this in terms of young DJ's is that, whilst we're able to tap into a mass of knowledge built up over years, we also have no prejudice or bias of bygone eras that may have built up over said years. No particular phase of our lives music wise which may now form an influence on DJ styles and our collections, a blank canvas if you like. I agree with Chalky in that the young DJ's shouldn't be going like for like with the older ones, but on the whole other than the odd 'gimic' ones, I don't think they do. Guys like Callum, Liam, Paul, Maxwell, Rich Evans etc. They have the passion, an ear for great tunes, good knowledge, fantastic varied collections and also, above all else, can knock fantastic spots together full of energy, flow and dancefloor driven tuneage. These guys should be playing more now, never mind waiting for the future. That's up to the promoters though. Will be interesting to see how the freestyle room at Rugby goes down in April. In summary of my answer to the original post, the next generation of dj's are out there with open minds and ears, collections and play boxes bulging tunes across the board both price and genre. If people want to put them on at their events they will, if not then the clock of life is ticking on for everyone and it's only a matter of time :-) Azza
