Just wanted to come on and publicy say a HUUUUUUUUGE thank you to everyone who donated. The prize that went up for grabs consisted of about 20 northern & soul related CD's, 60+ 45's in an orig 70's vintage vinyl box plus 4 passes for The Northern Line and 4 passes for Manifesto soul clubs. To those who donated, you know who you are and your generosity was absolutely fantastic. It was a craking event on Saturday night and the St Rocco's Hospice representative was blown away by the effort that went into the whole event. The soul lot put together of the back of your kind donations raised £150!!! This was the third highest lot behind a signed Wayne Rooney shirt (which also came with signed posters from 1966 world cup winners) and 2 tickets to see Man Utd Vs Marseille in teh Champions League. Given the other lots on offer such as signed Ricky Hatton gloves, signed Warrington Wolves shirts etc, i think that's a great achievment. With the auction, ticket sales, raffle and other bits, they raised between £2500 and £3000. So once again, thanks to all those who've contributed!! Azza

Ey up Chalky, Genuine question from me in response to this........... I appled the term 'across the board' to our Driving Beat nights (mainly in discussions with people and on the events forum, not mentioned on flyers). Would you say that was genuine across the board having DJ'd there? Just interested as i believe it does class as across teh board and is not an oldies night with the odd 70's, given the mix of what's played. Similar to Move On etc where they mix it up with a bit of everything.

After searching long and hard for what i thought was the Barbara Mercer track, i started a thread on here a year or so ago and luckilly someone pointed out the above in terms of Neil's release. A superb version indeed. For me, better than the Creations. I played it at Soul Galore last year in the same night that one of the residents played Creations........a faux pas many would say but the dancefloor reaction suggested otherwise. A great way to spend a tenner!!

the 12" of ' Signs of a dying love' has the same mix as the 7 on the A-side with the longer version on the b-side. A lot rarer than the 7. In terms of value the 7 is cheaper as it's more readily available, but to be honest you don;t get much more for your money in terms of a different mix, just an extended one! Either way, a quality tune and one which will stay in my box for a while (on a 12 )

Thanks for people's response so far. Had a couple of pm's for records, and thanks to Mick and Dee for donating some records at the horse and groom on sunday. Had a few people mention they're sorting some vinyl and cd's for this Sunday too, it's all greatfully appreciated and will hopefully go soneway to making a lot of money for a worthy cause. If anyone out there would like to donate any duplicates or unwanted cd's or vinyl please do get in touch. If you promote soul events in the Warrington/Manchester area and would be willing to donate some free entry passes then please get in touch also. Different clubs and eras have defined soul sounds over the years, introducing varying types like soulful RnB, blue eyed soul etc. Not strictly what you'd class as out right soul but is still standing the test of time, mainly because it's soulful. As long as this movement of funk edged soul indeed soulful why can't it be played on the soul scene? Will it stand the test if time? Yes, if it's good enough. Perhaps some examples of what you class as funk being played on the soul scene might help put your view point into perspective?
