Riley Smith Hall Warm Up Tadcaster 22/10/2011
Liljimmycrank replied to Illya's topic in Event Playlists - Reviews
Forgot that Phil played prince Paul, lobe that tune!! My set from upstairs, 7.30-8.10ish, in a kind of order. Bobbie Smith - A new day is dawning (lp only) Christian Plique - Hot foxy woman Eddie Kendricks - Date with the rain Everyday People - World fullof people David Lenyard - It could have been you Ernie Johnson - You got to be faithful and true O'jays - Thats alright Richard Knight - Showsyoppee Toussaint McCall - Baby you got it Larry Williams - Wake up Williams Singers - So good to be alive Azza -
I've only scanned the 3page thread, and sure it would have been mentioned, but....... INTERPRETATIONS - I'VE GOT NOTHING BUT TIME ...........Fantastic record that oozes soul, and sure it was an IL production?? Granted, the other side is utter sh*te but out of all his productions, IGNBT stands out by a country mile for me. Mainly because it doesnt have a hint of cheesy karaoke pop sound in it, which i think is what most people (rightly) associate with his productions.

Greedy Venue Owners Not In Tune With The Soul Scene
Liljimmycrank replied to Suinoz's topic in All About the SOUL
That's why it was such a shame mate. But I can see where Tony is coming from. Sadly though, it's all too familiar a story and makes promoting that bit harder! Probably a factor into some do's hitting the graveyard I suspect. -
Greedy Venue Owners Not In Tune With The Soul Scene
Liljimmycrank replied to Suinoz's topic in All About the SOUL
In the UK, from my experiences in Leeds, venue owners quite frankly couldnt give two sh*ts about our scene let alone be tuned in. They're business owners who get countless enquiries about their facilities. Whether it's a city centre venue, working men';s club, old ballroom etc, it doesn't matter. They want as many people in to take a good wedge over the bar, and although each venue manager will differ, they usually want to charge you for the privellage. We used to run That Driving Beat in one of the best venues in Leeds, The Wardrobe. That place was the spearhead for alternative music (funk, Jazz, soul etc) in Leeds and had an unbelieveable room downstairs that was perfect for a soul event. They charged extortionate amounts to any promoter wanting to put a gig on, and had we not had the promise of reduced rates after a couple of months, we wouldnt have considered it. BUT we did, and paid for it big time (in the pocket). They offered little assistance and even put the squeeze on with wanting better bar takings, more numbers through the door etc. But wouldn't budge in terms of room costs, bar prices, switching friday to Saturday............all of which would've helped achieve what they wanted. We're now in a cheaper place, where the bar is new and looking to US as promoters to help lift the exposure and reputation of the bar. Much more willing to work with us as it's in their business interest. Plus one of the owners likes a bit of soul/motown, northern etc, which is a bonus. Simple fact is, venues and managers are greedy, but its their job to be. Business is Business i suppose. You'd need deep pockets as a venue owner to ignore 'the next big thing' for your business, just to accomodate a soul event. Turning nasty after 5 years is a bit out of order though. -
Sure i saw one on Adam Leaver's sales list a month or so ago for £375. He's normally quite fair on price. Always had this down as a tough-ish record to get hold of, but by no means rare. Just popular.

Summits - Never Say No, Going Rate?
Liljimmycrank replied to Liljimmycrank's topic in Look At Your Box
Funny how i didnt get a single response last year when i posted this. But thanks for that Keith. That Manship result is absolutely outrageous!! Was it definitely the I'll never say no record? Was it a demo or somert?? If just plain issue, i can't believe it. I was wondering just the other day whether a batch of these had been found recently? Mainly because it's popped up on reputable dealers lists, and ebay shops/auctions quite a lot recently. Have they turned up? Or are people just jumping on the back of a couple of decent ebay results? ALL of which are for a lot less than the Manship result, a third of the price in fact. I was lucky enough to get one at a decent rate. I'd say between 200-240 ish would be about right now? -

Wasn't sure on rules for uploading mps's in sales section so apologies to Mods in advance if i shouldn't.......but here's a sound clip of said record....... Len Barry Cover Up.mp3 -
Wouldn't read too much into that - Another success for Sebastian (fair play to him), just like the Esther Williams which went in the same batch. Dont even think the one on Manship's auction went for anywhere near that, although can't remember exact figure? Could be wrong though, maybe that's now the going rate.

I agree with Dylan. £300 is about right these days, however this tune tends to do well on Ebay as a general rule of thumb so that might be the way to go John. You might get lucky with some auction warriors/loons like Brett said Certainly one i've wanted for a while Azza
