  1. Same with Brothers of soul 45 Joe. Not rare in the slightest and a very easy one to turn up. Not always in the best nick, but good copies are not hard to come by
  2. That Ray Rodiriguez is on a very elusive 45. Loads of fantastic latin stuff with a northern vibe, some LP only but lots on 45. Tend to find a lot turn up in battered condition, especially the rarer stuff. A banging "northern" latin number i play a bit (cos it's cheap and im from Yorkshire!!), is this on Alegre...........
  3. From memory, it was about 2ft in width Bob (60cm)?
  4. Trying to stick purely at a DJ level (i.e. not getting into genre based arguements about forward thinking Vs oldies events, and promoters picking dj's for such reasons)............... I'd go with the following: UK - Pat Bleasdale, Ted Massey, Mick H, Karl Rhodes Europe - Marc Forrest, Yann Vatiste (although technically he's UK these days) All teh above have the ability to blend a mixed set together seamlessly and deliver 'something for everyone' without sacrficing on quality and flow, ergo striking an excellent balance. I could've mentioned a few others who don't get the big gigs, but these are the one's in the spotlight. I tend to find folk like Ginger Taylor etc lean too much one way in their sets, almost a bit predictable, which to me goes against the meaning of the word balance. Nothing personal against him of course, just my view on this topic as it's been laid out.
  5. My mate Rich Buckley has a great book on 'beach' soul, might even be the one Bob mentioned earlier. Big soul bands like the Embers feature in it. In fact, "Where did i go wrong" is a tune that i'd say was typical of the beach sound that's crossed over to the northern circuit. Phil Shields is the beach to northern master!! Sublime "northern" sets with massive beach influence

  7. Not sure where a lot if that anger comes from, and im failing to see where this lack of respect is in anyone's posts? Also its odd you seemed to think people missed your point; they were merely offering words of advice from their years of experience. Take in what you want from it or ignore it. I see a lot if support for you on this thread to be honest as opposed to people going against your views, so whats with the zealous defence? you have to accept that people have their opinions about OVO, which might well be different to yours. I wouldn't say that's them showing a lack of respect and most are generic, not directed towards you. If their comments aren't positive just ignore them, sadly in this world some people use their right to free speech in negative ways. I'm a young en myself, and respect you for what you played. The room is not an OVO room as such, and you certainly seem to have a good knowledge of tunes and understanding of how to put it together. But respect is earned in life, and I don't think having a go at people for expressing their views will help on that front, it is a public forum after all. Just my view.
  8. When this first burst onto the scene, it was a £200-er. Basically, a new discovery and a few of the lads from these shores got quite a good number from Dwight himself, which got shifted around. It's since gone right down in value - usual story about more being turned up from the states etc as it gained expsoure at venues. I have had a couple of copies. But recent price is about the £100-120 mark Azza
  9. Thanks for having me over to spin a few gents, was a pleasure. Only wish health would've allowed me to stay past 6 as it looks like i missed more quality tuneage!!
  10. Great sounds from Rich, Martyn and Gumbo. Mr Wainwright is a technophobe so i might not get his playlists, but they followed suit to the above........mixed genres, tempos and style. Great balance guys, loved every minute of it!!
  11. Here's mine from the small 45mins slot I did at 10.30 (I'd much rather hear the rest of the guys play, ha!). Think the order is about right...... 12. Great spot Martyn. Read the crowd really well and kept the floor full. As always I like to give our guests freedom to play what they want within the bounds of what we advertise genre wise - thought you and gumbo did that superbly, with crowd in mind and managing to stamp your own on your sets!! Top notch, couldn't have asked for more.
  13. Bit pricey £300. Unless its the red label copy, which is much rarer. White labels should be much cheaper than that
  14. I'd agree, issue is harder than demo. But mainstream demos do look the business.
  15. Funding a few wants so offering some of these up cheap. If you want anything from the list, just PM me. I'd be happy to listen to reasonable offers especially on multi buys. Graded conservatively and those lower in the scale play really well. Postage £1 standard or £2 recorded UK EU is £2 standard, £5 registered ROW is £3 standard, registered varies so please ask. 16. That's the style I was thinking of Martin. Couldn't remember the company
  17. Sh*t loads on eBay J. Some with free post
  18. You can get one of the cheap ones which hold about 50, and even though the handles are rubber, it still rips your hands to shreds cos of the weight. Get one of those bag/cases on wheels with extendable handles mate. Think they're from Kam and other companies. The ones the jet setting house dj's use (am I making sense)?! :-)
  19. Afro Blues Quintet has gotta be the bargain of the week mate!! A tough tune that was fetching 3 figures only a year ago, and certainly not in mint condition!
  20. I'm sure George manhood had one on his last sales list. You can contact him on here (George M, I think) or email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com Azza
  21. Always goes down well at driving beat. It's one of those that can be played at many types of do's / in different rooms.
  22. Tomorrows men is a steal!! Quite a tough one to track down and not often in good nick!
  23. I had two copies of sampy. Couldn't shift it for love nor money on here or ebay Heard it in hamburg at the weekender, sounded awesome so thought I'd give it another bash. They both flew out the door in minutes!!! Had loads of messages and still get messages for it via eBay! Defo a great tune. And seems to be hot property old pow wow spin apparently
  24. Whats wrong with Leeds? Many a great soul artist played in Leeds and very string music/gig pedigree for music in general. Maybe the promoters were worried about the overkill in Manchester and didnt want to compete with MEN Arena gigs.
