  1. Other than the ones most people seem to agree on as listed so far, and when I say agree I mean acknowledge that the song is soulful with a funk influence/edge/undertone, what about listing the ones that are out and out funk/blacksploitation. One that comes to mind......... Not soul in my book, it's funk, but seemingly accepted to a lot of folk on the soul scene because some of the big boys played it
  2. What's not danceable about the Fred Williams record? Sure, it's not a 100mph stomper but it most certainly is a dancer. Ask any of the 400 people who rammed the dancefloor to it at hamburg weekender last year when Marc Forrest dropped it right into the middle of a rawcus up tempo set, and again in Manchester recently - as many on the floor for that as any other time during the night, including the big soul niter spins. Similar in a way to NS classics like Sam Fletcher (which usually fills floors) the tempo and vibe of this just builds and builds. It's do soulful it hurts, that's why it's a dancer. Is it funk? Na, not in my view. Think it gets confused for a funk record because of the guitar work. But it would, and does, work on both the soul and funk scenes.
  3. I'll happilly admit to playing it, there's lots of it i love and equally some stuff i think is out and out funk so don't like (each to their own). Don't play full sets though, but then again i'd never play a full set of just one genre/tempo anyway, that's dull!! Tracks like John Harris, Waymond Hall, Charlene & Soul Serenaders, Grey Imprint etc, all great dancing records that have something about them and when you weave them in right go down very well even with the more discerning of punters.
  4. Rare soul weekenders in Europe do really well, and are attended by a mixed crowd. Could it do well over here? Yes, why not. There's enough DJ's who can put genuine sets of rare/underplayed soul together to keep the crowd more than happy, at any time of day/night during the weekend covering all genres. Would it get huge attendance? No, Not in my opinion. BUT if you reign in expectations about numbers through the door and put an event on for the right reasons then it would be a success. No point trying to fill a hugemongous old hall with thousands of people for a rare soul niter/day session. The right venue/venues would need to be selected, big enough to meet demand (would this even exceed 3-400??) but small enough to realise iwhat the attendees are flocking there for. Don't be too greedy, get the right people behind the decks, offer something for everyone throughout the weekend and it will be worth rare soul lovers investing their hard earned cash. Callum's idea is an interesting concept (we did a yorks vs lancs thing a few years ago, which was a bit of fun but led to some fantastic sets on the night), and i also agree with Steve's counter comments about the day sessions and what they bring to the mix, all of which would have appeal to rare soul fans i think. But, like Mr Cato said, lots out there already and perhaps it would be worth the promoters of existing events (similar niters/weekenders/Day sessions) coming together to put this shin dig on rather than just one rep running it and it becoming yet another event clogging up the calendar and not quite hitting it's objective. 5. Larry Williams is sooooooo good, and half the price of going rate. I agree pat, sounds like it should be expensive
  6. I mentioned the one on Chris Anderton's list to D. Has it sold? I'll keep my eye out for another Kirsty.
  7. Yep, amazing record. Always been on my 'out of range' wants list (as in if i wasn't from Yorkshire and tight, i could stretch the budget and buy it but suppose i need to keep it real). Hope it goes to a good home Tony. If only i'd not just committed to going to Australia for a holiday i might have been VERY tempted. Azza
  8. Probably. Maybe you could sell us one each of your handful of the $10 copies you got in the 90's Jordi? Great show again by the way mate
  9. Tune indeed. I just missed out on the one on Anglo list for 150. Guessing you did as well Tony? His best surely

  12. One in sales if yer still lookin, 50 notes, decent price I reckon.
  13. Was a want out for profiles Don in wants section. Don't know if they got sorted with one?
  14. Steve Green's copy is the one listed on Facebook in Rare Soul Sales, and it's been reduced to £250, which is cheap IMO for one in EX condition
  15. Certainly did, and everywhere else he went for that matter................but you'll struggle to find one of his playlists (from anywhere) unless someone else wrote it down and posted it up for everyone to see, which would be bad form without permission. There's been some interesting points around why people do/don't post playlists. A lot seem to be against. I was surprised to see the 'protective' piece still exists after all these years. Contradicts all the talk about sharing the faith, or spreading the faith . To be quite honest, i've seen some amazing playlists where id love to go out and buy the lot because the records are fantastic, but the content of those playlists is often either out of my price range or simply not available, even if i had connections. At the opposite end of the scale, If it's a cheapie you've played that gets re-activated after people have seen it on playlists and want to buy it, you might actually make money to fund other records (especially if you have a few copies). From that point of view, im not sure i quite buy into the whole "i'm not showing you mine cos you'll only go out and nick it". You shared it on the night with a hunred people, so why be protective about sharing it on t'internet?
  16. Bonus!!! Happy to swerve the Jay Pee issue then. Although to be honest had I won it at £100 and then found the above information out, I wouldn't have been too disappointed as i would have made do whilst a kemp issue came along, and probably made my money back on jay pee copy. Much obliged gents Azza
  17. I do it occasionally for That Driving Beat, usually when a few people ask. It's up to dj's if they wanna post though, no pressure. And it is just occasionally, not every time. I can see the pro's and cons, and agree with all that's been said so far. I've started to do a 'record countdown' on our Facebook events recently which are current spins of the residents and give a flavour of music policy at the event for those not in the know or contemplating coming for the first time
  18. Long time dead and all that
  19. Can someone please put me out of my misery here (or make it worse depending on the outcome)...... Been after this for a couple of years. Proving difficult to source and the last time it came up at an affordable price for me I didnt have the reddies :-( CINDY & THE PLAYMATES - DON'T STOP THIS TRAIN. Low and behold two pop up in eBay at the same time, selling in the last few days. Both in VG, with sound clips and from reputable eBay sellers. One playing better than the other. I always thought that this only came out on Kemp, yet the ebay listings were on different labels. one was on Kemp the other on Jay Pee. I was aware of their common release on jay pee (now school is through, or whatever) but didn't know about DSTT. Not knowing the release I put a tentative bid of £100 ish in on the Jay Pee version knowing that if I didn't win I could go for the Kemp one which finished two days later. I got outbid by $2 on jay pee copy! Ended up not bidding on the kemp one as after playing it a few times it was just too noisy. That went for £147! SO....... Question is, did I dodge a bullet and not end up with an expensive second issue by being outbid on the Jay Pee issue? OR Did I miss out on a very rare item for peanuts because the jay pee copy is first release and never turns up?? Azza
  20. Sexxy, literally........
  21. Mel & Tim has dropped in price a bit recently, but £60 is about right if it's in Ex condition
