  1. Email thecauldron@witchsbrew.co.uk for list Cheers Jason S
  2. I wrote that...a long time ago, mind. Fuckin' hell, there's a blast from the past! Thought that one might have been eroded by time by now
  3. ...that's cos' they are both Curtis Mayfield productions. Well, Curtis at least wrote the New World cut. See what you mean about the similarities...in 'tune' at least. I'd have said each where miles apart in actual feel though...maybe just a tempo thing...is Patti Jo that up-tempo? Take a look at that pitch control, mate One thing I'd think we'd agree on : neither are Northern Soul records
  4. There were tons of these around at one point a few years back, peaking at around the £75 mark. Best bet is to try Garry Cape, he might still have one lurking somewhere.
  5. The Helpp issue's on ebay now, so I guess you could wait around 'til it closes and then have a look at the value...one way I suppose. Infact, all three issues are/have been on the bay in the last few days. First the Gar-Pax, then the SS7 and Helpp. Stop press. The Helpp issue closed a few days back at $227. So technically, there's your valuation on that.
  6. Bobby's fine thanks mate...not a bad touch at £8 for a £250 record... :-)))) I jest, of course... You hit the nail on the head there, though. Records are the price someone's asking and someone's willing to pay for them. Obvious, but it can explain the huge gulfs in valuations. I guess your £500-£600 Patterson Twin bloke had it in his collection and figured he'd not get again, hence asking twice the asking price to help him overcome the hurt... :-)
  7. No he's (I'm) not. I always thought Daybreak was on the one hand a £100er and on the other ebay hand up to a $800er...f*** me, I think I wrote that earlier as well ;-)) It's like the Charles Johnson/King Tutt et al thing....100's of copies and now 100's of pounds... Mind you, I thought the Crow was a £250er until some plonker went and paid over £600 for a VG+ copy :-))))) Who on earth would go to the Trouble of forking out that much on it....;-)
  8. Patterson Twins is about £300 tops, isn't it? Daybreak's a weid one as on the one hand it's a £100er...and on the ebay hand it can be anything up to $800! And I'll pay less than JT for the Newarkers, if anyone's got one, cos' it ain't worth £400.... ;-)

    Price help

Goes for about £80 these days
  10. Millie Jackson - 'House For Sale', I'd have thought (?)
  11. I'd wager you meant SK Radicals? The unreleased version of this cut is a monster. Not 'house' in the slightest but a killer jazz-dancer with an awesome 'live' feel...f**king great track, but thanks to record industry lack of vision, probably won't come out. In termsof 'house' stuff....gave Underground Network - Love Is The Answer a spin the other day...that Live Band Mix still holds it's own...sounds like it could have been a MAW production. And dug out Global Communication - The Groove (original vocal mix) and that sounds better now than it did 5 (?) years ago. I believe Crazy Beat had one for sale last week at £6..worth it.
  12. Like this fucker, you mean, Billy? https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=4033556329 My eyesight may be failing me, but f***, even I can see that A. It's not the original and B. The seller has made no mention of this slightly potent fact. Ok, so the seller should do their research, but sorry, what a wanker!
  13. Yeah, but he's a nob and likes out of tune, floor clearing, crunchy guitary piffle. :-))) Interesting review...let's de-code that: fragile harmonies - they can't sing. weird drumming patterns - he can't keep a beat. meandering bassline - he's not listening to the same track...infact, he's in another room. sparse production - skinflints couldn't run to spending a couple more bob on getting a studio, hence the kitchen being used etc. etc... all in all..."the work of genius" ...of course! Anyways, I'm sure it'll flog with no bother...just that when you read descriptions like that, you wonder what tune's being discussed... ...stick it on the bay mate...
  14. Not a modern soul dancer in the slightest, more a mid tempo, gritty funky soul thing...hard to categorise...'pained' would be one description JBrew www.witchsbrew.co.uk
  15. 'Trying to Make It Up To You' does it all over 'Katrina' (IMO)....and can be found on said LP

  17. Skip Jackson/Shantons - I'm On To You Girl (Dot-Mar) EX (lite surface marks DNAP) £150 Reluctant sale of this gem...surely needs playing out. Price may be a 'tad' high...tricky to find for sale these days though...and I'd hate to see it go. Arthur Freeman - Played Out Play Girl (Excello) M- £25 Considerably cheaper than the first issue Falcons - (I'm A Fool) I Must Love You (Big Wheel) M- £40 Still sounds like the great swaggering 'safari-horns 'n all' goodie even after a few plays...very near mint as well. Jackie Wilson - Because Of You (Brunswick) EX- £75 A libreal smattering of lite surface marks don't interfere with the goodness in the grooves. Y'all know this one. Flip is Go Away...it's the original issue of course. Marcelle Joseph - Long Distance Love Affair (DSR) M- £70 Killer off-the-wall modern with an intro dreamt up by someone who must have just bought a new sound effects toy. used to be dead cheap, getting picked up on again now. R. Tenard - You Made Me Cry (Fa-Bo-lus) M- £75 You'll either love it or hate it...almost a cross between Northern and R&B with dollops of 'innocence' about it. Personally I love it but it's being offered to make way for something else so it's up for grabs. Voice Masters - Never Gonna Leave You (Bamboo w/l demo) M- £70 The bollocks IMO - shoudl sit comfotably next to your Frederick Hymes type sounds. No cue burn or anything else nasty about this...was sitting in a collection virtually unplayed for 15 odd years. Brewster Crew - I'm One Who Know (Lifeline) M- £80 Championed a while back and then slipped away...the record that preceeds The Innersection like a hand preceeds a glove. Sort of. Beloyd - Get Into Your Life (20th Century : promo) M- £75 Perennial modern fave in near flawless condition. Once you've runined one side, flip it over and start on the other. Any enquiries to thecauldron@witchsbrew.co.uk Cheers Jason S
  18. Jordi The originals don't have the engineer's name (Fred 'somebody' I think) under the artist's name on the label. The copies on gemm are (I believe) represses from some time last year courtesy of Elijah Cole, the owner of Rock-Way. I received (several) emails last year from firstly Felicia and then Elijah which started almost cryptically and then descended into ultra weirdness. The net result was that they established amongst themselves that having seen a copy of the original on a Dutch website (ironically from a seller that most likely didn't have the f**king thing) that someone was making cash they probably felt was due to them. So, this weird and intriguing story evolved about how all the copies that existed prior to their repress of last year were boots instigated sometime in the mid 70's by....EMI! Cole went on to insist that the originals (the ones he'd repressed - he admitted to repressing them in a thread on the now defunct deep funk board -) were the 'represses' (confused?) and that to authenticate their 'originality' he had specially singed them for 'all the fans of Mixed Emotions' out there. Cue moping of brow, a bow taken and then a hasty exit stage-right. By the sounds of it, he'd also contacted several UK dealers to try out his story on them. The exchange between the two of us lasted about nine emails and then he vanished....and then the signed copies-with-engineer's-name appeared. I tried to convince him that it was never a massive track and that maybe he should just issue the record and sell them at $10...that way he'd sell loads (especially as it seems to have - ironically - taken off) He wasn't listening. My scanner's up the tubes at the moment or else I'd display the original here. Your best bet is to email the dudes on gemm and ask them when the copies they have were pressed...and then tell them to stuff their $119 and offer them $10. JBrew
