  1. Only debatable because Brew doesn't have one and wants one.

Wrighty had one a year ago and been looking for copies ever since with no luck, do the math.

I've been playing it covered up which has kept a few people off it, but looks like word is out on it now.

Look for $500 minmum if I were you.

James, you're sounding like a twonk again. Yes I want it, no I don't believe it's 'worth' anything like the $700+ or the $500+, to me or I'd have won the copy your mate just picked up off ebay. What's debatable is the price...as shown it's gone for $500+ and $700+ (actually seems to be dropping in price  ) so maybe it's peaked already  . If you want to spend $700+ on it fair do's...it's just a crazy disco record after all. A nice crazy disco record at that. If I were you I'd cash it in and take my earlier advice and get that nice Johnny Rodgers off Adam

  2. Hi

Would anyone have an idea of the value of these 2 babies?

Symbol 8 'Thought You Wanted to Dance' Shock Promo

Phillip Wright 'Keep Her Happy' Dash

Had a good look about and can't seem to dig up much info on these.

    Thanks!

    Symbol 8 (demo) - £5

    Phillip Wright - debatable

  3. I haven't heard that, been wondering what there other stuff was like, I have 'I Thought You Wanted to Dance' on shock, which is a funky disco thing but its a cracker.

All but one of the Symbol 8 records on Shock (think there are 3 in total) are easy apart from - it would seem - the issue copies of 'I Thought You Wanted To Dance' which has by far (imo  ) the better side in the form of 'Call Me' on the flip. You see the others everywhere - including the double sided '...Wanted To Dance' but the issue with 'Call Me' seems trickier. 'I Thought You...' also (first?) came out on Midtown...part one and two I think (?)

  4. On reflection Ellipsis is not disco-ey enought to warrrant such an epithet, agree that it's a brilliant record. How about Bileo? that's almost definitely disco, with it's 'climbing' bassline.

I suppose Rideout and Wes Black could also be classed as an attempt at 'disco', but again, late 70's with a 4/4 beat doesn't necessarily equal 'disco'...some people would reckon so but next to the ones I mentioned earlier I know which have more in common with disco.

  5. Must be tons of them....

    Teddy P - More I Get

Dells - All About The Paper

Best Friend Around - So Good To Know

GQ - Make My Dreams Reality

Norman Connors - Once I've Been There..................

.................and on and on (the beat goes on and on.... )

    Ellipsis "People" Briarmeade.

Wouldn't class that as even remotely disco personally. It's a magnicifent record but no way disco.

  6. Great, thanks a lot, that just about completes my graft. I could still do with seeing a scan of it or just list the writers, producers and publisher etc would do.

    Can help with that...

  7. The Hamilton Movement ones were done by Expansion Records I think so they are likely to be legit.

If it's the one on Soul Beat then according to the sales blurb on a UK website its a "7" Single, SR25001 ~ Limited editon (Goldsoul) RE-ISSUE on Soul Beat label ". The Soul Mafia one is definately an Austrian boot if discussion over at www.fryer-mantis.co.uk some time ago is anything to go by.

Just got an email from Expansion saying they had nowt to do with it.

  8. This has probably been discussed at severe length before so apologies in advance but...

Piling thru the 9000 45s on ebay the % of repro lookalikes ( Jimmy Horne Just Cant DADE to name one ) Are these legit re-issues with money going to artist / songwriters etc? Or for example a 45 like Hamilton Movement on repro ... boots or legal re-issues.

    Cheers

    Rich

As far as I know (having been told by a guy close to the Hamilton Movt guys some time ago) neither 'reissues' of the Hamilton Movement were actually agreed by the guy who owns the music...or anyone connected with them. So that'd make them boots.

  9. This Fabulous Playmates record can be ordered now on CD so that it can be heard on the street as well as in the clubs. Order from The Simmons Music Company.

With all due respect Mr Simmons, $25 seems a bit expensive for a two track CD. The advert says 'Collector's album' but only two tracks are listed. Is this a full album you're selling or a two track CD?

  10. You said it :(

It's had a few plays up't North, and as a result has gone to fifty English pounds on one dealers website. :(

    Christ!

....always been about a £20 top-er. That said Craig Moerer's got a few at $30. Remember Snowboy bigging this in his top ten in Big Daddy somewhere in the dim and distant past, which inspired a temporary rush maybe 5 years back. Bit 'funky' that one :P:P:thumbsup:wink.gif

  11. Anyone know what's happened to the Oslo soul club web site? I've tried my own link and tried google but can't get the site to load up.

The guys who run it are on here Wally, one of them should be able to answer that one.

  12. I can't understand how it sounds 'odd' at all, in any way, but then again I'm into funk...not that this is in any way a funk record, you understand ranting_1.gif Just a f**king monsterous soul record that sounds like the guy was chopping down a forest while singing - nay, shouting - his way through it.
