  1. Larom Baker (the man himself) apparently turned up in New York around 18+ months back, just before the ebay copies - around $1200 if I remember right - showed up. Don't know whether there was any connection, but it was a bit coincidental...and I'm sure the sellers were out of NY. The price on the Dolly Gilmore is staggering. I nearly put mine up for £300 a while back, which I thought was the right price...didn't in the end and glad for it now...mainly cos it's a great two-fer, even if the funk side's better. ...and if Baby Huey's 'Drifting' can go for over $450 anything's possible.

  2. 12 is longer but 7 came out first, right?! Because of his face on the label...

A type of your sound anyway!

The 12" is just over 30 seconds longer but it's also a slightly different mix...the beat is more 4/4 than the 7"...it's louder as well. And it says 1980 on the 7" and 1981 on the 12". What's the other Hot Licks - or it may have been Rota - release by Len Rideout like? I remember seeing it on ebay a while back.

Price-wise, a year ago two copies of the 7" fetched $268 and $265 respectively...not bad for a Soul Bowl £10er  ...and a 12" went for $178 back in March last year.

  3. Didn't know that the value was growing so much in your country. Still love both faces of the 45, already parted with two copies though. :P

Yes Tad, and one of those two is now in another's hands (Funky Chappie on here, actually  ) after I moved my copy on a while back... :D

Classic line from a guy who knows how to show a lady a good time "...I made love on the streets, on the bus, in the subway..." ...what a charmer!:yes:

  4. I've never seen an original of James Bynum

what a great 70's record this is!

Mate if nobody buys it, I'll buy it off you

I've had two of them and if I didn't have it already I'd buy it again...I agree, the f**king nuts, that record

  5. These are most properbly done on the hard thick vinyl with as they say label scan stuck on, I can knock up 5 of these tomorrow and sell them for £17.50 each, no one would press up on proper vinyl 5 copies just not worth it as they would now be selling them at a loss, as the plates would cost more than the current price to set up.

Yeah, I'd say it must be a Vinyl Carvers job, except from the photos you'd think they were proper reissue jobs, not 'everlasting dubplates'. I bet the winners don't get what they think they're getting if going by the pictures. :(

  6. I've recorded the show and posted it up here as an MP3. Had to take the bit rate thing down to keep the files size reasonable (30mb) but it still sounds ok. Don't know if it can be archived off the MP3 by the mods...be worthwhile for future reference maybe? Anyway, it's there if you want it but be quick, I think there's limited downloads or a time-limit with the hosting of the files.

Ooh, there are a few jumps in it where the connection died for a while but mostly it's smooth...bit like the swearing-less presenting ph34r.gif

  7. A run of the mill vocal perfomance that sounds like the kind of strained, forced and affected souless drivel you'd get from a failed Pop Idol or the X-Factor audition - totally lacking any conviction and as Pete says, absolutely pointless. Sorry, I just don't believe he is 'too proud to beg', don't believe a word he sings infact, and that's what matters. The backing is syrupy, over produced and slicked to the point of being as close to a corporate friendly function band performance as you'd like. Dreadful and a bit offensive in truth when you put it next to the real thing. But you asked for opinions so expect it to be ripped up as well as praised. But thanks for sharing, all the same.

  8. I`m after buying this 45 but have`nt had a lot of luck so far.as any one got this for sale and how much is it .thanks ....neil.

I got one recently for $20...seems tricky to track down though. Nice record, especially at end where the girl comes in and slags him off and then he answers 'But baby, I LOVE YOU' Boom. Stop. Thank you. Nice ending that. :shades:

  9. Mr Brew, are you not getting mixed up with Never-the-less by Lee Andrews on crimson.

To the best of my knowledge this was until the mid 70's an un released cut discovered by John Anderson @ soul bowl KL who released it via a lable he co-owned at the time Lost Nite?

Possibly, but I asked if it came out on Crimson and was told...

"...Along with his much under-rated 'Nevertheless' "

...so I took that to mean it was on the flip of Nevertheless...on Crimson. ohmy.gif

  10. Sebastian'

Definitely one of his trickier 45s to find. Have been selling for £15-£25 lately on eBay. Available on both styrene and vinyl, vinyl copies should be more desirable. Fantastic two-part tune!

I always thought this 45 was at least a ton plus cos of the funk links.....? :)

Couldn't find anything via popsike with recent auction results, is it really so cheap?

You can mix it into "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell and then back out again if you are really clever. Was Tighten Up his inspiration on this one?

Nah, never a ton...think the most I've ever seen it at was around £50, but as Sebastian says around £25, maybe £35 tops is right. Not a rare record by any stretch: they do come up frequently.

  11. Anyone know the price of Carlos Malcolm - Bustin' outta the ghetto on 7" please? TIA

£10 ish...maybe £15 tops. Not a rare record at all and not all that indemand. I think Craig Moerer does it for about $50 but it's not really the kind of sound that pulls that kind of figure all that often, if at all. The LP's harder, goes for more and got reissued but from memory don't think it was that special either. Sorry if that's not what you hoped to hear.

  12. OK GUYS HAVING BEEN AROUND THIRTY YEARS OR SO I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS RECORD BEING BOOTED IN THIS COUNTRY OR BY ANYONE IN THE STATES SO IF ANYONE KNOWS DIFFERENT CAN YOU LET US KNOW THE RECORD IN QUESTION BEING

DAYBREAK " I NEED LOVE " KNOW IT WAS DONE ON GOLDMINE 7'S BUT ANYONE SEEN A US BOOT ALSO CURRENT VALUE NEEDED CHEERS GUY'S MY KNOWLEDGE IS VAST BUT ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE

Don't know if it's a 'boot' as such but it has been reissued recently on a kind of lookalike P&P issue pressing...looks like this... daybreak~~~_everythin_101b.jpg

...except that's the flip, of course.
