  1. can anyone tell me the value of this record before i buy it?.....HELENE SMITH - YOU GOT TO BE A MAN - PHIL LA SOUL W/D - MINT-.....cheers...dob

    £75 tops - used to make more - probably does make more on a good day but that's probably top-end nowdays. Originally came out on Deep City which is harder

  2. Willie & Babs

    In truth I was surprised he wanted us to list that one as it's not really that rare - or that good (imo) :thumbsup:

    Dunno the value - I know at one stage they were being touted at £75 but I reckon the bubble burst on it a bit

  3. Soul Experience is a nice group two sider. :thumbsup:

    Had a few enquiries on these. I don't know what he's after - I'm just posting them up for him - so it's basically a case of offering what they're worth to you and I'll relay the info to him.

  4. yeah a few have definately surfaced

    i probably at a push could have got them at the start of last year off larry ackles but didnt think the 45 would warrant a bulk purchase....i could be wrong, time will tell i guess

    Pretty sure the same people who had these also had quantity on the Hard Cover on Shanty Town. The CBM's were $80 I think and the Hard Covers $25

  5. I'm putting these up for a mate who's not a member and doesn't have the time to do this himself. He's after offers on these...if you need anything PM me and I'll relay the info to him. Thanks

  6. The f*cker is i've known this record for well over 10 years and missed every copy i've ever seen for sale. Think it was about 20 quid the first time.......sod paying the best part of a grand for it now.

    Girf

    Your mate Mr Dennis sold me my copy for £50, I thanked him for sending it and I might even have bought him a drink when I saw him at the Plinston Modern do that time. Sh*tting myself for three days waiting for it to arrive, though. :thumbsup: Think he was getting pretty heavily leaned on at the time but stuck to his word. What a nice man! :thumbsup:

  8. Some nice enough tunes but it's a fairly similar looking playlist to a lot you see listed up on here & in my oppinion we need more djs with a bit of imagination rather than even more djs playing the same old stuff.

    Simon

    In defence of Steve (who is, if I may say so, a damn good DJ) there's (obviously) a balance that you need to strike between playing the familiar in order to generate initial action and get folk off their seats and playing the 'lesser known' in order to make the lesser know become tomorrow's familiar, which then become the tunes that get folk off their seats. Of course the problem is that you can't always judge what an individual may deem 'familiar'. One man's (or woman's) familiar is another's 'obscure'. It's all well and good theorising on paper (or in cyberspace) about what should or shouldn't be played but playing a set in order to have people applauding your 'forward thinking' selection on a message board whilst the same set (good as it may be) killed the atmosphere at the business end of things (the do in question) surely isn't the sign of a good DJ. In an ideal world people (some people) into 60's soul music would be into the music enough to be into 60's (and 70's) soul music that they may not have heard yet, not just a certain amount of 60's soul songs. That's where (we) as punters also need a bit of imagination.

  9. all of those nice 45's and im my humble but not respected opinion

    in order of music and quality not price id go like this

    1= curtis "move one up"

    2=impressions "love me"

    3=new world"were gonna make it"

    no, I think what you mean is 'in order of personal preference'...

    If you can quantify 'music and quality' you've got debate on your hands, otherwise you're stating a preference...which in a way is all anyone can really do.

  10. We're Gonna Make It, Move On Up, Love Me - mayfield medley - various

    13856 refosoul

    You could easily lump the Impressions - Love Me, Curtis - Move On Up and New World together and pontificate on your personal favourite all day: they've all got strong elements of each other and an obvious writing/performing connection. Personally I love all three though for me there's something that bit extra special in the New World tune - the 'bump' in the rhythm, the percussion running through it, the tempo, the slightly dark feel which differentiates it from Move On Up. Personally I couldn't give a monkey's if someone likes it or not (unless it's a dancefloor, where, whenever I've played it at least, it does the business) and I was more than happy to shell out £50 for it - it's not like it's on every other sales list is it? Compared to styrene demo copies of Mayfield that have sold for that price it doesn't look like a bad deal. That first recent ebay copy was always going to draw out further copies - maybe it'll herald a flood of them and a price crash. Remains to be seen. Anyway, attached should be all three of the above - not bad that Mayfield geezer, eh, nod 'arf! ;-)

  11. is this to your liking J or do we disagree again ? :thumbsup:

    Depends on if it's to your liking whether we disagree :lol: - it's alright, personally never really been mad about it that much to be honest. This is one that the infamous (and invisible) Kevin Laverty in Canada seemed to have endless copies of about 3 years back. He just kept on having another last copy, and another, and another......

  12. It sold for £26 the other night on eBay, but it'll most likely be down to its usual £10-£15 soon.

    Possibly or possibly not. If it's taking off it won't be long before supply outstrips demand - looks like it has already if the number of people posting wants for it is anything to go by. That £28 copy that went to Norway could either herald the start of a landslide of copies or just the opposite - bit like the New World :thumbup: . Time will tell. Great track all the same :lol:

  13. £400 sounds a bit steep but if the Fynil Vynil is selling for more.. Got mine from Rod Shard aka modernsoulsucks on soul source, it was £30 or 40. I think they came from Dave Withers, he was listing them at the same time but I missed out there.

    I recall Dave listing the 12's for a while and I recall I kept missing them too :thumbsup: $50 I think they were.
