Yep, on Spanish I think.

Not to put dampner on things but the idea of running a record shop for most is (I'd wager) a bit of a fantasy that you can make a living sitting around listening to music all day. If you're running it right you won't have all that much time during the day to enjoy listening to music cos you'll be too busy with the day to day, full-on job of running a business to indulge in (perhaps) the reason why you wanted to run a record shop: out of a love of the music (and maybe the idea of listening to music all day). If you can combine a hobby and treat it as a business then you're doing well. Not only have you got the financial side to keep in order but actually managing large stock levels is a full time job. Seriously, having worked for Soul Brother for 7 years + you see how shrunken the UK market is for soul stores - the internet has undoubtedly played a huge part in this, but also people's listening habits have changed. If you think there's a big enough walk-in market in the area you're looking at setting up in then maybe it'll work but you also have to pitch your stock to accomodate a range of soul styles that reflect not only your taste (and possibly not your taste) but those of potential customers. So that'll include smooth jazz and urban, then I wouldn't envy anyone setting up a specialist bricks 'n Mortar store in this day and age, and even trying to compete on the net as a newcomer has to be daunting, particularly in terms of new product. If you've got a huge and endless supply of rare, collectable and in-demand titles at competitive prices then yeah, maybe a net shop is the thing, but when Tesco or asda can stock a soul comp at 30% less than an indie store, be paid for racking space and have a larger returns privellige you know it's tough! Ebay and Gemm (especially) etc have made everyone a potential record dealer, also. Not sure how you'd tie in food and records...seems like you'd need to employ double the staff and logistically it's a bit of a leap of the imagination to figure out how the two would combine.
Good luck though

Johnny Pate/Four Tops
Are You Man Enough
You Can't Even Walk In The Park
Shaft In Africa
3 killers on the same LP - 'can't be bad'
-
Ps - Does 'The Continental Show Stoppers' - I'm Not Too Young - White Demo qualify as a 'Hot Box' record???? going in box two whatever and thats pretty darn hot anyway....lol
Nice version though I rate the Jackey Beavers over all attempts at that - maybe pitched down a notch though
-

Common Sense - I really love you BC
pls pm me if anyone has a spare interested in both 45 and 33

I NEEEEEED this record if anyone has a copy for me
Think Mr Simons has it - sure if ask him in your own special way he'll play it at the Brit on the 13th April.
-
On Hiltak you say ?
Err, no Track isn't it...was thinking of 'Much Too Much'. Only have the 'Much Too Much' 7" which I prefer.
-
Well, judging by the feedback it looks like it was (by and large) too good to be true

Girl Across the Street - Moses Smith.
Up to you to decide exactly where she is

This must be the same guy as "Fantasy" on the same lable anyone know "We Are The People" or the flip "I But, Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda" and are they any good?
Not sure on the Metro-Art releases but I'm sure Robinson was part of Homebrew who did the okish 'Once I had A Friend'/'Disco Teaser' M (Big 'M' in Music) Records. Recall finding a link between the two, once. Carolinas labels aren't they? (M and Metro-Art)? Doesn't help much but adds a bit of speculative trivia
-
How anyone can play the Georgie Fame stab at it over this version beggers belief!
Panic? A love of kitsch? The need for 4/4 on the floor?
Sending that stuff I promised you tomorrow Adam - see you at the next Brit

Ians got records like Chain Reaction too , now thats Super Funky soul and hard to find .any for sale
Might be hard pressed to find one for sale now (famous last words ) Think Wrighty was the first on the small batch that turned up. Luckily (for me ) I got in there second...the remaining copies seemed to be subject to a price rise of random (and substantial) proportions with the last copy the guy sold going at around a grand (English) Cracking two-sider.

Outstanding tune Neil.............anyone have a current price for this pse & availability (need one.anyone ???).
Big thanks to everyone posting on the thread, some great tunes, you could do an awesome set from some of the tunes posted. Please keep em coming, real interesting stuff & as already observed earlier a lot of this stuff sounds sooooo fresh now.
What about Deliah Moore on Middle earth, fantastic fogotten Mecca tune ( need one of these too ). Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but can anyone post a sound file, this beaut definitely has loads of spins left in it.
Im sure that there are other SS members who have an opinion of the relevance of these tunes today & also there own favourites, so lets hear them guy's n gal's.
Would you enjoy a set of this kinda of up tempo 7ts/8ts in the main room at a Nighter ????..............I think I would TBH..........not all night but either mixed in or one or two DJ's that play this kinda thing thru out the night would be good.
Russ
Ronnie Stokes. Think the recent copy on Manship's went comparatively 'cheaply' - about £125 (?) - has been known to go for twice that
I was toying with selling mine recently as I did a re-edit to 'fix' the dodgy intro - and fit it on a 7" . Memories of Deep Funk for me in this one - we were pretty spoilt in the last hour with stuff of this ilk in those days
Our lad Peter plays that Deliah Moore sometimes - magnificent record that one
-
Quality record, nearly played it at the weekend until I realised it was time to let Don have a go £15 all in seems more reasonable and realistic
-
Think it Keb's old copy that now resides in the collection of my mate from Cambs.
-
It's - to coin a phrase - a 'funk classic' in, erm, funk circles...be nice to hear a bit of funk when I eventually get to the Welly again Not much to choose between them but I prefer this to Frank Williams' try at it. Both versions also came out on Deep City as well as Phil la Soul. Oops, just seen an earlier post with the same info

The Sought After Soul 4cd boxset is a killer - not sure if it's still around, though. Rare Soul Review is more gettable and Soul Spectrum 1 and 2 from BBE are consistently brilliant, mainly 70's modern.
-
Being lazy at the moment so linked to the one on soulclub instead of MP3ing it direct.

Your support is much appreciated mate. Introduce yourself next time you're up at Whitley and there'll be a drink or two heading your way

It is 3 cds 110 mins with 60/70/80's Soul music. Never heard any of the tunes before but will def be listening to them again. Sure some of it was from over the states.
It was made by DJ's playing tracks they liked.
Glad you enjoyed them Kev. Now if you'd have said that they had 60's/70's and 80's soul music interspersed with the near incoherent babblings of four ham radio sounding wannabe's I'd have known immediately that they were our club CDs. Not sure if you got track listings with them but here's what's on them
