  1. "You're Gonna Make Me Cry" on the same label is (i think) considered the most desirable one by them, J. I like 'Chicano Power' even if it does sound like they recorded it off someone playing it on the radio and then pressed it up. Lo-fi ain't the word.

  2. Is it just me? But I don't understand the whole "carver" thing. If you don't have the original and just want to listen to the tune then what's wrong with having it on tape / CD/ mp3 etc etc?

In fact what's wrong with playing MP3's at do's? Collecting I understand and have done a little bit of collecting myself. but in a club the punters just want to hera the sounds mostly. If this attituide were adopted then more proficient DJ's (ie people who know how to DJ properly and perhaps do it professionally) would rise to the top thereby giving a more entertaining night to the paying punter. Rather than (nowadays) people who can afford to buy the latest pseudo inflated "must have" rarity.

    Just my opinion.

Carver's are good for putting your edits onto - custom 45's of records that once had terrible guitar solo's destroying otherwise perfect records thumbsup.gif

btw in some respects I agree with the MP3 thing too, but i'm not about to get the can opener out on that one

  3. I'm gunna start using a pair of those new Apple iPod Touch, can get 1000s of records on each one of those. Just plug em into the mixer and off you go... biggrin.gif

Yeah, but with a hotbox collection of 87 records you won't need something that can fit 1000s of tunes onto it - just plug your mobile in and use that - if you've got an iPhone you can probably play x-box or something at the same time. You'll be in heaven and won't notice your entire set being recorded ready for a carvin'.

  4. This ended up a lot higher than we thought jason....

Yeah, cos if you look at it there were about 6 fools...I mean, people, who were willing to go over $300. Actually there were only two - and the second highest (who wanted to pay about, erm, £30 and then £75...) obviously called out the highest bidders 'buffer' when he realised top bidder was touching himself for it...stinger! :P Now, where's that smug smilie  (that'll do)

  5. Think the 45' is around the £50-&75 mark (different take though), can't imagine the LP is much, i have them all and didn't pay too much for them, take a look round sure you'll capture one of them at a reasonable price.

The Independent's version didn't see a 7" issue, did it?

    Would be nice

  6. Must admit I never considered James Fountain to be anything even remotely close to funk! Reminds me more of an Edison Lighthouse tune than funk. Well, the guitar riff does. The Black Truth Band - Butter Nut - now that's funk and if an old article by Pete Smith (I think) is anything to go by it was an Ian Levine spin at some point in the 70's (though when I asked Ian about this he denied it and said Funk was the devil's music, or something like that. Which doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing  )

  7. Nice tune! What's with the George Smallwoods though - seem to be a lot of 'Touching Is My Thing(s)' around at the moment (as well as the blue label ones) No doubt he's been found which sort of makes this statement a bit puzzling "the entire label stock was trashed due to unsavoury reasons. The Smallwood label will never show up."
