  1. Sunday morning, sat here listening to solar radio,

some guy called plum is spinning a few records (hes not bad either) :P and im jotting down one or two to find for myself.......

    the problem is..........

my wants list grows at a far greater rate than my collection !!!!!!!!!

id like to think im buying regularly

so in say ten years time i will be in negative soul equity

is there anyone out there whos actually sat back after crossing the last one of the wants list and said to themselves -

"WELL THATS THE COLLECTION COMPLETE, NOTHING ELSE OUT THERE THAT I WANT"

    shep

Yeah but Marky boy, if you keep flogging your collection every three weeks it's no wonder your wants list is so long laugh.gif

  2. Have a copy in excellent nick. Light paper scuffs as you'd expect on a 30+year old album I guess. Sleeve grades VG. (bit more worn than this copy) Can't do photos at present seeing as Vista has rendered my camera obsolete :)

  3. i'll go with a couple of funkier tunes (of course) :D ....

leroy clofer 'mr. big man' (rosemont) picked up one myself cheap on ebay early last year, a small quantity then turned up but they were literally snapped up in a few hours, mostly by funk collectors but i still think this has potential to appeal to the soul crowd, and according to adam leaver it went down a storm in the soul or nothing room on NYE :P

great, just sold this...bet it goes off now :P:lol:

  4. Excuse my ignorance here,

but why do some records hiss at the start ?

    how does it happen?

    can it be removed ?

i think the terminology is cue burn ?

    thanks, shep :D

Repeated moving of (usually bad) stylus back and forth at the start of a record to find where the music comes in, thus aiding blending of music and avoiding long, silent gaps between records. Usually inflicted on styrene records which are prone to 'cue-burn' though it can happen to vinyl too if the record has been cued repeatedly over a long period of time, usually again with bad needles.

There probably is no cure and in some cases the entire record plays with a hiss as the dj has cut the burn further and further into the record to find the cue point, to the point where the only place that doesn't hiss is the run out.

Kinda why your heart sinks when you open a package and a styrene record is sitting there looking back at you.

  5. $885 for the other... :( The break is horrible; "coming out to getcha cause I need your love..." No thanks, brrr.

Yeah, that's the bit where the extra $800 becomes a bit much - decent enough track otherwise, it's just one of those kind of "oh no, not a rock guitar solo" moments (or thereabouts) when that 'break' comes in....quite easy to edit it out, though, in this case - got one somewhere

  6. ...when two people decided they HAD to have it, I guess. There's a $450+ dollar difference between what everyone else thought they ought to pay and what the two highest had on it. Classic 'buffer getting called out' moment, right there. Ouch! Can't understand the fuss tbh, the other one's better - and considerably cheaper.

  7. You can/could buy the record from JD Hall himself on ebay for $25. Strangely he keeps on finding 'another one'. There's something about the '2nd pressing' copies that doesn't seem right in terms of the record's vintage, but Mr Hall says they are from the 80's so we must believe him
