  6. Five for today - a fistful of rock solid 45s. PM or email soulstacks@gmail.com Richard Brown - Sweet And Kind/Don't Listen To The Grapevine (Steeltown) M- £35 Fantastic record and maybe a little overlooked but this oozes soul! https://www.soulstacks.com/clips4/01-27801.mp3 John Roberts - I'll Forget You/Be My Baby (Duke) *Strong VG++/VG+* £50 Uptempo class from Texas…take a listen. https://www.soulstacks.com/clips4/01-28201.mp3 Tommy Bush - Come On Now/Right Kind of Love (Boxer) M- £25 Punchy early soul screamer stuff. Nice looking label. Obscure and tricky to find https://www.soulstacks.com/clips4/01-30101.mp3 Freddie Watson - The Unlucky Seven/It's All Over Now (Eloys) M- £20 *one copy left - don't overlook this...take 2 1/2 mins to give it a spin. Strong funky x-overy stuff. Really good funky soul effort that probably gets overlooked but give it a spin: listening again to this having forgotten what it sounded like I looked over at the decks and thought 'ooh, this is a good tough sounding funky soul tune, what is it, again…? Oh, this! Nice!" https://www.soulstacks.com/clips4/01-32801.mp3 Fabulous Pawns - One More Heartache/Monkey Time (IGL) M- £25 Good garage version of the Smokey tune backed with a try at Major Lance's 'Monkey Time'. Decent record. https://www.soulstacks.com/clips4/01-33101.mp3
  7. https://www.soulstacks.com/shop/rene-geyer/ got them here fella - nice to get the other version on the flip

Hear Wildflower - Wind It Up, Turn It Loose/Sugar Baby (Dash) E- £30 The fourth and final Wildflower offering on Dash by Wildflower. Two decent sides. Their best. Hear I.N.D - Just You Be You/I'm Not Ready (Momisey) M- £25 I.N.D put out an album in 1981 on Erect Records which included 'Just You Be You' but not the lilting flip side. Ready for a re-discovery this one. Hear Curtis Wiggins - Stand Up When I Talk To You/Can't Buy Love With Money (Palm) EX £40 Men's rights funk cut that pretty much tells her how it is, how it's gonna be and how it should be. Hear Modern/70s+++++++ Barbara Stant - My Mind Holds Onto Yesterday/He's Still Your Man (Shiptown) EX £225 100% original killer from Ms Stant. My fave by her. Hear Gail Miles - Got To Find Him/Got To Find Him (Reprise) (Exit 6) VG+ £25 Obscure Texas female funky soul offering wll worth a look. Hear Courtial with Errol Knowles - Losing You/Don't You Think It's Time (Pipeline) M- £175 Classic old school Deep Funk spin that sounds so good today. Revival time. VG+ copy sold last year for $308 - check it out here Hear Palmer James - Love Me Part 1/Love Me Part 2 (Get Down) VG+ £25 Minimal, raunchy groover. Obscure one. Hear Korla with Klass - Stop Before You Start/No Other Woman (Music Master) E- £100 One time very big money modern and a version of the Arlene Bell on Velvet Hear Northern/R&B and a weird Latin disco ender++++++ The Chaumonts - I Need Your Love/Love Is The Thing (Bay Sound) EX £75 Straight up northern stuff on the top side backed with a slightly darker flip. £150 on Manship's site. Hear Claude Huey - Why Would You Blow It/Why Did Our Love Go (Galaxy) EX £175 Faultless and classy northern at the funkier end. So. Damn. Good. Hear Freddie Watson - The Unlucky Seven/It's All Over Now (Eloys) M- £20 Really good funky soul effort that probably gets overlooked but give it a spin: listenig again to this having forgotten what it sounded like I looke dover at the decks and thought 'ooh, this is a good tough sounding funky soul tune, what is it, again…? Oh, this! Nice!" Hear Fabulous Pawns - One More Heartache/Monkey Time (IGL) M- £25 Good garage version of the Smokey tune backed with a try at Major lance's 'Monkey Time'. Decent record. Hear Anamia - Besame Mucho/Quizas, Quizas, Quizas (WS Latino) EX £20 Seen the LP from where this curious slab of Mexican disco originates up for $220 online! Wow. Check it and see if it's your thing. 10. PM or email soulstacks@gmail.com or check them out with easy buy links here Check the clips...some reallly good stuff here. Johnnie Mae Matthews is a personal favourite, as is the funk of the Educators Band and Charlie Clemons for the "The Devil has Made This Land His Playground" side not forgetting the awesome Edward Hamilton for the northern camp. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fox & The Roadrunners - Illusions Of Party/Dancin' (Giffer) EX £40 Hear Obscure crowd scene dancer. Jay Mitchell - Nitty Gritty Song/Unhappy People (Penn's) M- £30 Hear Nighty and gritty and another on Frank Penn's own imprint. T.S.U Tornadoes - Only Inside/Nothing Can Stop Me (Ovide) M- £20 Hear Texan geniuses with another strong two-sides. Educators Band - Everybody Doing Their Thing Part 1/Everybody Doing Their Thing Part 2 (Dy.Rich) EX £125 Hear One of my favourite funk records ever: the way those drums and the bass kick against each other, the sprinkling keys, the soaring sax. Got it all! Charles Pryor - What They Doing (Funkie Junkie)/I Just Want To (Change My Mind) (Double 07) M- £20 Hear Despite the scare stories this is pretty much the same as the Acquarian issue…still the perfect kind of record to get that bar gig going. Charles sneaks a version of the Tyrone Davis classic onto the flip hoping no-one would notice… Richard Brown - Sweet And Kind/Don't Listen To The Grapevine (Steeltown) M- £35 Hear Fantastic record and maybe a little overlooked but this oozes soul! John Roberts - I'll Forget You/Be My Baby (Duke) VG++/VG+ £75 Hear Uptempo class from Texas…take a listen. Charlie Clemons - Can I Use Your Body/The Devil has Made This Land His Playground (Mighty Power) EX £175 Hear Hear Gospel disco anyone? 'The Devil…' rolls along faultlessly while the flip does something similar. Obscure as anything. Was subjected to a Tom Noble remix a while back but this is the hard 7" Lamar Thomas - Feel So Good Inside/(Take Me To) New York City (MCA) EX £100 Hear Big label that sounds like an indie rarity. It's in fact a big label rarity - tough to find a a class modern dancer. Set to go bigger! Edward Hamilton - Call Me/I'm Gonna Love You (Carrie) M- £275 Hear Hear Beautiful copy of the faultless northern soul smasher. Just so. Damned. Good! C.O.Ds - I'm A Good Guy/Pretty Baby (Kellmac) M- £10 Hear Probably get overlooked but a stunning record in my book: too cheap to be good, right? Toni Mathis - Everything You feel Is Me/Bring The Boogie Woogie Back (Nectar) M- £20 Hear Written by Chicago native Bill Quateman (who released four albums of adult contemporary rock for CBS and RCA between 1972 and 1979), this downtempo psychedelic soul track has it all: beats, drama, horns, hammond, a gospel chorus, and amazing jazz-inflected vocals from Toni Mathis. This appears to be Mathis' sole release. As borrowed off the net. Magnificents - Do The Whole Rock/Do The Whole Rock (Ken Tone) VG+/VG £30 Hear Nashville funk sound of the 1970's on the tiny Ken Tone logo. Johnnie Mae Matthews - Got - To Be (On The Case)/You're The One (Art) M- £175 Hear What a record! Blimey, it's got the lot from the songwriting seer that was Johnnie Mae Matthews: lilting flute, sassy female empowerment lyrics and a brush with the deep with a beat scene as well as having a funk vibe. So good! Flame and The Sons of Darkness - Solid Funk/Something (P & P) EX £20 Hear Dirty, gritty muddy funk from this hard working crew out of New York. The local girl doing the singing on the Beatles cover on the flip was tryig her best too.
