  1. EUGENE THOMAS NEW RELEASE! The name of Eugene Thomas has become well known in soul circles ever since it was discovered that he was the lead vocalist on that wonderful Northern Soul double sided classic by Epitome Of Sound – “You Don’t Love Me b/w Where Were You”, which was recorded at Venture Studios in Bound Brook New Jersey and subsequently released on Sandbag Records in 1967. Fast forward an amazing 52 years and the author of both sides of that classic 45 Robert Paladino, has recently released a 45 and here, hot its heels is a solo effort from Mr Thomas. Written and co-produced by Eugene himself, Eugene Thomas – “I’m Through With You b/w Lovely Lady” Sweet Beat Records (RW1805), combines two excellent soul sides that do a great job of tipping their hat to the golden era of 60s soul. The A Side is a pounding up-tempo dancer relating the story against a love affair gone wrong as Eugene ditches his two-timing woman. Full blown, on the fours, Northern Soul with a crackin’ sax break, if it garners the right exposure I’d imagine it will get great dancefloor reaction from the dancers. The flip is another ‘bounce along’ dancer that highlights Eugene’s dexterity within his song-writing skills as he embraces a new love. Musically it’s another performance that would seem ideally suited to the Northern Soul dancefloors. The 45 is available from all the usual outlets in UK and US. Here's a snippet of both sides: Dave Moore

  3. Hi John, Not me in Benalmadena. In Malaga or Torremolinos maybe? Suite 45 at The Pink Elephant with Sergio and Antonio? I live in Spain near Mojacar, you should come up to Hitsville Weekender every September. Great weekend. Happy New Year! Dave
  4. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! Here's my Hopes and Dreams.... Having been roaming around like a Gypsy for most of 2018, in 2019 I'm hoping to : A. Finally refile my record collection! B. Decide where we are going to live! C. Be reunited with my motorcycle before the summer! I'm not holding my breath on any of the above..... all good fun though! Dave
  5. I've never heard of an acetate/master tape with just the backing track. That's not really surprising when you look at the history of the Cameo Parkway company, especially after ABKO too it over. Regards, Dave
  6. Nope it's a Billy Jackson/Kae Williams/Joe Renzetti outing. The studio production was done by Kae with Billy in charge of the musicians. The session was done at the then Cameo Parkway studio at 319 S Broad St (later to become Sigma Sound 2). Great record. Dave

  8. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Tradition is a big part of this time of the year and so as, is customary, the Soul-Source Team would like to pass on our seasonal salutations to all the members. On behalf of the site we like to wish everyone and their families a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year! Lots of great site features and contributions in the past year and many more equally soulful ones to come in 2019. Have a great time everybody, go easy on the 'figgy pudding!'
  9. When I reviewed the Linda Jones version a few years ago I wrote...... "At 1.25 it's as though Linda has had enough and elbows the guys out the way with a well meaning but belligerent 'Move over boys, real singer coming through!'. Dave
  10. LOL! Not a Stokie mate no. I wasn't aware of another DM on the site that's all. I'll now go and take out a new mortgage...... err, what's your DOB and current address? LOL! Dave
  11. Argh! Just to clarify, this member is a different DM to myself. Regards, Dave
  12. It's a little delicate subject but Eddie did indeed date Ms Tari Stevens who, in turn, was indeed Christine Cooper. Sadly, he has no idea where she is now though. The information was then confirmed/corroborated by the sound engineer of 'HAMB'. I was desperate to find her in order try and get her on stage but all to no avail so far. Dave
  13. Chris, You are aware that CC is in fact Tari Stevens and was the girlfriend of a famous Philadelphian that you have actually met? I'm sure we've had this conversation before? Dave
  14. Hi Dave, Welcome to Soul Source. Feel free to wade in. Regards, Dave

  16. I was DJing at a Hotel Venue when a guy a little 'worse for wear' came up and asked for 'That James Bond' song that a woman sings'. I knew exactly what he wanted but didn't have it with me. (Yvonne Baker). I told him I didn't have it with me to which he replied.... 'You haven't even looked!' I told him I didn't need to look, that I knew it wasn't with me and that maybe the next DJ might have it. He gave me a look of complete disgust and sauntered off to his mates for a conflab. Few minutes later he returned with the remark ' Hey you wanker, you could at least look for that James Bond Record'. He then pointed at the machine behind me that had led lights flashing etc and said 'Call yourself a DJ', you must have millions of tracks to choose from, we want you to play it so fuckin' play it! I explained to him that the machine he was pointing at was an amplifier NOT a laptop! LOL! He returned a little later with it playing on his iphone and asked me to plug it in! LOL! Ah, the digital age eh? Dave
  17. Welcome to Soul-Source Jack. Enjoy. Regards, Dave
  18. A few of us were in there last year. It all looked great although the layout has changed massively since it's heyday. What a shame they couldn't make a go of it. I guess TV ads and radio jingles aren't enough to sustain it. Hope someone buys it that can ensure it's not a victim of the Land Developer's wrecking ball! Regards, Dave
  19. Welcome to Soul-Source Barry... Enjoy! Regards, Dave

  24. These features are great, thanks for sharing them. Just to add a little snippet of info... I asked Billy Jackson about the Tower 45 and he was adamant it wasn't his work. When I pointed out that it must have been as he worked closely with Jimmy Wisner the 'penny dropped'. "Ah in that case it is Jimmy putting me down as the writer so I might make a few bucks". He and Jimmy were close in those days and Jimmy apparently did that on a number of occasions to help Billy out. A decade ago a couple of us reunited them for a fantastic lunch where we simply put the dictaphone recorder on and let them run with their memories. Sadly both now passed away but a fantastic legacy from both of them will ensure they are always remembered and revered in music circles. Regards, Dave
  25. The Major is HoF bound. Along with a few others. Regards, Dave
