  1. I thought it was her daughter? She of Black Nasty fame.
  2. Capitols When you're in trouble / Soul, Soul (plum label) 15 This is their best 45 imo. For those who don't know it it's a great example of soulful group harmonies. Fergie....If you're reading this and ain't got one yet,....buy it Mate, you'll love it.
  3. First found this around '92. Kept it ever since. Don't really know why as it's a little weak as far as 'Northern' goes but there was (is) something about it. Quirky thing innit?
  4. This, Yum Yums and Larry Clinton. Three oldschool northern that have probably never nsetled in the same collection I'd wager. Nice.
  5. Excellent! I never knew that. I always presumed Billy did the Monty. Nice one.
  6. Eh? I always thought that was Billy Jackson? Of Franky Beverly, Yvonne Baker etc fame. In fact I'm pretty sure it is. You sure that was Chris Jackon Sean?
  7. Maybe to a deaf bloke. It's a freakin' awful record. A really good example of rarity over quality for me.
  8. Yep...I wish!
  9. Oh Yeah! And still a looker!
  10. Hi Pat, Good luck with the Cricket Club Mate. You may well need it. Last time I was there when Phil K ran it there were more DJs than punters. Have you tried upstairs at Co-Cos? Just a thought. Town Centre location, modern facilities, in house quality speaker system. Think the Cricket Club may have had it's day Mate. Christ....Moses was Ginger and Eddie's first guest there! Good luck with it though. I'll drop in when I'm in town to catch the Mighty Clarets campaign en route to the European Cup Final! Take Care....
  11. In my top three female artists I've seen perform. (And I've seen a few). That night in '98 when she appeared at the Ritz and came out to "I'll Be Available" in that blue satin dress.......audible gasp from the crowd. She is and always will be a really classy lady. If she's had other dates cancelled then something has gone terribly wrong PR wise 'cos I can't imagine people not wanting to see/hear her. I was in Las Vegas mid 90s with styrene-45 and unfortunately we left the day she appeared at the Hilton. Now THAT would have been something eh? Brenda fronting a decent orchestra, in a room design for acoustics.
  12. I taped the whole rehearsal of the guys before they did their first live performance of the song since they recorded it. Sammy Campbell was the epitome of a professional. Took him 15/20 mins to have the band, the backing singers, and us eating out of his hand. I watched it with Colin Dilnot and we both looked at each other.....knew we'd witnessed something special. Then took a photo of the guys with my 45. A very special afternoon as we also watched The Spellbinders run through their show too. What the SouTrips are all about for us.
  13. Nice job by Pam and Charlie Chris, thanks for posting. As an aside I have a tape of Norman Donegan singing "Think Of Me" that we recorded with Bev and Dave F in NJ. Great afternoon.
  14. Cody Black - Going Going Gone - Ram Brock Tony Clarke - Landslide - Chess Jimmy Robins - I Can't Please You - Impression 5 Of A Kind - The Other Side - Sidra SORTED Mary Love - Lay This burden Down - Modern Syl Johnson - Do You Waht Love Is - Special Agent SORTED Eddie Whitehead - Just Your Fool - Black Jack Still looking for a few of these. Cheers,
  15. These are the same as the Topps 45s. There are I think 17 of them. I have them all in MINT bar one Miracles - Shop Around. A full set of them is pictured in an Issue of There's That Beat! (Can't remember which issue). Now if I could only get the Miracles one off the inside of the lid of Rod Shard's record box I'd be complete! I'd like the packaging/box but $1500?? Jeeze!...I think my set bought as individual pieces over the years cost around $300.
  16. Might be remembering a load of bollox here but didn't he play with an early incarnation of Bobby Taylor and The Vancouvers in Canada too. Slight Motown connection I suppose.
  17. As usual, no tyre kickin' here. All are White Promos I need. If you have them I'll pay a decent price. - Dave Cody Black - Going Going Gone - Ram Brock Tony Clarke - Landslide - Chess Jimmy Robins - I Can't Please You - Impression 5 Of A Kind - The Other Side - Sidra Mary Love - Lay This burden Down - Modern Syl Johnson - Do You Waht Love Is - Special Agent Eddie Whitehead - Just Your Fool - Black Jack
  18. Keith, 'Go On' by Jimmy Mack is the same backing track to "Look At Me' by Dave Hall on Sound.
  19. Great double sider. Kitchen sink proper Northern on one side and a neat plaintive beat ballad on the other. A Grand? I should koko! but a great record and one that I'm happy have kept over the years.
  20. I've seen quite a few of the 'wanted' acts including The OJays, Jerry Butler, Jimmy Burns, Little Anthony etc and have enjoyed every one of them. Always been a sucker for live performances and try to get to as many as possible. If I had to choose an act to see that I haven't already seen it would have to be: Jimmy Raye. Imagine hearing "Philly Dog Around The World" at the Main Hall in Prestatyn backed by the Midnight Hour Band. John, Bernie.....get to it lads....
  21. Hi Wilxy, Deon was in my top 3 live acts to see and we nearly made it happen. He's a nice guy and I haven't given up hope yet but can't see him doing it in the foreseable future. Buy hey.......never say never eh?
  22. Great pic Chris.....and Elouise looking like a doll too! Great stuff. Great talents.
  23. Exactly Mate, It's why we do what we do. We need another 'field trip' pal. Need to get to as many as possible before it's too late.
  24. Had a message earlier today from a friend Stateside telling me that Chris Bartley had died. waited until now to get confirmation and can now confirm it is true. No real details as yet but thought it right to post about his passing. A fantastically soulful singer Mr Bartley was a perfect foil for the talents of Van McCoy and recorded some of the most sublime mid tempo songs that Van created. Mr Bartley's only main rival in this particular style of soul was Deon Jackson in my opinion. So.....in true Hitsville fashion...I thank Mr Bartley for some fantastic music and memories, and wish him him a safe onward journey. Congratulations Sir, on a job extremely well done. Sort of poignant with Tony R putting together the VMC CDS eh?
  25. Excellent! Many thanks Paul. Gret info. Glad my lugs still have it! I had them down as different groups but haven't access to my records.
