  1. Hi Russ, I'm outta here in less than 48 hours! Had enough of chikin n rice to last me a freakin' lifetime! oh...and that 45 was "You Can Do It By Yourself" by The Dynamos on Dynamo. Vocal and Instr on other side. Great record....and nice and cheap just as we like 'em! Bugger Me! Some askin' ME about a 70s ditty?....Oh No...I may have gone over to dark side!!
  2. Russ!...take that worm out you mouth yer loony!! You'll never learn!
  3. Hi Gilly, Hope your well Matey, Yep we've been down the Lollipops road before eh? You're right of course and there are distinct similarities with the girls. Bev is convinced that they are one and the same line up too. And of course, with Duke Browner being the conduit I reckon there's a good chance you're right.
  4. See Issue #2 of There's That Beat! Theres a fantastic picture of the Lollipops in the feature on Impact Records. It also investigates the different Lollipops line ups for the different labels they were on I think. I interviewed Harry Balk extensively in 2006 and his quote was "I'm sure Barney (Duke Browner) cut 4 sides on her". be nice tio find the other 2 eh? The link between The 'Motown" (VIP) Lollipops and Impact was obviously Harry. When he took over as Head of Creative Department he folded Impact and took Barney and a few artists/tracks with him. hence Duke Browner produced The Lollipops on VIP. Of course Barney Browner turned his back on the secular world many years ago and unfortunately has now passed on so a lot of the detailed info on his work went with him. I tried everything to trace Gardenia Barnes but all to no avail. The last person who had contact with her was, I think, Tim Ashibende but he hasn't a clue where she is now.. All he remembered was that she was an extremely 'large' lady. I'd be surprised if Dena Barnes was a member of The Lollipops at any time, but stranger things have happened eh? Great records all of them.
  5. Went for approx 6200UKP. If the buyer gets stung at Customs and Excise for the full whack that's another 1050 making a possible cost of 7250. If buyer is from UK, I'd fly out and pick it up. Be cheaper and less risky.
  6. The story of Towanda Barnes and in fact the song itself, is intertwined into the story of Johny Brantley's life. It was all told in Issue #5 of There's That Beat! All long sold out now but if you get a chance to read the feature it's well worth it. Bit more to Mr Brantley than just the Sam Williams cut. I like all the versions of LSTMF. Great song.
  7. I actually did this once on a small but valuable buy. Worth every penny. Saved 800 UKP.
  8. Pointless discussion. Unless you are a traditional collector you ain't never gonna get it. Part of the attraction is the actual physical record as well as the music contained on it. Berry Gordy's biggest 'Fuax Pas' "It's What's In The Groove that Counts." What he should have said was "It's What's In The Original Grooves that Really Counts"
  9. I think one of the things to consider is that Kent/Ace who do things a certain way seem to be bucking the trend within the industry as far as selling 'physical product' is concerned/ Now granted it's a pretty small niche market in the scheme of things but soul fans seem happy to still buy a physical piece of music if it's produced to a standard. I think the industry itself has failed on all counts to understand the way technology was going to attack their monopolies and I can't for the life of me see how they currently make any money? I know they've slowly been dragged into the 21st century with newspaper freebie links and other gimicky marketing ploys but can anyone explain to me how the massive revenues from vinyl, cassette, CD etc in the recent past are now going to be generated? I can't see payments for downloading a file at 99c generating the same cash as a Lp or CD, can anyone? I'm a record collector so it really doesn't affect my personal choices as I only possess a handful of CDs and have never downloaded a soundfile from a site but surely if the music is out there for free the industry is buggered...BIG time.
  10. If your looking to buy good condition records at a "FAIR" price the contact Jason at majorwaxbuildup on facebook or myspace. He's plenty of good condition 45s but make sure you take some decent cash as he knows exactly what is what. You ain't gonna find a Prophets on Shrine bfopr cents on the dollar Mate, that's for sure. Good Hunting!
  11. More chance of finding good soul 45s in Mumbai than Florida nowadays.
  12. Now there's a thought for a Christmas Card Ian! My 'result' was not a TB though Ian but a rather special slice of the Pied Piper legacy.
  13. Love a happy ending....Had one myself yesterday too. Nice one Pete.
  14. Neil would confirm but I think he got Billy Jackson's Sassy stock of 400 from his apartment.
  15. The yerv more money than sense Mate! No...like I said I'm a little behind the curve with the prices of UK stuff now. What you reckon that would make the stockers worth then? Last stocker I had came from Vinyl Solution around 85. Paid 15 sqidleys for it. Eeee! Them were t'days eh Ian?
  16. Pete, Pretty sure I found one of the first stock copies of this years ago. (Traded at that nice man in Melton Mobray's place along with Spinners - Green Columbia stock Issue (also extremely hard)and Demo)I've had one other since then. It's a rare 'un for sure on stock copy. Demo is ten times easier Mate. As for pricing I'm lagging a bit on UK prices but would have thought 150/200 for a demo. Stocker...maybe 300 or higher?

  18. Cheers Guys, Available on vinyl perchance? Don't fancy buying the soundtrack just for that one track.
  19. Just been working and in the background had the TV on. Up pop the credits to Beverly Hills Cop III and there's a great uptempo song playing as they roll. It was only on less than a minute abut I think the chorus (title?) was "I Keep Doin' It The Wrong Way". Anyone help with any details about the song? Help appreciated as always.
  20. Go for it. I did. I'm crap but still enjoy it (same as my golf actually!) Get a good teacher though. He'll teach you to read as well. Worth the expense to do it properly. I haven't picked it up for the past 3/4 years but I intend to again when time allows. As yer man says...rewarding for sure. Good Luck Matey.
  21. Hi Bob, That's the one I meant. Couple of numbers on. You only get 'half' the bargain with this one.
  22. Here's my contribution. I like the 'traditional' styled enders as you can see. Ruby Winters - Better Jimmy Beaumont I Never Loved Her Anyway Enchanters - I Paid For The Party (Hitsville's Ender)
