  2. The greatest slice of bass for me is : The intro to Stevie Wonder - Uptight - Tamla Simplicity itself but played like a metronome. Result: Classic bassline intro that stands proudly next to anything produced by anyone before or since. Regards, Dave
  3. Many of the Motown LPs were released on reel to reel. Not like berry Gordy to risk losing a sale in ANY medium. Regards, Dave

  8. There was an promo advert doing the rounds a while back attributing this 45 to The Majestics on a Rampart 45 too. There were questions as to whether the ad was kosher? Anyone know anything about it? Regards, Dave
  9. I think the challenge of involving youngsters in vintage soul music can be summed up by using the European 'scenes' as a yardstick. Their events are dominated by people half the age of the average Soul - Sourcer. Why is this? How come they can get 200 like-minded young soul fans together but the UK old guard can't get 10 in? To me it's all quite simple... It's about people being comfortable with their peers. Sons, daughters, etc of the old guard are held up as some type of example of 'the future' of the 'scene', I'm with Chalky, it ain't never gonna happen. Most Euro events are completely dominated by the retro British Mod culture and the music is an extension of that. It goes along hand in hand with the scooter, the Ben Sherman etc. I think that's also true to an extent of the events in UK trying to purposely attract a younger element to their particular gigs. At many (Most) Euro events the 50 odd year old UK soulie is in a minority, in UK it's the opposite. Just like we gravitated to our peers, youngsters do the same. It's the natural sociological thing to do. I struggle to understand how people think that that's not the natural order of things and accept that 99.9% of teenagers would balk at the idea of spending social time with people old enough to be their parents, (and in some cases grandparents!!) Watering down the actual music is ceating something different. It's changing what WE do in order to try and influence people by introducing them to a facsimile/retro image of the real thing. Problem with this is that: 1. It fragments an already fragmented following. (You've only to read the thread on a second room to realise just how fragmented the 'scene' has become). and 2. Creates a danger of alienating the existing older crowd. (I'd certainly not return to a venue playing, Duffy, Whinehouse, Hip Teens etc etc) For what it's worth, I think it's best to leave the younger kids to their own resources, let them set up their own gigs, undertake their own musical journeys just like we did (do). Fashions, trends, what's cool one day and cold next, that feeling of immortality, the cameraderie that comes with travelling, socialising, pushing the envelope as far as possible. All these things happen to each generation...it'll happen to the next generation of soul fans if they want it to, lets' leave them to discover their own path instead of trying to manipulate our music/events to put a few more numbers through the doors. Regards, Dave
  10. The recent provenance of the stocker )last 10 years), is, as far as I know: Chadwick, Mason, Murphy. I also had both in my hand with an option on either for the same money. I took the W/Demo. Knew the stocker was a one off (it was then), but the Minter Demo was more for me. Far as I know Kev still has the stocker. Cheers, Dave
  11. "You've Got Crawl Before You Walk" WOW! Sounded better than the original!! PartStoppers got their mojo together. Great stuff. The show at Park Bar sounds fantastic! Great to see the real heroes of our music getting themselves organised to celebrate their legacy.
  12. Get 'em to the Carolinas next year Kev. Regards, Dave
  13. Joe, Sorry fpor delay in response, been on the road. I haven't an issue to trade at the minute but will dig out what trades I have and be in touch. Cheers, Dave PS. What cash would you accept?
  14. If that was me, (I'm not sure who I'm talking to), then that's not true. I confirmed to 2 US collectors that the matrix wasn't 100%. I also warned Phil D when he contacted me that there was a risk involved in buying any RL's from Paul Kyser due to it being offered to a number of US collectors who had their alarm bells ringing. Blatant scam. Regards, Dave .
  15. Eddie and Ernie - I Can't Do It - Eastern W/DEMO MINT - (No sol/wol) Cash waiting. Cheers, Dave
  16. Thanks for heads up Mark, John, PM sent. Regards, Dave
  17. Hi Phil, As I mentioned Burnley in my post I should explain that I only used the venue as an example and wasn't specifically criticising anything. I enjoyed myself whenever I attended your gig, even if the music wasn't always exactly my cup of tea all night long. As I think you'll remember I was usually there til the end listening to all the DJs and all the styles. If you get 100% your preffered tempos, syles and taste in one solitary allnighter then you've found soul Utopia. I always try and remember that somebody somewhere in thevenue is probably well chuffed to be dancin' to exactly the same 45 that sends me to the bar. Cheers, Dave
  18. It never has and never will be for the venues with longevity. One of the problems with pigeon-holing yourself as the Burnley Allnighter did at the beginning is that you run the risk of ignoring a slice of your potential audience. That's fine if you've 250 through the door every nighter but once the numbers settle you're left with the stark choice of: stick to what YOU want to hear or adapt in order to survive the financial implications. Thing is ...none of this is new, I remember the same discussions in 1977! For the group of people who are constantly bemoaning the way that other people enjoy their music the answer is simple. Put your money where your mouth is and run your own venue, your way, with the music you like on your own terms. Principles, politics are all fine but a fair percentage of 'gripers' are fair weather contributors who once they realise they're actually a small percentage of the 'scene' and that only a handful of people are likeminded, fold at the first hurdle. As for 'Allnighter music' . He He! It gets better and better on here! Good comedy writes itself! Is there any Alldayer music? Or is it just 'Allnighter' music played earlier in the Earth's daily rotation? Get the blinkers off peeps......you miss so much that black America has still to offer from it's studios/vaults. Regards, Dave
  19. It wasn't for the lack of trying though eh? See you in September Matey, bring a good set of dancing clogs, you'll need ' em. Regards, Dave
  20. Kiddo, Don't think I've ever seen a promo. Anyone? Good double sider. See you next week. Dave
  21. Hi Keith, Firstly, many congrats on the book, it's a great informative read and I'm sure will be well thumbed by many over the years. A big Well Done Matey. Without wishing to add to your workload would it be possible to see in your notes if there is any definitive info on the Dynamics 45 as far as the Laurie distribution deal was concerned? With the link to Ernstrat going back to when it does and the mythical status of the Laurie 45 BEFORE the boot/reissue/pressing in 1973 maybe it can now be be positively identified as existing or not? Ref: Arthur Drew: Neil Rushton would be the man to ID any link there. His recent collaboration with George McGregor brought forward quite a bit of Drew related info. Once again, congrats on the book, I daresay we'll be back with even more questions as it's reread again and again. Regards, Dave
  22. Hi Neil, Although the distribution deal was in place I'm not sure whether the Dynamics was actually released on Laurie as a 45? Keith says the Dynamics 45 was 'licensed to' Laurie and I know it's one of those 'mythical' 45s that some people say "I saw it in the Casino Record Bar in 1974" but I don't know anyone who actually has one. You evers een one? Cheers, Dave
