  1. Jeeze! You've just described me! I've just realised I've been pathetic all these years! Bugger.....I'm gonna sell every original I own, buy 10000 bootlegs and gain a little self respect! Only joking Pal, you do what you do and leave us to do what we do, there's a good lad. Regards, Dave PS. Where can I get a Margaret Little for a grand?
  2. And happy days they were Matey eh? More miles you did, more records you found! Regards, Dave
  3. Like what? What are the oldies you want to hear but don't? "a certain criteria of oldies" ?? I thought the only criteria for an oldie was that it had to be OLD. Regards, Dave

  7. Mike, Was talking at length to Norman Donegan (Ad Libs), a few years ago about the contribution Otis Blackwell made to popular American music. One of the great unsung heroes of our music. Great to see someone giving him his dues. Well done Mike. Regards, Dave
  8. Hey Marc, No dramas. I agree 100%. I too don't know a single promoter that would discourage Brits from attending their gigs (and I too have been to a few outside UK). It's about music, records, artists and having a good time with it all. The locations are simply a bonus to that sometimes. You'll enjoy it in Oct. It'll be a blast of a weekend. Regards, Dave
  9. That's not how I read it Marc. To be honest I'm finding all this anti - Brit thing a bit snobbish to be honest. See you in Oct in Spain (where you'll be on the bill with at least a couple of 'brits'! ) Regards, Dave
  10. There are plenty of "holiday soul things" usually run by us Brits in the sun, but what I want for my money is a passionate local promoter, great venue, new fresh Dj lineup playing ovo new friends to meet and a bit of an adventure. So I won't be packing my bucket and spade for Rimini. Karen x I've read some arrogant crap on here over the years. This is up the with the best. So a Brit can't have passion, promote locally, provide a fresh DJ line up playing ovo? You're having a laff aincha? Regards, Dave A 'Brit in the sun' (which I presume in the secret soulful elite speak means "soul riff raff").
  11. Macca, We're on Coasta Calida, the unspoilt coastline of Southern Spain, South of Cartagena. Great beaches, great mountains, great restaurants, with a stunning view of the Almanzora Valley from the mountain Pueblo. No high rise here Pal. We'll see you in Sept? Regards, Dave
  12. That's rubbish. Unless you are specifically referring for any event that you personally organize. In which case please, please post details asp so I can avoid any embarrassment on both our parts by turning up 'unwanted'. Regards, Dave
  13. I spoke to him in person three years ago and had discussed this and his GoodTime 45. Had pics taken with him and the 45s. Seems strange that he never mentioned anything? Regards, Dave

  22. Anyone see the BBC 4 Easy Listening series? The programme last night featuring Burt Bacharach's career was a great piece of musical history, some great video footage of the Brill Building at it's zenith, fantastic footage of Burt, George Martin and Cilla Black recording Alfie and of course, great footage of the maestro himself arranging and conducting both at rehearsals and live on stage, for lots of his hits including Dionne Warwick. Great contributions by Hal David and Carol Bayer-Sager too. Real skills, totally in command of their craft and rightly recognised as one of the great US composers of recent times. And, just as importantly, the story was told by the people who lived it and not some celebrity TV presenter/hanger-on. Would like to have seen some input about Lou Johnson but the programme was about BB so I suppose I've forgive them that omission. That Burt Bacharach was some cool dude! Regards, Dave
  23. I think we may have discussed this before but maybe not on SS. Anyone shed any light on this oddity? Never heard it or got any info on it. Not a Karen # and I doubt had anything to do with Ollie Mac but the font's too similar to just be a coincidence? Strange One Regards, Dave
