  1. Thought it noteworthy to record here on Soul-Source the passing of Mr Bruce Hawes, songwriter extraordinaire who, along with Charles Simmons and Joseph Jefferson wrote some of Philadelphia's most enduring songs. Quite a few people will probably be unaware of his contribution to that city's musical landscape but things like The Spinners, "Games People Play" and 'Mighty Love', were created by the talented trio. Bruce not only collaborated with his two close friends but also with Gamble and Huff on a number of projects. He can be heard playing keyboards on dozens of PIR outings. He also wrote a must have book on the subject of The Sound Of Philadelphia called "Growing Up In The Sound Of Philadelphia" Alongside his musical talent I found him the perfect gentlemen and one who was always happy to sing the praises of his contemporaries as much as take credit for his own endeavours. People who interview artists will appreciate that that is sometimes a trait in short supply. Ever helpful, patient with his novice interviewer and a font of knowledge he was a proper star. Bruce passed away yesterday after a lifetime immersed in music. RIP Mr Hawes Sir, and congratulations on a job extremely well done. Dave

Anyone got a Silhouettes LP on Goodway they want to shift? Also, any Motown related PROMO LPs? (except greatest hits or Anthologies). Dave 😉
  5. When I spoke to MT about this he said ' That's definitely NOT me, Dave'. I too had previously, (mistakenly), listed it as a Mike Terry piece. Regards, Dave
  6. Saw the cover photo and couldn't be bothered to open it up. LOL! Dave
  7. Close run thing but 'Groovy' just takes the honours for me. Motownesque is an understatement! Dave 😉
  8. Great Read! Top Article Kev. Well done matey. 😉 Dave
  9. Looking for a coy of : The Symphonics - Guilty - Curtom DEMO ONLY Any help appreciated. Regards, Dave
  10. Job done! Jason burned the midnight oil on the layouts! Thanks for the anecdote. Dave
  11. Issues #1 - #4 are the scarce ones. Although all the Issues have now just about sold out. The early ones were printed by an initial company that only did short runs before we sourced a more user friendly printer in California. (Hence we were caught out on a reprint on Issues 1 - 4!). Dave
  12. 2 different artists. Not sure why the topics were merged but I'll try and get them seperated. Dave
  13. I think it's just US buyers who are being hit at the minute. Lots of my purchases are sent to a mate's address in the US and then consolidated into larger packages and despatched to UK. (Same as Rod's set up). So... it appears that the UK deliveries are safe from that sales tax (at the minute). Best, Dave
  14. Have only just found out that Mr Willie Newsome, (aka Willie Parker), passed away on 22 September 2019. I spoke to his daughter a few weeks before about him maybe coming over to Europe for a final shindig but sadly it wasn't to be. For patrons of New Century Soul Allnighters there are nothing but great memories of Willie when he stunned us with his vocal prowess at Radcliffe Allnighter a few years ago. For Bev and I we have fantastic memories of a great week with Willie, looking after him on behalf of Chris Waterman and Marcelle Waterman. One of the highlights being the day we took him to Liverpool to see the Cavern and Bev got us in to the newly positioned Beatles statues on the Pier Head. (The cement was still wet and it was all fenced in). Willie was a great Beatles fan and his face when he went down the steps in the Cavern proper lit up! Sleep well my friend, and congratulations on a job well done with style and decorum that was second to none. Dave
  15. Just noticed that my last couple of purchases on Discogs have incurred sales tax. Anyone else experienced that or is Uncle Sam just picking on me? 😉 Dave
  16. Looking for a decent copy of: Alice Clark - You Hit Me - WB (WHITE DEMO) If anyone can help. Thanks for looking. Dave 😉

Chris, Could you forward me a list please? Hop the trotter is healing up? Dave
  19. Yep, exactly Geoff. A couple of the highlights for me was watching and listening to Allen Toussaint stories about Casimo Matassa and his legendary studios in New O'rleans. Both legends of course now passed on and the footage of Chuck Berry completely inventing his own style of delivery. (I'm a huge CB fan!) Regards, Dave
  20. Just a heads up for those that haven't seen it, on the BBC iPlayer on BBC4 there's a 3 part documentary that documents the birth and development of Rock N Roll. Some fantastic footage and interviews with many of our heroes are interspersed in the story and the whole thing is worth watching. It's the BBC so there are some gaping holes in it but it's a visually stunning and well presented set of shows that highlight the black music of the era(s) very well. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0615nmw/rock-n-roll-america-1-sweet-little-sixteen Best Dave
  21. Gone. Missed it. Dave

Tempests, Billy Harner, Len Barry, Matt Lucas, Intentions and loads of others. The Beach scene especially is littered with singers/groups who knew exactly what style of music they were singing. Dave
