  1. Taking your own Carts... It's something that always used to bug me when I DJ'd - kit unbalanced, cheap styli, etc. So when we started Hitsville the deal was we would only use the best kit and all carts, styli, especially would be quality, brand new every year. even the back up kit. It's worked a treat. Not only does the kit sound good but we're now totally relaxed and 100% confident that anyone invited to DJ with us will be completely happy with the set up. So..if you're invited to join us on our Technics, you can rest assured that your carts can be left at home. Regards, Dave
  2. Sure they're not asking you to "pitch it OUT?" Regards, Dave
  3. Warren, Mike, I'm much obliged. I'll try the companies you pinpointed. Help is really appreciated Guys. Regards, Dave
  4. Masqueraders - I've Got The Power - La Beat Issue Putting together some Brothers Of Soul 45s for Saturday, knew I had this somewhere and spent the morning searching shelves. Hey Presto! Found it! It's now in the package for pics. Regards, Dave
  5. Hey Mike, I'm obliged Matey. I'm onto another set too but they're in The States. Cheers for the effort, it's appreciated. Regards, Dave
  6. I just bought a transfer cable and then selected the stuff I wanted to transfer to my new one. It converted it all from Windows 7 to Windows Vista for me. Is that what your on about? Regards, Dave
  7. Mike, I'm obliged. Imitation is fine if good quality. I've found where I can buy individual ones (imitation) at 85p each online but at 3.50 for postage (for each one!), I'm looking to buy a set. Help appreciated. Regards, Dave
  8. I'm happy to buy imitation if it's good quality. I don't want old ones though, I have them, it's a set of new ones I'm after. Cheers anyway. Regards, Dave
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for a set of Alto sax mother of pearl keys. Anyone help? I've trawled the net and can only find them in The States. Surely there's a shop in UK that sell them? They're for a Trevor James horn if that helps. I even tried the TJ website but no luck. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Dave
  10. As the vinyl distributors, Rack Jobbers and Juke Box owners were slowly either consolidated or went out of business it's always amazed me what happened to the stock they carried that was still there. Example: I was at an open air market in Florida around '83 and stopped at a coffee stall. Wifey spied a pet stall with caged puppies for sale and insisted on going over to look. I duly dragged my complaining arse over there with her and spied a small pile of 45s atop a cardboard box. On inspection the 45s were the usual gubbins and nothing was there. Just by chance I opened the box and to my surprise found 50 mint copies of Patti Austin - Take Away The Pain Stain - Coral Demos! I immediately ,(as you do), asked the owner of the store if she had any more boxes of 45s. Her reply was that she only had that box as it was given to her by a passing shopper in exchange for some mice to feed a snake! God knows the journey that box had taken on it's journey to it's final destination...The record collectors of East Lancashire at Bank Hall Miners for a pint a copy about 4 years later! Regards, Dave
  11. Been played out quite a bit Pete I'd have thought. I know I've heard it on numerous occasions and used to to play it every now when I used to 'DJ'. Think you pinpointed why it was never massive though, the other side. Regards, Dave
  12. The chance to hear Brothers Of Soul LIVE! With a String Section!! In front of a knowledgable crowd of devotees!!! I'll be there for sure. If folks would rather have another soul night at their local gig that's there perogative and I hope they have a great night. Nothing wrong with that. Me? I'll be lost in the world of Detroit Soul listening to the legends that supplied the background to my life. Ensuring that they KNOW they were appreciated and that their work was admired by devoted fans even if it was a continent away. See, you only get a few chances to show them this. The word 'Loyalty' has been used and I find it a little sad that people have it a little mixed up. Without BOS and their ilk there'd be no scene/clubs/DJs etc to be loyal TO. This post isn't meant to upset anyone, there's certainly no malice in it. Just wanted to show a different personal perspective on the subject. The records are plastic. They're great but they're plastic. The people are the real gift to us. Regards, Dave
  13. :D Got lost along the way? You gonna make BOS next Sat? There'll be a few of us there. Regards, Dave
  14. Ian, The Philly 40th Anniversary stuff? Anything unreleased in amongst it. I too am working on a Philly project so would appreciate being kept in the loop if there are any surprises amongst it all. Carl, Vocals for sure Mate. Gamble and Huff were great but when coupled with Teddy they were stoooopendous! Regards, Dave
  15. Yep, I'm beginning to firm up my opinion that these were returned records. Your right, some of the ones I've found look like an OR too. And funnily enough they all seem to be early 60s Detroit 45s. Regards, Dave
  16. Ah, I see. No dramas, we'll see what happens. Regards, Dave
  17. Chaps, I could only find 2 of these for sale since last December on here. Pete's and Joe Ds. Can't find any info on any others? You got a link to the threads that show 2 a week are offered Tone? I'd be more than happy to re-appraise my price accordingly. Pete - Yours I thought was too cheap. Took me a long time to find this almost minter. Anyway...thanks for the input lads, always appreciated. Especially when it's productive. :D Regards, Dave

  20. Here's a scan of a Detroit 45 with the "DR" I referred to earlier. As I say, only ever seen on issues. Anyone got any ideas? There may be a perfectly simple explanation but I can't find out what it's significance is. surely other collectors have 45s with this mark on oris it just me buying too many 'wols'. Regards, Dave
  21. Yep, great subject George. I too remember the old Woolworths bargain bins. It happened with CDs in the late 80s/90s in Walmart too. I picked up most of the Motown REissue catelogue on lookalike covers from there at the time. Here's a question I've not been able to find an answer too. A lot of Detroit stuff has white or gold painted what looks like a DR on the label. I've only ever seen it on stockers, never on demos. Now either DR was a prolific collector who abused his labels or it may have something to do with the return system? I'll try and dig one out later. Regards, Dave
