  1. A well known loon in US 45 circles. But then the world needs a few loons in order that the rest of us can confirm we're relatively normal! Regards, Dave
  2. This morning's offering: The great Steve Mancha and Don Davis collaboration. My favourite of all Mr Wilson's performances. A mammoth vocal performance. Regards, Dave
  3. Todays offering: Late great Otis Leavill double sider available for peanuts. Whole label is the mutts nuts but then with the roll call of Carl Davis, Eugene Record, Tom Tom Washington, Willie Henderson etc on the 'business' end it couldn't be anything else could it? This 45 beats both the original versions, which are also great records, in my opinion. Love it. Regards, Dave
  4. This morning's offering: Another midtempo gem that never seems to see the light of day anymore. I love it. T'other side is probably better known by many:"Too Sweet To Be Lonely" which was also done on the same label by The Internationals which I've also posted. Two great sides. Regards, Dave
  5. This morning's offering: Great midtempo 45 that was released on 2 labels, Sentry and then later on Ray Charles' Tangerine imprint. I have the Sentry stocker but am sure I've seen a white Demo in the past on Sentry. Anyone confirm? Regards, Dave
  6. Here's this mornings offering: I played this recently in OZ, some liked it, some didn't. I love it. This came out on Strakers Records too which is a tad harder, in my opinion, to find and is a different (better) mix.
  7. Hi Steve, The Rex Garvin is reasonably hard but shouldn't be more than around the 100UKP mark I would have thought. Beware though as it has been bootlegged in the past I think. Can someone confirm that for me? Regards, Dave
  8. This mornings offering. Same song but miles apart. Two genres that I usually pay lip service too but Rex's original has a pounding latin beat which connects perfectly with his soulful vocal. The 70s version by the Dynamos is verging on out and out disco but just stop short. Both quality records in my opinion.
  9. Yep, it's their toughest 45 to find I reckon. The clip shows a blue Demo too! I have the stocker and the White Demo but that's the first time I've seen a blue demo. Great soul group harmonies on a fantastic song. Regards, Dave
  10. For those that thought they were a quirky dance craze group. Their best.
  11. Russ, If you're serious then when the time comes give me a little notice and I'll get there. Only got 3 criteria: 1, One x Good Record Putteroner 2. One x Good Record Putteroner 3. One x Good Record Putteroner Everything else is peripheral as you know. Regards, Dave
  12. Mark, Pete's right. You'd be better sending him the list and letting him broker the sales on commission. Can't speak highly enough of Pete's integrity in these matters. He did a sterling job on a collection of a late friend recently. Oh, and just as importantly, your partner is lucky to have you, The very best of luck with everything that's going on. Regards, Dave
  13. Van McCoy streets ahead of any other writer in terms of quantity with quality, although Mike Terry in terms of contribution may well be a close second. Rose McCoy - no relation. Regards, Dave
  14. Showstoppers - "Ain't Nothing But A Party" wins hands down! Regards, Dave
  15. Hi Ian, The mag is on hold at the minute, but will be returning. There is however, a 350 page full colour, glossy book in the pipeline that will be available next year. It'll be along the same lines as TTB! but will investigate the history of Philadelphia's soul legacy. More details next summer. Regards, Dave
  16. Hi Barry, I reckon this is exactly what it was. (DR). Lots of Miracle, Anna stuff with it on so may well have been done by someone within the close knit workings of early Motown people. I wonder if the likes of Robert Bateman or Smokey or Jackie Beavers or Johnny Bristol ever sat there marking 45s up? You never know! Regards, Dave
  17. With regards to large inventories of 45s it eventually got, (for me anyway), too much too wade through as the stock got 'sifted' and passed on it became really difficult for me as I didn't visit the large well known dealers too much, especially once the 'books' were discovered by them. Once dealers started asking $1000 for Ronnie McNier and $300 for Danny Moore's it became a waste of time. Example. I was at a record show in Orlando, mid 90s and the guy on the next stall told me he was retiring and did I fancy buying his stock. He owned a record shop in Jupiter, Fl. I asked the obvious questions, where were the records from , how many, sleeved etc etc. Turns out he had over 1.5 million 45s in two lock ups round the corner from his shop. I duly turned up at 0845 on Monday ready to take a looksee. By 5pm that day I'd sourced 1 record. Edwin Starr - Agent OO Soul! in VG at best!! I'd maybe sifted about a third of the boxes and decided it was a waste of time. Another time a friend in Coral Bay rang me to say that a guy who owned a white goods store had over a million 45s for sale. I of course set off on the 500 mile round trip, arrived at dusk, stayed with my Mate and arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed early doors to start digging. No A/C, 100 degree heat, 120% humidity. Same scenario. All day sifting box after box of crap. Only things I came away with (3 days later), was a dozen Phil Spector Demos, all VG only and a lung full of dustmites! . So...it's not all a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Regards, Dave
  18. Absolutely. The event in the Smoke Lounge in Detroit with Mel Britt in attendance deserves a landmark event tag all of it's own too. In my top 5 'soul moments' ever. FANTASTICO! Regards, Dave
  19. Another classic performance by Ms Jones. Surprised this hasn't been mentioned. She barrels past The Whatnaughts in terms of sheer power and delivery. Check out her Oooooooooooh at the end of her first verse and beginning of her second. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/sEy-YZ3dyYU
  20. It simply shows respect for the guys and their records, Chalky eh? I'd hate to have a Collector/DJ at any of our gigs come up to me and say "Dave, my Detroit Sounds Of Friction has been marked" or "My Prophets - One Gold Piece' now jumps!" That's why any money made at the gigs goes straight back into the clubs equipment maintenance coffers. Regards, Dave
  21. Warren, Mike, I am now the proud owner of a genuine brand new set of REAL "Mother of Pearl" keys. (Or will be when they arrive). I tracked down a set in the US eventually. I just wanted to thank you for all your assistance. It was appreciated and helped me in making a decision as to what to buy. Best, Dave
  22. There's a few artist that I regret never being able to meet or even see live on stage. This lady is my #1 female regret. This performance is fantastic. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/-CvxPPkSGaQ
  23. I know what you mean Boba. Therefore, the rule at our club is... No one touches anything on the set up but me. I set it up, I monitor it and I do any adjustments required during the weekender. I hold the spare carts and styli too. Sounds a bit like I'm a control freak. I suppose when it comes to the sound at our weekender I am! Regards, Dave
