It's something that is being investigated Mate. I'm not too up the E-Book technology but the publisher is, so hopefully the answer will be yes. Regards, Dave

Pretty sure Weldon would be well chuffed with the latest 'package' of the Harthon music. Luther, John and Weldon's contribution to soul music cannot be overstated. In the upcoming book about Philadelphia's role in black music (Out this Sept under the Hitsville/There's that Beat banner), their story will be included, (updated) in full glossy color- just how it should be. As Weldon would say.......BOOYAAH! Regards, Dave PS - PAUL, Just realised that the cover says 'remastered cuts'. Which tracks have been remastered and who did them?

How Do You Listen To Your Old Discs

Dave, Here's a link to a couple of sources for the cart/stylus combo. You can get them in UK but they add a little on so the price goes up to around the 95UKP mark. The replacement styli are around the $80each mark. or 95UKP for a pair. US: https://www.needledoctor.com/Grado-DJ200-Cartridge UK: https://www.htfr.com/m/grado Regards, Dave -

Hey Zoot, Good to hear that someone else uses Grado styli too. I'm always puzzled when folks say "the needle isn't really that important". I've used Stanton, Shure and Ortofon but NOTHING touches the Grados for a warm analogue sound at low and high volume ends for me. No fancy gimmicky head shells, no fashion accessories to match, just good old fashioned, second and third generation, hand built, quality research and engineering. Regards, Dave -

The comment about the wire in the speakers is something I never even considered until we started building the Hitsville sound rig. I bought 4 large floor speakers from a company in Chicago and blew all 4 of them first time out! Ended up running around Central Florida all night and renting a complete rig to finish the event off. Took the cabinets down to a Audio specialist the week after and had all the innards ripped out and replaced with top quality bits including the wiring. Have used them for 7 years now and they still sound great. When I rigged the record room, which I built from scratch, it was a case of lessons learned and it cost me well over 200 quid in cabling and connectors alone. (I ditched the Bose cabling but kept the connectors). I'm skint now of course but.......worth every penny. Regards, Dave -

Yep, they're part of the Bose Acoustimass Range. I got the Acoustimass 10 set. It comes with a floor positioned sub woofer and 5 small speakers that I pre-wired with balanced cable inside the walls.(I think they do a wireless version now too. When they kick in people have to look twice to see where the sound is coming from. It's a real proper surround sound that comes with a digital balancing tool. I think you can get them customised up to 500w each too! I had them made here in Spain by the dealership. It compliments the Denon perfectly. They weren't cheap, but hey, you can't take it with you eh? Regards, Dave -

I play mine on matching 1210s with Grado DJ200 carts and styli through a Denon 3400w amp and Bose 6way 250w apiece speakers the size of a packet of fags. It was a present to myself! And I love it! When I whack it up loud at 2am on summer nights, open the windows - the bulding vibrates and the fookin' neighbours get blown outta bed! God Bless Eddie Parker!! Regards, Dave -
Thing is - when you're 21 and don't give a fook cos your immortal, like I thought I was, it's all the craic. At mid 50, wife in tow, you tend to wanna enjoy yerself without any hassles eh? It's called growing up in some circles.... and getting old in others! Ah... The Circle Of Life!...... Regards, Dave

Yep, I concur with you Mate. The drinking at venues here is much more placid and I'd wager that's because the culture is different. Having said that - there have been a couple of incidents where people have had to be removed from Allnighters here that I've attended. One bloke actually spat a whole bottle of beer at some young girls. Security guy at the Valencia Allnighters was a great bloke. Professional, agood sport and knew when to 'step in' early enough and in the right way to ensure no knobbers got out of hand. Hitsville Weekender - Try stopping the people having a drink? No chance! He He! We do both - drink AND dance! Never had an ounce of trouble. Regards, Dave

Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
Dave Moore replied to dthedrug's topic in All About the SOUL
This afternoon's offering: A great record that sounds very "Defonics-ish". Not surprising really with Bobby Martin at the helm. Released in '72 it's a great example of exactly where the Philly sound was headed at the time. I love it! I only recently connected Little Dooley with Dooley Silverspoon! Doh! Regards, Dave -
Living abroad, only managed a couple of visits but had a great time on both occasions. Really hope that the ethos of the club manages to stay alive in new surroundings maybe. All the best guys, Dave

Didn't get a chance to hear Tony at his peak. Everyone I respect has nothing but great memories of him and that speaks volumes about the bloke. Wish him well from us Kev. Regards, Dave -
Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
Dave Moore replied to dthedrug's topic in All About the SOUL
This afternoon's offering: A great song written by two of my heroes who actually became friends, Jimmy 'The Wiz" and Billy Jackson. There are a few groups named The Revels including one that had Joe Jama in their line up. This is obviously the Philly black group who evolved from their doo wop beginnings that recorded the novelty 45 "Foo Man Choo". This outing is great example of the danceable soul records that Billy and Jimmy were so adept at. Tremendous record that should be heard a lot more. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/tFB2eV4EimQ -

This afternoon's offering: Another underplayed Philly gem that I think was one of the earlier collaborations between the group and G &H. I've never seen a promo of this so if anyone out there can oblige I'd be grateful. Cost: a couple of bucks...just how we like 'em! https://youtu.be/n_1M5I8uKlw -

This morning's offering: Great dancer from one of Philly's stalwarts. Written by a legend, arranged by a real life musical maestro and produced by another one. Huff, Madara and Renzetti. Couldn't really fail with those names eh? I think I have the West Coast demo of this. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/FFRbrWT-NO8 -

This afternoon's offering: Performance from a live PBS TV telethon in the US a few years ago. How much would you pay for a ticket to see these guys if you could nowadays. Fantastic song, sung by the guys who were part of the backbone of PIR. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/ckBE8-xFDYY -
Mick, Ask away. I've been 'doing' this record thing for over 35 years and learn something every day from threads like this. We all do. Regards, Dave

This morning's offering: Another underplayed gem from a premier Philadelphia outfit. Huff's 3 note piano riffs are as vital to TSOP as Mike Terry's sax arrangement was to Detroit's output. Great record. And once again....cheap!! Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/w4CLFSpF0BU -

Don Davis all the way. Strong percussion led vocal, subtle female supporting vocals (hate the phrase backing singers!), tempo that makes you almost wanna slew your words. And then, halfway through, that marshmallow soft sax takes you to heaven and back...GroovesVille, late 60s Detroit? ABSO- FOOKIN'-LUTELY! Post of the thread so far for me. Regards, Dave
