***UPDATE***UPDATE***UPDATE*** 9/9/2021 WEEK TO GO! Thought it best to just give out a few details about our shenanigans next week. I've not published things like timings, roster, locations etc as I learned from last year how confusing it can get as I had to chop and change on an almost weekly basis. I'm pretty confident that the current plan is solid but will confirm it all when I arrive at Continental on Monday for a final chat with Doli. There is a some ambiguity as to whether we will need to finish at 2am or can extend the Sat Night to 0330. COVID Protocols: Here's the details currently in place: The current protocols allow for tables of six INSIDE and 10 OUTSIDE Masks are currently worn inside the Hotel when moving around but not when eating or drinking. DJing: There will be no mandatory gloves or mic johnnies this year but there will be hand sanitizer in place. If guys wannna bring their own mics that's good, I will have 3/4 with me. Programme : All sessions will take place at the Continental this year. It was tried last year and worked, Less hassles at 2am outside Lua Bar. It also allows us more control of the venue. I have drafted a roster that gives everyone a decent spot and everyone will double deck on Sunday. Pool sessions are on the programme as usual and the AllDayer on the Terrace will be too. DANCING: Currently the rules allow for dancing OUTSIDE ON THE BEACHSIDE TERRACE and MASKS are REQUIRED. Last years stricter COVID regulations were manageable. This years are an improvement and may improve more before we kick off. The Hotel are well onside and the 'Hitsville Vibe' will be there in full I think. FINALLY, Although Mojacar is in the lowest infection rate level in Spain, in order to ensure we protect each other as much as possible could I ask that everyone undertake a Rapid Flow NHS test a couple of days before arriving. It might be prudent to also bring a handful with you. Antigen Tests for returning to UK are readily available at the Parque Commercial so don't flap too much about those. If anyone has any pressing concerns feel free to contact me via PM. I'm sure like us, you're gaggin' for a week away amongst great friends, many of whom we haven't seen for a year and a half. So bring yer best 45s, a good thirst, yer best laffin' gear and for the baldies amongst you.... a decent hat! It;s gonna be hot! See you next week Gang! Dave

The BENIDORM INTERNATIONAL SOUL FIESTA returns in 2022! "SUNNY DAYS AND SOULFUL NIGHTS" ARE BACK! *****UPDATE ANNOUNCEMENT****UPDATE ANNOUNCEMENT****. Thanks to all the ‘Fiestanistas’ for your patience as we work our way nearer to the Event. It’s certainly been a long two years for everyone! We are pleased to announce, that in conjunction with the Hotel Gran Bali management , we are planning the Event over the same dates but with some changes to our programme in order to overcome the obstacles. The main change is that unfortunately, due to health, insurance and admin reasons our usual Live Show has had to be postponed. Obviously this is a massive disappointment to us all but we feel that the health and well being of our Artists is paramount and I’m sure we all wish them well, especially Melvin Davis who is now on the road to recovery from his Covid experience. He passes on his gratitude for all the love and encouragement you have sent him. So, on a positive note, both the Hotel Management and ourselves have looked at the current situation and are confident that together, we will be able to pull off a quality event despite the change of Live Show. The Event will now consist of THREE ROOMS The Soul Terrace, The Cotton Club and The Underground (That will feature a full Live Show from The Twisted Wheels on the Saturday Night!) The DJ line up remains, the ethos of the different rooms remains and the determination to enjoy ourselves remains. I’m sure we’ll all have as fantastic a time as we have in the past! So more “Sunny Days and Soulful Nights” on the horizon at last! If any future circumstances change we will keep everyone informed and of course, our Covid Refund/Transfer policy remains 100% in place. See you in May! If people can spread the word it would be greatly appreciated. Dave

The 17th Hitsville Northern Soul Weekender is ON! A few restrictions are still in place in Mojacar, masks inside when not eating or drinking, max 10 to a table outsde whilst 6 inside etc but the main thing is that the venue can open to 0330 now and dancing OUTSIDE is allowed. So get ready to dance on the terrace overlooking the beach/Med. See all the Hitsville Stalwarts shortly! Dave
  5. I know it's a mute point in today's environment Dave but buying records 'back in the day' was a vastly different animal. Buying records from US dealers would usually leave a margin that people were happy with, whereas most current 'UK sellers' are now armchair buyers who are buying at retail prices. I'd given up looking in sales boxes apart from the ones I knew had gone and found the records they were selling. No point in trawling boxes of hundreds of hiked up Ebay purchases when I could buy them there myself. Dave
  6. I think the fact that no record companies, bar the two that don't partake in this practice have contributed to the thread, says a lot. Dave
  7. Hence Ace/Kent still see the colour of my money, Sir. Dave
  8. I posted this the last time this was brought up. I buy most quality new releases but have called time on the ones that employ this tactic. I've collected promos of 45s for 45 years and won't have the piss taken out of me. I don't even buy the issues from them now. They've alienated a good customer and I'm sure I'm not alone. Dave
  9. Sidney has been in touch. All is well. Dave
  10. Looking for a little assistance from fellow 'Soul Sourcers' if possible Tried to contact Sidney since March but my emails are bouncing back. Does anyone have an up to date email address or phone number for him please? Any help appreciated. Regards, Dave

UPDATE ON BENIDORM INTERNATIONAL SOUL FIESTA 29 SEP - 03 OCT 2021. Just back from a recce and meeting at The Hotel Gran Bali. The Hotel along with most of the ones in the town is open and operating, The Management are planning (as we are), for the Event to happen and are looking forward to welcoming us all back in September. No one has a crystal ball and can foretell what restrictions, (if any), may be in place come Sept but we are in a position to accommodate mo st of the numbers/real estate issues if they do happen to be in place. Spain have now ditched the wearing of masks outdoors and that's another step in the right direction. As the guidelines ease, I'll report back. Regards, Dave

  15. That made me laugh Gilly! I thought... been there, done that! LOL! I still get people contacting me asking me questions and when I say what page is it they are referring to, they usually tell me they haven't bought a book! LOL! I'm like you, it was something I needed to do, to recount the lives of people who I'd grown to love and try and relay their contributions that so many people in their hometown had missed. As the years pass by and the creators of our music also pass, I'm so glad I did it. Their legacy is there now, for all to find, forever and written by a fan. You should as proud of yourself as you are of the likes of Dave Hamilton mate. You have recorded history and done it a with an individual touch of style and panache. Well done my friend. Best, Dave

  25. Thought it noteworthy to record here on Soul-Source the passing of Mr Bruce Hawes, songwriter extraordinaire who, along with Charles Simmons and Joseph Jefferson wrote some of Philadelphia's most enduring songs. Quite a few people will probably be unaware of his contribution to that city's musical landscape but things like The Spinners, "Games People Play" and 'Mighty Love', were created by the talented trio. Bruce not only collaborated with his two close friends but also with Gamble and Huff on a number of projects. He can be heard playing keyboards on dozens of PIR outings. He also wrote a must have book on the subject of The Sound Of Philadelphia called "Growing Up In The Sound Of Philadelphia" Alongside his musical talent I found him the perfect gentlemen and one who was always happy to sing the praises of his contemporaries as much as take credit for his own endeavours. People who interview artists will appreciate that that is sometimes a trait in short supply. Ever helpful, patient with his novice interviewer and a font of knowledge he was a proper star. Bruce passed away yesterday after a lifetime immersed in music. RIP Mr Hawes Sir, and congratulations on a job extremely well done. Dave
