  1. If you get in touch with Bev at sales@theresthatbeat.com she'll sort you out a pack of the ones still in stock, all nice and minty too. I'm sure she'll do you a good deal. Or - she can be contacted at bevmoore@earthlink.net Regards, Dave
  2. Had most of the stuff in the 80s when you couldn't give them away. A couple that did elude me though: Roy Hamilton - The Panic Is On - MGM Demo (Missed one at a London Record Fair when Mick Atherton picked it up, at least I think it was Dave - May have been Dave Withers). . Wayne Fontana - Give Me Just a Little More Time - Phillips ISSUE Fathers Angels - Bok to Bach - MGM ISSUE Regards, Dave
  3. Like most of these efforts: "Video Killed The Radio Star". Is he singing English all the way through? Regards, Dave
  4. Really looking forward to seeing this. Think we'll see props for the Andantes, Sweethearts of Sigma or Sweet Inspirations? Surely? Regards, Dave
  5. Hi Richard, Yep as far as price in pounds is concerned I'd certainly agree Mate. But the Ad Libs is a Mint- and I'd think they are not as common in that nick as a stocker issue. Plus, sometimes it's not about the cost of a 45 but the value to you as an individual collector. A good example is Dickie and The Ebbtides on GW. Terrible record but hard to find so the cost of it is high but the actual value to me is nil. Yet I've seen many more Dickie and The Ebbtides than, say a Rose Batiste Holding Hands Demo or a Sunliners - All Alone Demo in perfect nick. Yell you what....it's a funnee ole game this collecting lark eh? Regards, Dave PS -I'll try and sort a few more out to contribute next week. Good thread.
  6. Here's a few from the shelves of my record room. Nothing uber rare but you'll have to have a good look round when searching for some of them. I'd say the hardest to find was The Capitols Karen 45. Had owned the stocker for 15 years until I eventually located a WDJ. Some of the Motown Styrene WDJs are particularly hard in pristine nick in my experience too.
  7. I suppose with most 45s like this, it's all about time and place. Neither is particularly rare or terribly hard to find, it's simply a case of waiting for them to come along, which they do on a reasonably regular basis. The difficulty with 45s nowadays is condition. If you're a bit of a WDJ freak like me and don't take kindly to wol, sol, H20, etc etc then it gets tougher for sure. Regards, Dave
  8. Have had a couple in the last 12 months as I continue to upgrade. Think last one (Mint-), was around the $30 mark. The other one "I Gotta Get Up" proved a little harder in the same condition. Regards, Dave
  9. Northern Soul. 'Cos that's exactly what I like. Stand Tall - Be Proud. The people who made the music did. Regards, Dave
  10. Cheers Pete, I'll git it a whirl. Regards, Dave
  11. The Melvin Davis Groovesville Demo is nice. I've been looking for a VG+ for over 15 years! Have an issue and had a battered demo but got shut, just didn't look the part with the others! Might do a piece on Demos, their role in promotion and and the psyche behind collecting them for the Bridligton Mag? Think that would fly? Regards, Dave
  12. Great stuff. How do I download it Pete so I can save it? Regards, Dave
  13. I certainly remember at least one Motown one. Chris King playing a C-90 tape of all the stuff he'd recently liberated from their Vaults. Some great stuff. Come to think of it, think it may have been a Motown one that Kim Weston and Brenda Holloway played in '98? Regards, Dave
  14. I don't remember them as a cheesy "oldies fest" at all. Sure, most were known sounds but some great rarities and underplayed 'blasts from the past' are what I remember and the likes of Kenny Burrell and Carl Willingham certainly used to shake it up a bit. These were the last of the 'record bar niters' too in my opinion. Before it all went a bit daft and prices became based on bukreedin' instead of common sense and good banter/bartering skills. Regards, Dave
  15. What years were you in the 'Shot'. I bet we caught the same trains after a full monty breakfast at the Top Hat! Regards, Dave
  16. Chris, It's the Satellite copy you need Mate. The Maverick one is weak. Regards, Dave
  17. It's on many of the Gamble discographies as a stocker. Also, there's a guy on FB reckons he has one! I've asked for a scan so we'll see if he means a WDJ. I've never seen one nor heard of anyone that has one so be great if it does show. Regards, Dave
  18. Hi Guys, Has anyone ever seen a stock copy of : Gail Anderson - Lets Fall In Love all Over b/w Be Proud - Gamble 206 Any help appreciated. Regards, Dave
  19. Ok - Most of you know my long time penchant for WDJs and my love of styrene records, so that end.....I'll try again......I'm looking for: The Supremes - Back In My Arms Again - Motown MAP DESIGN Monarch Pressed Styrene WDJ copy in min VG+. (No bb, wol, sol or any other gubbins though). I have a regular East Coast vinyl WDJ that I'll place in a Mint pic sleeve in cash + trade if that helps. Any help appreciated guys. Regards, Dave Moore
  20. Just package 'em up and stick 'em on here. Cheaper than Ebay and folks easier to barter with. Regards, Dave
  21. Hi John, Rest assured they went to a good home! Regards, Dave
  22. Hello Mate, Glad it wasn't just me that loved the place then. I remember their prices being all over the place and some stuff was 5UKP and right next to it the same thing at 15. You're right they were never the cheapest but it was the quality and quantity that always dragged me back. Just thinking back now I must have taken at least 150 UK TMG Demos out of there over the years. Happy hunting Matey... Regards, Dave PS. Did you ever get access behind that blokes white goods repair shop in Chertsey? I had a great result in there too once...but that's another tale.
  23. Just been wondering about this place. Anyone else enjoy their visits to this gaff? I built up a pretty much a whole Tamla Motown Demo collection from there. I always remember coming out potless and thinking..."Where can I get another couple of hundred quid to snap them up before they go!". Stuff like : All the Marvin, Mary, Contours, Isleys, Stevie stuff on R/Ws. Lots of Stateside, Oriole, London stuff and I found a couple I didn't know even existed then: Spinners - That's What Girls Are Made For - Columbia Stocker! In the same box was the Demo but I'd had one of those for a while. I remember almost shouting out loud when the green stocker showed. Another great find was Jimmy Thomas on a Parlophone black stocker too! I went straight up to Melton Mowbray with that for trades when JM was above the Audio/TV shop. I was always wondering how I could ALWAYS find stuff in there when there were all those collectors from London always about? Happy Days indeed. Anyone else have any memories of the place? Regards, Dave
