Enjoyed the10 mins. I look forawrd to seeing you give a cheesy "keep the faith" salute at the Oscars sometime! Good luck with other projects. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  9. It always makes me laugh this old chestnut. I personally love the Detroit "sound" as created by the likes of The Funks/Pocorn and Hestor/Bridges Knight Eaton/Solid Hitbound/etc etc. I always think that if the guys who don't rate the instrumentals/backing tracks aren't hearing what I'm hearing then they're actually missing out in some way. If The Funks didn't create soulful music then what on earth would you call it? Would John Lee Hooker sound the same with someone else playing his guitar? The people who made this music regard the music as soul just as much as the vocal. That'll do for me. Nice talkin to ya.... Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  10. About four years ago I left an allniter venue with NO RECORDS. That was the first time in nearly 30 years it had EVER happened.I made a decision that the prices for what I really wanted were so high that I would have to buy something else to justify the outlay. It then dawned on me I was actually about to buy records that I really didn't want! This was a pivotal turning point for me and my collecting habits. I now don't buy "fillers, missing numbers, or better copies of stuff I already have etc. Although there's lots of good records still out there, what's the fun of collecting, if you simply can't afford the records you REALLY want. That was my quandry. So...what was the answer? Well for me I totally changed my buying habits and decided to wait out the "returnees boom" until prices for the stuff I REALLY want comes tumbling down again as I believe it will. Anyone else conciously changed their buying habits? Problem is...... I now expect to own the current top $$$ 45s when I'm too old to dance to 'em!! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  11. Paul, I've never heard of /seen this on Mo Do? If it's not a typo post a scan please, may be interested. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  12. This is a very good point and imo some of the other points in this thread are valid too. The overly aggressive "upfront/underground/not the same old/patronising the "oldies brigade"/something completely different/ is all a bit too in 'yer face for a lot of folks. I know it is for me. I find it all a bit pretentious and to be honest condescending. Am I the only one? I doubt it speaking to a lot of Mates. Tell you what though....If your gonna sell a venue in that manner, then the playlists after such a build up better have their ducks in a row eh? Some great collections/collectors in that particular neck of the woods. As for playlists, I like reading 'em. Gives me heads up on stuff I don't know, reminds me of stuff I've forgotten, and I appreciate that. Keep 'em coming! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  13. Yep, Your right about the lack of roots etc here. That's the reason most US fans are still limpeted to the UK scene and struggle to have a vision for their own. But Rome wasn't built in a day and there's no alternative here. We either "get to it" or it won't happen. But then that was the case in UK 30 years ago eh? Are you at Barnoldswick 24th? If so bring a sales box! I'll stand you a drink and pick yer brains. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  14. Hi Rod, Neither do I Mate, But if you think that most collectors are gonna sit on what they percieve as a "retirement fund " until they pop their clogs imo your being niaive Mate. The "selling up syndrome" from a lot of UK collectors has already started. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned......means I'll eventually have the opportunity to maybe get the stuff I haven't got, that I've always wanted, without resorting to selling what few remaining fully functioning, but scrawny, body parts I still have! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  15. Hi Brett, I had to "eject" this or Edwin Starr - I have faith in you - Ric Tic. JJ j...u....s....t.... shaded it with the intro. I'm a big fan on "instant intros". Hence the inclusion of Stevie Wonder. The simplicity yet instant POWER of Jamerson and the guys at their pinnacle. With this backing track even I could have had a hit!! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  16. Jock That could so easily have been my top 5!! 4 of your selections were almost in mine!! Great minds eh? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  17. Actually, not such a tough one for me. I like the newer things just as much but when it came down to it the list got shorter and shorter whilst these were never even considered for "rejection". Therefore must be my top 5! Stanley Mitchell - Get It Baby -Dynamo Darrell Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart - Revilot Al Williams - I Am Nothing - LaBeat/Palmer JJ Barnes - Real Humdinger - Ric Tic Stevie Wonder - Uptight - Tamla If I have to explain why......then you ain't never gonna understand anyway! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  18. For those in the UK that are blinkered enough to think that Northern Soul is still a uniquely British phenonmenon here's a few observations about the US RareSoul Scene from someone who's experienced it both sides of the pond. The niggles of politics that abound in the UK just don't exist here (yet!) The scene here is predominantly supported by keen knowledgeable "youngsters" who are searching out the real deal vinyl and are just as "dedicated" as anyone in UK. In fact if anything it's more difficult for them cos we (Brits) empied the place of most of the decent stuff a couple of decades ago!! The size of the place and the expense of promoting venues is horrendous here. You can only respect the guys who do it. We lose $$$$$ every time, but we still keep on keeping on. It's a fact that the UK is heamoraging 45s like never before to Ex pats and new fans worldwide. Surely that's good thing? Who yer gonna sell all yer rekkids too in 5-10 years time? Check out: www.hitsvillesoulclub.com www.soulclub.org www.centralsoulclub.com www.southeastsoulclub.com all happened this year! We're building and the foundations are solid! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. As for "negativity" Mike. I think it was taken the wrong way Mate. Sure you'd agree that the US/UK connection certainly worked last October and will again tenfold this September.
  19. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
