  1. You must have gone on different nights to me. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  2. The sooner the arse drops out of the "worth" of my record collection the better as far as I'm concerned. I regard my collection as worthless in financial terms. I'm sure many other collectors also do. Once the "investor" collector starts flapping and trying to liquidise their "asset" the better. I can then start buying seriously again! I'll wager I'm not the only one waiting in the wings either! In fact...I know I'm not. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  3. Man, there are so many...........the unsung heroes of Rare Soul: Some more "unsung" than others: Bridges Knight Eaton Don Davis LeBaron Taylor J M Mathews Len Jewel Hestor/Wylie Ed Wingate Geo-Si-Mik Pied Piper Jo Armstead Etc Etc.........I'll give someone else a go. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  4. Happens to me regularly. In fact last Tuesday I drove 300 miles round trip to check out a 250.000 stash that the guys said he just wanted shut off to make space. So the usual questions: How old? 45s/33s? Sleeved? Got all the right answers, turned to find box upon box of absolute rubbish. Not one single record to be had. Ended up buying a Spinners Demo and a Niteliters Demo just cos I felt sorry for myself AGAIN! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  5. Le Cam innit? Also....isn't this a male/female duet thingumijob? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  6. I've posted some Motown Demos up and will be posting lots more Nothern/Motown shortly ALL originals. Link is here, then click on "see sellers other auctions." https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Cheers Peeps. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  7. Sad news indeed. It seems that no sooner do the guys get "rediscovered" that it's time for them to leave. RIP Mr Laskey, Take a bow Sir, for job extremely well done. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  8. I thought the listing showed up on both? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  9. Your delicate ears would shrivel up like wet walnuts and become inverted never to reappear again before the intro had finished Rod. Don't risk it Mate! 1954?? Good Lord that 45s older than me!! Hope it's aged better! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  10. Thanks for the update. Sad. Great talent. Would love to see him straighten out and get back to gigging. The curse of the demon drink strikes again eh? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  11. Hi Tone, No I wasn't aware that they were one and the same. So are we to asume that Deena Johnson on Simpson is also Joshie? If that's so I would never have guessed that the same singer sang Sad Girl! Thanks for the info. Have to agree with you about Linda Jones. I remember the first time I heard her with the Moments on Stang - I'm So Glad I Found You. The record fair pumps along in good order but then when Linda's power is brought to bear the music, as well as the Moments vocals simply pale away into insignificance. THE femme voice of soul for me. No one comes even close. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  12. After all the bad news this week, I figured some good news was maybe the order of the day so...... Won a record on Ebay a few weeks back. Paid via Paypal and sat waiting for it arrive. Week later - Nothing. 2 weeks later - Nothing. So, I sends a message via eBay's "ask seller a question" facility enquiring as to where said 45 may be? Nothing! This week sent another message expecting to once again hear nothing, but this time the guy replies. His computer has blown, he's waiting for insurance to cough up for a new one, he's lost all his orders from customers, he's working on a borrowed laptop, his budgie needs worming, etc etc etc. So thinks I.....waster! Suprise, Suprise! This morning I recieved a well packed mailer containing said 45 MINT! And........wait for it............a letter of apology detailing his computer problems and his appreciation of my patience in the transaction with.................you won't believe it................a FULL REFUND of the price of the 45 AND the postage cost!! So.....to......Mr Terry Smith out of West Virginia who trades on eBay under -vinyl2-, a thunderous round of applause from the Moore household in appreciation of your customer service policy. Living proof that some guys still know how to do "the right thing". In appreciation I too have done the right thing and ripped his check up. I got the record, he got the money. S'how it's supposed to work right? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com The 45 in question was that great Detroit double sider: Dee & Joe Who's It Gonna Be b/w I Found A Love - Jubilee W/Demo
  13. Very very sad. Condolences to all Nige's family and friends. Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  14. Cheers Dave, Scan arrived. Sent mail to say thanks, but it bounced. Regards, Dave ww.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  15. Cheers Simon. Bob on! Many Thanks. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  16. Dave, Could I ask a massive favour. Could you scan the photo and send it me Mate? info@hitsvillesoulclub.com Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  17. I doubt whether this young lady realised the effect she would still have on an old soulie 40 years later! https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Deena_Johns...aking_Point.ram Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  18. Thanks, much obliged. Which one is Tarnopol? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  19. Hi Dave, Thanks for the tip.... My copy of Tony Douglas' book only goes up to 271! I have the paperback. Is the hardback from 2001 different? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  20. Hi Sean, That was my thinking. You'd think so, but there's no pic of Tarnopol in it. (Must be the only pic missing!) The hunt continues! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  21. Yep, Freddie Gorman wrote the song. His solo Ric Tic outings are amongst the milestones of Detroit Soul. Very sad to say that coincidentally, Freddie passed away a couple of days ago. RIP Mr Gorman. Job Well Done Sir! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  22. Hi all, Once again my colection lets me down! Could some kind soul send me a scan of Jackie Wilson - I've Lost You - Brunswick at 300dpi? to info@hitsvillesoulclub.com Also....has anyone got (or can point me in the direction of), a pic/photo of Nat Tarnopol. I've been looking for months and can't trace a pic of him. I remember somewhere that I've seen a pic of him and Jackie together but can't remember where I've seen it. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  23. Aha! Another Ollie Fan! I have all of his stuff with Deon Jackson and none of it is expensive or particularly rare. As far as I'm aware it was never booted either. The Carla Records by DJ are all on the Red label variants. A quick serach of gemm or ebay should throw up results for you. As far as recomendations are concerned, try this link here https://www.hitsvillesoulclub.com/articles/art001/art001.html for an intro to Ollie's work which includes DJs stuff as well, but basically you can't go wrong with any DJ track, he didn't make a bad one. If you like Deon's stuff then the rest of the labels' soul output is certainly worth investigating, there's some fantastic music on the labels. He also has an LP of Detroit songs that's worth having. Once again, not rare at all. I think Deon Jackson is currently living in Memphis. If anyone has any contact details I'd appreciate them. Hope this helps. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. You've made my day with this post! Strange how it's the little things that put a spring in an ole soulies step eh?
  24. Might be a little obvious but.....Mongo Santamaria did some fantastic upbeat soul tinted work. Getting It Out Of My System - Columbia is a great Northern instrumental with a latin influenced hint to it. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  25. Really happy memories now of this 45. I took it with me to the Cleft Club and ended up singing it a cappella with Billy Jackson on the street corner. He still knew EVERY word! We then went through the Tymes "Northern" discography with the guys, Billy, Dave Fergie and I all singing a cappella. One of the highlights of my collecting life. All on tape too! Great record. Real "Fanfare" intro and then they just sweep you up amongst it all. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
