  7. Sure is. Another underated slick handed Jazz cat turned soul musician. Can anyone ID the sax player who played the opening refrain on the video? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbreat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  8. Check out the bass player and the guy bangin' the bongo skins......How much would you pay to see this trio peform live nowadays. Seen this video before, and in my opinion it should be lodged with the Smithsonian. The consumate perrformance by musical ICONS. FANTASTIC. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  9. This throws up more questions about the "access" to the music. Be interested to find out other "Soul-Sourcers" views on this issue. Apologies if this topic has already been done, if so can someone link me to the thread? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  10. For free or the subscription type? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  11. Hi Billy, Surely the question is about the influence of Motown? Not so much the similarity in sound. Just looking at the people who transited through the company from it's early beginnings through to it's halycon days is proof enough of the influence. Many went on to become legendary figures in black music. Granted there are a lot of great records without a Motown connection, but I would venture that no other company/group of labels can match Motown's contribution to "Northern Soul. Which other label has had full alighters of it's music played? Surely there's no dispute that Motown was the most "influential" of the sixties soul labels that became revered on the Rare/Northern Scene? 12. Also one here Mike: /index.php?showtopic=31171 Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  13. Hi all, Firstly, Big Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and good luck messages, both on and offlist. It's appreciated believe me. The magazine's website is now fully functional and everything has been double checked. People can feel confident in ordering through the site's direct PayPal facility. www.theresthatbeat.com I still have 3 spaces (free!) for event flyers if anyone wants to fill them. Or if anyone has a sales list etc they want to publicise send me a scan of anything at 300dpi and I'll try and fit it in. (Remember the mag is out in Sept so the events must be Sept - Dec). Once again, big thanks to all and hopefully the shirt will stay on my back! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. Just am update on the hitsville website for ya....Pete Fowler has a great Record Review up, There's a weekend with Dean Courtney feature too. As usual with histville, you can see and play all the records. ENJOY.

  15. Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, hopefully the website and the mag will grown in tandem. The mag will be sold to UK via the website so if folks email the mag about ordering copies or taking out a subscription Bev will reply to all the enquiries. If anyone has any events happening between Sept - Dec and wants a free ad space send me a flyer scanned at 300dpi and I'll try and fit it in. There are a few spaces left. Regards, www.hitsvillesoulclub.com www.theresthatbeat.com

  17. Dont doubt what your saying Mate at all. Just puzzling that the minimum charge I can provide is so much higher than someone else in the same country. There's no doubt that the cost of postage here in the US is generally higher than in UK. The Scandanavians are in an even worse position. The next hike that comes along here in the US is going to push my shipping charges to $7.00 for 1 x 45. Seems expensive when you can send the same package the other way for half that I know. It's just the way it is I'm afaid. One silver cloud for UK buyers is the exchange rate though. It's killing us over here. I've stopped buying ANYTHING from UK at the moment. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  18. $3.35 for a 45 to UK from US? Airmail? I can't send a 45 for less than $5.00!! How's he doing that? I charge $6.00 to UK because top post a WELL PACKED 45 in a professional mailer with stiffeners costs 5.25 plus the cost of the packaging (80c), So I'm losing 5c on each package. I'd love to know how someone get do it for 3.35! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com .
  19. All cheap. Thanks for looking. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com https://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay...me=STRK:ME:LNLK
  20. Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes - The Love I Lost and Satisfaction Guaranteed Candi Staton - Suspicious Minds OJays - Backstabbers Bit predictable I know but.....IYAMWOTIYAM! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  21. Which GW are you after. I'm also a few short, we maybe able to help each other out? Offlist if you prefer. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  22. He He! Ask Mark Bicknell about record shops and flea markets! I remember having this discussion with you Russ as you arrived. Thrift store finds are few and far between Mate. Even most dealers have now become off limits for me due to the fact that they think all the records marked at 20UKP in JMs book are ACTUALLY worth that amount. I end up leaving stuff now that 5 yeras ago I would have swept up for a buck and sold for 5 bucks. Having trawled Bananas etc in Florida 20 years ago I can't be arsed paying $15.00 for $20.00 45s. Just not worth it. Have you tried the obvious: Ad in local paper (Had 2 results in 10 years) Actually setting up a Record Fair yourself At least your further up North where there's more locations to go at. You wanna try it here in the land of the coffin dodgers! Bring some $$$ to Hitsville Weekender in September and we'll see what we can find. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  23. I'd get shut now then and buy 5 decent 45s with the Profit!. Truly awful record. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
