"this Gets To Me"pookie Hudson
Ken, No "expert" on pressings but as far as I know it only ever booted/pressed on a red/black copy. The original demo is black and white and the stock issue is the normal white/sandy coloured label so familiar on Jamie. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

En Route as we speak. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.itsvillesoulclub.com- Oldest Swinger In Town
She was in NJ in April. Looked like she was having a great time! And why not? It's an "old" saying but there's a lot of sensible "old" sayings "You're as old as yer feel!" Therefore Styrene 45 and I are both 21 and looking forward to our parties! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- There's That Beat

Sorry Lads, But I tried. I listened to every version, really tried to find something to like....but failed miserably. I just don''t get it. It sounded like elevator muzak. Sort of nondescript disco gubbins. The word used to describe this in the opening post was "awesome". I now accept that I ain't never gonna get it. PERIOD. And of course Theres's That Beat! Still have a few left of Issue One... www.theresthatbeat.com Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Price Guides
Pete, Just for interest sake... The way "Hits" are recorded I think is that when someone clicks on a page ALL the assets on that particular page are counted, therefore if you click on a page with 50 pictures on it, each picture represents a "hit". That's how I had my stats explained to me. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com www.soulclub.com- Collecting Tamla Motown Demos
Hi Guys, I'm a bit rushed here a the moment but I'll dig a few bits out later and try to contribute more. The Dalton Boys on VIP colored Demo is not particularly hard. The VIP colored Demos seem to be easier to come accross than the Gordy ones for some inexplicable reason. I just sold a Lollipops Double sided colored Demo to Mike Wilks. That is the hardest one in my experience. (Out of the ones I know of at least). Tone I never realised the West Coast copies had the Matrix #s on the labels before!! Doh! Thanks for the tip. Rod, Good luck with the job hunt Mate. Hope you land something soon. I suspect the Dore version of Needle In A Haystack may well have a sixties "feel" to it and that the Soul Clock version (Which I have somewhere) is slanted a little more "modern. (Argghhh!! There I said it!) I'll keep an eye out for the Dip etc. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Yate, Just A Distant Memory ?
He He! I still don't get his rules! For me the quinessential Yate sound was Flame n King and The Bold Ones - Oh Happy Day - NYSC https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Flame'n...h_Happy_Day.ram Probably cos this is where I first heard it. Seem to remember it was covered as The Carstairs at one point? Took this back to Burnley. Went MASSIVE. Great record. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Us 6ts Company Sleeves
Hi Nick, It's basically anything that is vintage 60s I'm interested in. I live amongst the US record fairs etc and can pick upmost of the regular stuff but the Jamie Guyden FULL RED one has eluded me. If you have any doubles or when you're at Tim's come across anything "hard" that you already have I'd appreciate a knock Mate. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Collecting Tamla Motown Demos
Hi bri, What makes you suspect that? Have to say the color on the Gordy coloured label is always a little deeper. brighter so it looks like they may well have all come from the same place? You may well be right, I just wondered if you had any terms of reference. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- When Did Soul Music Start ?
Yep, the musicians were definitely steeped in jazz traditions. As far as the geography is concerned Ijust used Detroit as a yardstick for the era. Chicago could have fitted the bill with the early Impressions stuff etc. I think trying to pinpoint a particular artist or even a particular record is difficult. I would have thought that HB Barnum, Teddy Randazzo, along with Otis Blackwell, Janie Bradford etc, could well stake a viable claim to have developed a "soul sound" . Another thread in the tapestry would be acts like Hank Ballard, Jackie Wilson, The Platters maybe they're also in with a shout? Sure there's lots more. Good thread. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoullcub.com- When Did Soul Music Start ?
Great question Dave. We best define the phrase "soul music" first though or someone will be claiming it all started in biblical times! For me I think the birth of what I would class as "soul music" was that transitional sound that was forged from Rock n Roll (The real stuff), and the RnB sound of the post war era. I suppose for me "sound wise" it's Billy Davis and Berry Gordy, really late 50s/really early 60s stuff pioneered by The Satintones, The Falcons, et all. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Wanted Whispers On Dore
Hi Rod, You've probably seennit already, but just in case: https://cgi.ebay.com/Northern-Soul-The-Whis...1QQcmdZViewItem Think a couple of The Dip are also knocking around on Ebay. Didn't Shifty have one last week? Might be worth a punt. I saw the Needle In A Haystack last week. Don't see it too often though. I've never actually heard it on this label, is it the same take as the Soul Click copy? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Us 6ts Company Sleeves
Nick, You got any "unusual ones"? Most of what you've lited are pretty common labels, but had different designs. You got a full RED Jamie Guyden? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com - There's That Beat
