  6. Kev, I know the feeling! I once went through an airport security point (may have been Atlanta), with a box of 200 45s. All flight cased up, pretty obvious they were "fragile goods". Anyway , the moron at the checkpoint asks "What 's in the box?" Records I tell her. "Open it up please?" Certainly says I...I opens the case and she immediately grabbed about 15 45s from the front of the case and proceeded to BEND them!! Why? I have no idea, but the Vulcan Death Grip I had on her wrist just as my Palmer Demo copy of Al Williams was about to snap probably alerted her to the fact that I was "not best pleased"! She then starts with the old "assault" waffle. Must admit at this stage ...the mist came down and I explained to her that she was extremely lucky that she hadn't bent them any more as if they had snapped she would have now been lying on the floor in exactly the same number of peices as my records were in! Needless to say uniforms were called and I was put in the tank to rethink the error of my ways, reassess my attitude towards public servants and was duly reprimanded by a useless donut eating weevil before being sent on my way with a the following maxim resounding in my ears.."This is America Sir, we don't treat people like that!" Yeah.....tell it to the Red Indians Mate!...... Eeeeh! Sorry for the rant but I feel better now I've got that offa my chest! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  7. Happens every now and then. Price you pay for insuring international stuff Mate. Customs and Excise are supposed to check a certain percentage of arriving parcels, looks like you were one of the unlucky ones. An alternative is to pay for "International Signed For" if your concerned about the seller, but then of course that doesn't give you any insurance against damage. Also...the fact that it is noted as a 'gift' means nothing in terms of Customs and Excise. Of course another way to look at it is to celebrate the fact that you haven't been "kippered " on all your previous purchases! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  8. Hey Mel, What is it about you and the features in "There's That Beat!" Mate? The March Issue has a major feature on The Pittsburgh - Steel City scene. It was pushed back from the upcoming issue due to lack of space. Lots of scans of local labels, records that were big on the scene there, (which mirrored the Rare Soul scene in Uk up to a point), plus local artist photos. If you find anything unusual on your trawl we can alays make rom for it Mate. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  9. Thats the bugger! Cheers Pete , been driving me mental all afternoon. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  10. Wasn't there another version of (Genie) this found amongst the Solid Hitbound stuff Martin Koppell sifted in the 90s? Can't remember the details now...Altzheimers playing up again, but seem to have some recollection it? Regards , Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  12. Is ANYONE still finding ANYTHING in shops/stores nowadays? I know that the majority of stores I've used over the past 20 years have either disappeared or have gone the route of CDs and Ebay. In fact one store I frequent runs a mail order business where he simply answers the phone, checks his database for the required track, checks his inventory for the relevant CD and ships it out. Hey Presto...customers don't even come in the store anymore! I know a number of my old haunts where the store owner/vinyl monkey simply sits next to the computer with a "guide" loading stuff onto Ebay whilst their shelves are stocked with a. Crap b. Collectables and Ripete c. Poor condition 45s Be interesting to hear some of the "bigger" dealers thoughts on this. I know that most guys who pass through my neck of the woods are looking for "people" not stores or warehouses any more. Regards , Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  19. Also...people may wanna flip Ray Paige's version of ANSLITOS for a wonderful beat ballad of the highest order. Top notch, perfect example of the slower style of "Northern Soul" that more and more folks are appreciating nowadays. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  23. About 15 years ago was walking round an open air market market in Auburndale, Florida when we stopped to look at some Jack Russell pups that were for sale. The "stall" was a makeshift pet shop of sorts. Anyway , whilst we're looking I spies a buch of 45 on Coral Demos just lying there in a box. "How much for the 45s?" asks I. "50cents apiece" comes the reply. I duly paid the guy and took 17 demos (MINT) or Patti Austin's "Take Away The Pain Stain" back to Burnley Bank Hall Miners and sold 'em for a couple of beers each! How'd they end up there, still sleeved, minters too? No idea! Never even had a record stall on that market. Never has. Happy days. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
