Dave Moore posted up the below on forum, already been posted three or so weeks ago but does seem that help is still needed Today was a good day for soul queen Sugar Pie DeSanto. She could laugh a little, even talk about the fire without crying. She may have wakened her manager with a panicked phone call around 5 that morning, but she was OK for now Anyone wanna help? Christmas coming , lots of gigs happening in UK, maybe a donation bucket or two or something? I'm not sure? Somebody oughta do something though eh ...if not us ...then who? I'm happy to ad minister a fund or something through There's That Beat. In fact I'll kick it off....here's a hundred bucks. second post We've set something up to see if people wanna help. If every soul fan donated the price of one Christmas drink, this lady's plight would be eased immensely. Any help greatly appreciated. http://www.theresthatbeat.com/sugarpie.html Regards , Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Hi Mike, Monies were duly despatched to the fund set up for her. I'm taking the same route with the fund we have opened. (See other thread). I'll let the thread run week with later bump if you don't object , then close it and keep folks updated on what happened to their donations. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Hi Neil, Yep I reckon your right. I've never seen either although I've "heard" of them. Anyone seen a Bobby Paris Demo? Also, Fathers Angels Issue - How hard? (I got your Demo at Blackburn about 8 years ago, you still have the issue? I've only ever seen a couple.) Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Hi Simon, Mr Clinton was/is a classically trained white singer/songwriter/keyboard player and the ABC LP that spawned "Please Don't Run" was the first his band (The George Clinton Band), released. The band was a large 10 piece outfit that included a full 5 piece horn section. Before creating the band ('74) he had worked with Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Donny Hathaway and Johnny Mathis so his soul credentials are there for all to see. He is a native from Chattanooga, Tennessee who worked in Nashville as a studio player in the 60s and joined a group called Timber. (Elektra Records). He moved to LA in 69 and his producer was non other than Mr Jerry Fuller. The track "Please Don't Run.." is a brilliant piece of artistry imo. Upbeat, almost manic horns that contains one of the top 5 tenor sax solos on a dance record for me. Brilliant stuff! For those that know me well...this is the record that the late and lamented Alan Hughes and I used to play the "air" sax to! Ah ...Happy days indeed! Hope this helps. Hi Maverick, Is that a typo because NO WAY can I ship a 45 to UK from the US for $1.70. (Unless 70c is used to feed the pigeon on route!) Most US dealers are now feeling then pinch on postage and although I still charge $5.00 I lose out about 60c. so am gonna have to up it . $1.70!! It would be cheaper for me to send it to you and pay you to ship them! How you sending them? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Pete , Happened to me last week. Paid it but let the guy know I knew what he was playing at. Won't use again. The list of "Dave's blackballed Ebayers" grows daily! Plenty of others out there "playing the game" properly, I'll stick with them. Good thing for me that I still need 10000 45s to complete! Next one's just round the corner! Hi Mate, As far as I can make out, the rift came about when the guys were in Europe last time. They split with their manager Allan Slutsky and subsequently split into the two factions. Babbit is still playing and has just published a book whilst Joe Messina retired after the guys won their long overdue Grammys. So..in terms of actual "original" band members it would seem that The Funks as a relatively complete entity will never be seen (or heard) on the same stage again. Sad but true. I would have thought that Jack and Joe had every right to present themselves as Funk Brothers though. When you take into account The Temptations and more recently The Four Tops line ups (great singers though they are), at least J and J were in at the beginning as "original" members. I've tried to stay up to speed with the members as they are my musical heroes but it's difficult when "personalities" come into it. So to anyone thinking of not attending any of the gigs because it's not the "real Funks" I would say this.....Joe Hunter tickled the ivories on some of the greatest songs to ever be recorded in Detroit and Mr Ashford's tambourine and vibraphone breathed excitement into the some of the Snakepit's truly memorable peformances. That's how I'll always view them, it would be churlish not to. The musicians they have put together are some of the best in the land. The youngsters they have touring with them have been handpicked by them. Give them a chance.....I'm sure you won't regret it. If someone had suggested that Jack Ashford and Joe Hunter would be playing live in UK 20 years ago, we'd never have believed it......ENJOY! Regards , Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Have to admit , I take much more care nowadays with my 45s. It's something that will eventually effect buying records too. Many record sellers don't play their sales but rather rely on a visual inspection. This can lead to dramas. I've had a few Styrene through that have had to be returned. Many part time sellers (Ebay etc) are not even aware of the Styrene issue so even if it it plays with the beginning of Styrene hiss they don't mention it. Hopefully I'll expire before the Styrene does! Regards , Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

To be honest, I got the soundfile from somewhere and I have a vague memory of it being on a CD but I may be wrong. Obviously somebody liked it if they were asking about whether it was available. How about posting us up something you like?
