  1. Hi Lenny, Rob did a great feature in the last issue of Theres That Beat! about the Just Brothers. He's done an equally great piece on the late great Emanuel Laskey in the upcoming Issue too. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub .com
  2. Used to have a nice White Polydor Demo of this. Can't remember where it is now! Came out on a nice White Demo (Thomas) with a cool, groovy lookin' pic sleeve too. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  4. Thanks guys. I'd heard the story of T Hestor being killed but never had it confirmed. Dave T - Thanks for the update on Popcorn. Seems at one stage half the records played at our house had their illustrious names on them somewhere! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  5. Tommy, I have this also. In fact I think there were a series of them. I suspect they were produced to "plug " the artists back catalogue when Motown were reduced to pushing out the 'bargain bin' stuff in US record stores. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  6. Mr Wylie is still around in Detroit although sadly not in the best of health. Hopefully some can update us on his wellbeing as there are regular visitors through there from UK and US. Tony Hestor is a quandry to me. Maybe someone on here knows where he is, if he's still around? Rob M? Dave T? Mike Terry - Huge contribution to rare soul, not just Detroit but much more far reaching. He features in The Pied Piper Story created by Eddie Hubbard in the next Issue of There's That Beat! (Out on Tuesday!) We're also hoping to feature his personal story in Issue #4. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  10. Hi Mikey, I always thought "You Better Believe It" was actually a 'patriotic' song not an anti-war song. Hence the initial intro taken from "The Halls Of Montezuma" the US Marine Corps Anthem. Great group The Charades. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub .com

She cut a few sides for him Twirl and Impact before moving to Motown when Harry took over there at the Creative Divison. S he is in fact PJ of 'Tender Lovin ' Care' (Ta mla) fame. Bit of a looker. She passed away in 2000. Harri still well and living in Detroit. Nice piccie of them together in Issue #2 of Theres That Beat! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub .com
  18. Karen, Go to www.soulfuldetroit.com and click on Johnnie Mae Mathews you'll find Graham Finch's great story of the life of the great lady. If you've only just discovered JMM you 're in for a real treat. She was singer /songwriter/producer /entrepreneur and among her claims to fa me are that she managed/produced the first records on the Temptations early line up as well as Edward Hamilton. Graham's piece is the dogs danglies. Think you 'll enjoy it . Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

  22. It's been done before. Ebay will clock you, remove your items and ban you. It's been going on for yeras especially with things like musical instruments from Japan. ie. Item worth $500 starts at 10c but the postage is $500.00. Pete - It 's a way of avoiding the fees. Ebay semt out a warning last year to everyone who was doiung it . Some still try to get through, but Ebay will ban you if they catch you. Ebay....losing it's sheen by the day. Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  23. Good Luck with the new site Kev. Looking forward to seeing yet another brick in the US based "soul wall". Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  24. I always understood that the Thunderbird issue was done by the owner to cash in on the popularity of the track in UK too. Not sure about the Black Magic issue being the catalyst but it sounds plausible. I was also told recently that the Black Magic UK issue was actually LEGAL. Never seen a W/Demo of OOTF, but Man...that'd look nice eh? Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
