  1. I rest my case. More 'DJ' arrogance.
  2. It's a great song and their version is a good one in my opoinion. There are two variations on the label. One has a smaller font than the other as far as the HMC letters are concerned. Not to sure whether the smaller font label ones are a repro of the large one but literally hundreds turned up about 8/9 years ago from the Carolinas. I was offered a box of 100 at a record show in Tampa. If they got this far south then it's a fair bet everyone got them. The Bobby Patterson also came out twice, once on regular black vinyl and once with yellow wax. Strange thing about Bobby's Jet Star stuff eh. All on both colored waxes. No red, blue or green, just yellow. Think he had a 'thing' for the color?
  3. As someone who knows diddly squat about Ska, Rocksteady, etc I'm looking forward to an education. Great addition I think.
  4. Great stuff.
  5. You sure about that Russ? I don't remember that at all. The last Demo I saw sold was 2200UKP. That was well over 2 years ago. 700 quid? Surprised he still ain't got the teethmarks in his wrist!
  6. I offered 3300 about 4 years ago and was beaten to it. Only ever seen a couple. Both were scruffy looking but played without the jump. Cue Pedro?
  7. And succeeded admirably by the look of it! Boots v Originals....zzzzzz. Been raging since Sam were a lad. No different to playing an EMI disc from back in the day. Wrong according to real collectors/DJ ethics I agree, but there'll never be any stopping it whilst the real motivation behind many people getting into collecting is to be a "DJ". ie. most 'DJ' types nowadays. Taking another DJ's 45 off the Technic whilst it's still playing though? Did you ACTUALLY do that James? I remember you posting a similar thread last year but it turned out you didn't actually take the 45 off whilst it was still playing. Be interesting if you did to know wat the DJ's reaction was. I know a few guys that would react rather 'strongly' if it happened to them.
  8. Didn't someone from the Far East boot the Ric Tic tracks on CD last year? Is this the same source?
  9. One that stands out for me as being 'different ' to the norm at the time is: Bobby Franklin - Ladies Choice - Fee Never really 'got' the funk thing but this and 7DL have always remained favourites.
  10. Pic of the group in Issue #2 of There's That Beat! I've seen two pics of them, one as a trio and one as a quartet. I think the trio simply had the fourth member 'cut off". They were in US dress uniforms.
  11. Pete, Never had one personally. Of either JD or SW. Demos plenty but never a stocker.
  12. Sam Williams - Produced by the late great Johnny Brantley, who's full story is told in the latest issue of There's That Beat! - https://www.theresthatbeat.com
  13. This is Leonardo. He's the guy that I'm working with to try and locate Lanie Hill and Kenny Wells. He wrote the Dynovoice feature for the latest issue of There's That Beat! I'm sure someone out there must remember who they were. Can't find any other recordings by them at all. Maybe psuedonymns? The hunt goes on...
  14. Chalky, You got a contact for Gary Knight? Or a lead I can pursue? Reckon Tracy Dey could be Lanie Hill? Didn't she also do something on Mala?
  15. Not 100% sure but hoping to make Guy's 50th do and maybe another couple of gigs in Nov. I'll drop you a line when it's all confirmed Mate. Meanwhille, take it easy, ships'll still sail whether you're on 'em or not. Bev sends her love.
  16. If all the guys mentioned wrote a book about their exploits and you could only buy one, which one would it be? For me personally it's no contest. - John Anderson.
  17. Oi! Get back in yer bed yer sick chit! Your obviously not fully recovered. Of course musicians 'breathe' soul into music. Check out MikeTerry's performance on The Appreciations on Aware, The vibes supplied by Jack Ashford on Volcanos - Laws Of Love or take a listen to the guys playing on Marvin's - What's Going On. Glad to see you up and about Matey.
  18. It's not her. At least I'm pretty sure it isn't. I'll report back when I have confirmation.
  19. Seb's right, Some Radio stations kept a close eye on their DJs playlists due to the 'Payola" scandals as well. Many DJ's became embrioled in Record Companies, started their own or became partners with record companies. The whole scenario was open to abuse. The whole success of a record "back in the day" was dependent on airplay. DJ's were pretty powerful people back then. Much better if the promotion guy turned up with 5 records on different labels, even if they were from the same parent company.
  20. Sorry Mate, No spare (I wish). Bit of ring wear but minty vinyl. Timeless dancer. What it used to be ALL about, records like this.
  21. Excellent. Cheers Mate. I'll pass the info along to someone local in LA who will be very pleased to speak to her. Made my day this has. Cheers again.
  22. Dave, Is this the same person who recorded the New Voice 45 as Lanie Hill though?
