  3. Hi Doug, Stop bootlegging and I'll willingly sign your petition.
  4. Yep, you're right. Could be another John Atkinson. I've edited the reference to him accordingly.
  5. JOHN - PAY THE GUY HIS MONEY YOU TIGHT GIT! YOU MADE A MISTAKE - DO THE RIGHT THING AND PUT IT RIGHT.
  6. Even if the seller made a genuine mistake - FULL REFUND is the ONLY action he should take. Advertised as original. It's not - simple. Full refund or name and shame so we can avoid him.
  7. I'll STILL take the skip Cunningham at 20 inc postage to UK.
  8. Don't wish to get involved in a slanging match. What people do and how they do it is their business. Perhaps someone from the 'organisation' that is asking for our support could elaborate on their bootleg policy. Not just playing them but 'make your own CDs' in a completely bogus/sly way that tries to slip the copyright issues.
  9. Same people who operate the Bootlegging site on the other (Charity Auction) thread. Can't sign I'm afraid. Bootleggers are bootleggers no matter how they dress their event up. Sorry.
  10. Chalky, Just checked my notes and you're right. The other pic is of three members and it's the same pic that shows four of them but has been cropped. The pic of three is in Issue #2 of There's That Beat! I've posted it below. I think the pic of four that this is cropped from is in the liner notes of Hadleys CD actually which I appear to have given away.
  11. I think there's a ballad version of Need A Helping Hand on Hadley Murrell's CD. (Unless I've heard it somewhere before - I tend to buy CDs, listen to 'em once and then stash 'em ). There's also some question as to whether there were four or five members of the group. I've seen pictures of four and five but I believe it was the same picture but cropped. Still not been verified. Anyone?
  12. May well be right as far as the JM is concerned as far as price is concerned but I think they're both available in the same quantity. Certainly seen quite a few of each over the years. Demo collectors eh??
  13. Took me longer to find the MINT Demo of BM. Had a few issues, two demos but only one MINTER on Demo. 45 that's hard to find in the right condition imo. If anyone has the Map Design US 45 on MINT W/DEMO I'd be interested too.
  14. Is the cover actually a pic of Al Gardner? Has anyone EVER seen a pic of Al Gardner apart from the one on the Gooda Mooga pic sleeve? I know there have been a couple of people trying to find out who/where Mr Gardner was/is but to no avail. Many of the Detroit artists from back in the day have been asked but no one seems to remember him. Any info gratefully received. TTB! #8 at the printers and should hit the streets shortly.
  15. Jimmy Mack - I wouldn't have thought there was much in it. Barbara McNair - Demo harder, especially in MINT.
  16. Anyone got any details for Al Gardner? Was a rumour for a while that it may have been Marv Johnson but I'm sure if that had been clarified we'd know all about it. Anyone know where Mr Gardner is? Any history at all?
  17. 45 arrived today Mark. Much obliged, Sir.
  18. Hi Christian, Out of interest was it an orginal stocker? Second issue stocker? W/Demo?
  19. BOOK HIM QUICK! Before he gets snapped up!!
  20. Apologies. Put foot in gob. Have now extracted it.
  21. The magazine is now with the printer. Without relating lots of boring ole pap, suffice it to say that we've had a few problems with this issue but it's all tucked up and safely en route now. Apologies to our subscribers and advertisers for the delay and hopefully it won't detract from your enjoyment of what is a completely RAMMED issue. More scans in this this issue than ever before! Thanks for everyone's patience and I'll update this thread when the website is updated and the mag is ready for shipping.
  22. Dream on mucker! Hope Dave F stayed upright for at least most of the night.
  23. Yeah yeah, but you get the drift. Actually, Karl had booked to come already when I asked him if he wanted to 'play' with us. We invite non UK collector/'DJs' too. This year we'll feature a couple each from US, OZ and Spain. The point I was making is that there are people out there who don't need the 'stage' of a venue or an hour behind some Technics to satisfy their interest in soul records. In fact I think there are plenty of us around all over the world nowadays. From a purely personal perspective I think more collectors behind the Technics is a good thing. I'm not interested in someone being an 'MC' or constantly barking "Let's be havin yer" every other record. Just put the damn things on and I'll judge for myself whether they're any good or not!
  24. I organise one gig a year. I am not the promoter, there is no promotion, it's simply a gathering of like minded people playing their collections and if folks wanna come join us they are more than welcome and we have a fantastic time together every year. Not all of the people who attend are collectors but it's fair to say that most are. But here's the crux.....I get inundated with people from UK who contact me, explain that they are 'DJ's/Promoters' on the UK Northern Soul scene, most are local 'DJs' who play at their own gigs and their Mates, (some of them actually go on to tell me the history of the UK soul scene ), and offer their services as "DJs". Most play the same records as each other, some play boots.carvers etc and most of us could hear their records without leaving our homes. I explain that the event is a group of long time collectors getting together to share their collections over a weekend, in the sun, with great food, wine, and we dance our asses of for 3 days. Inevitably....VERY FEW of the "DJs" who get in touch, once they realise it's not about names on flyers, or playing the latest Frank Popp gubbins, actually want to join us unless they are 'DJing'. What a farce. But of course......"the only reason they set up their own gigs and DJ at them is they do it for the good of the scene, to hear something different and their passion to share the music with others". I would venture that in my experience, if a lot of people weren't DJing at their own gigs, they simply wouldn't DJ anywhere else and therefore their interest/involvement with the music would peter out. I have no axe to grind with 'DJs", some of my close friends are "DJs". It's entirely up to each individual to enjoy the music exactly how they feel it's right for them. How people enjoy their involvement in the soul 'scene' is completely their perogative. But in answer to Des' original question I would answer yes. I think more and more people are driven by attempting to get that 15 minutes of fame by standing behind a set of Technics and not by a love of the music and a passion to enjoy it with like minded people. That's why our particular weekender "DJs" are by invitation only, all attend as listeners first, DJs second and do so at their own expense. Unique? Maybe not, but it certainly lays a foundation for an enjoyable bootleg/pressing/carver free weekend that usually throws up a few 45s that we start chasing the minute the gig ends. This years "DJ's" from UK include Dave Greet, Dave Ferguson, Howard Griffin, Alan Pollard, Karl Heard, Russ Vickers, and Chris Dalton. You won't see their names on flyers every weekend at local "dos", or indeed at many national events, but I think it's fair to say that they reflect the ethos of what is best about both the collecting scene and the passion that comes with it when asked to 'DJ'.
  25. PM'd you - Had no reply.
