  1. Now gone (Traded for Kittens Three on Newark). Thanks for the interest. Might shift the other one if anyone else is interested in a similar trade.
  2. Copies of these were in soul packs from Tim Brown circa 1995/6? Just had a dig around but can't find mine. I seem to remember W/Demo of this too. Anyone confirm?
  3. You're very welcome.
  4. Hi Joe, Yep same. White on one side and orange on one side.
  5. Have a spare of this if anyone interested. Picking up plays, great version. Not looking for anything ridiculous, but if Kings Go Forth is 60 UKP, then what price a demo of this beauty? Don't see many W/Demos at all. 45 is a strict VG+ with the odd mark, but plays as pristine. Would prefer a trade if possible but would consider 150UKP if cash.
  6. PS. If a dealer had invested 50UKP and then sold them a few days later for 250 it would have been branded as good business. As Albert says....'What's the difference?' The ridiculous situation lies with the people who buy the latest 'item' on the tail of a load of pretty 'transparent' hype surely?
  7. I think the real culprits of thgis type of 'feeding frenzy' are the lunatics that fuel this type of panic buying of The Emperor's New Clothes. Sheer lunacy, but then over the last few months I've come to finally admit that there's no rhyme or reason for a lot of the record collectors behaviour. Albert has done nothing that many on here also do as a matter of course. What happened to the constant bleating of "A record is only worth what some will pay?" Isn't this a prime example of that quote? Alternatively the cry of "supply and demand dictates the price". Well there's plenty of supply to meet the demand for this from what I could make out a few weeks ago, so that theory is out of the window too." Lunatics have taken over the asylum.
  8. Hi Ian, Rod Shard had a Lost and Found for sale a while back (Modernsoulsucks on here). Might be worth giving him a shout? Good luck with the Tony Clarke, I've been looking for a decent copy for over 20 years! Haven't given up hope yet though..
  9. Lou Ragland - I Travel Alone - Amy
  10. Agree with Dave T and Steve L. For many of us I suspect that due to the sheer excitement of the place, it was probably the best. But then that was partly due to other things as well as the music. The size of it, the style of it, the fact that most of us were 'youngsters' who were part of a large but still relatively "underground' scene. The music has certainly been as good at other venues, both before and since it closed, for sure. I never did the Wheel and have heard great tales of nights there, and so for sheer excitement level, sustained over the whole allnighter, the Casino for me stands alone. I think the animosity comes when people want to turn the current scene into an 'Casinofest' of 70s memories. Great memories they are....but that's what they are, memories. I don't think that the Casino's atmosphere could ever be repeated nowadays as it was a 'time and place' thing as Dave T remarked. And for me. the record bar was like nothing ever since. 1000s of 45s being bought, sold, traded, talked about. All at 100mph! Great stuff. I suppose the litmus test for me is..."If I could have one more night in any event/gig I've attended in the last 30 years, where would it be?" Casino - Hands down every time.
  11. Hi Blake, Be best to avoid the Hitsville Weekender Mate. We have a fantastic time but there's very little 'moddun' played. 70s - yep, and some crackers, but the music is predominantly 60s. Although we're planning an afternoon of midtempo magic at the BBQ on Sunday. Hope you find a great gig that gives you what you want. Many of European Events are certainly 'maturing' into 'must gos'.
  12. I bought a demo last year. Paid $1000. Record arrived with 5 mahoooosive gouges in the B side. Had to send it back. What is it they say?....If it sounds too good to be true......it's usually too good to be true.
  13. Good thread chaps. Lot's of good opinions and inputs. Not sure we got the answer, to the original question, but never mind, at least from my perspective I've a better idea about where my 'prices' fit in the equation and why I price most records somewhat cheaper than many UK collectors AND we avoided the OVO v CDs and Oldies v Newies debate! I've now revised my price on the KCPs. I've got it down as 40 quid now. Bogue.....tekachillpillMate. It ain't the cure for cancer, it's some old farts chattin' about rekkids.
  14. Thing is, anyone can recount incidents referring to individual records, and traipse out lots of overused cliches. But that wasn't really the thrust of my point. I suppose at the end of the day people buy records for a myriad of reasons, and a myriad of prices. I was mainly commenting on how/why do people on here quote 'seen at 100', or 'More than that now, Dave' when the example I used (KCPs) shows that those type of comments are in no way an accurate reflection on what the 45 can be found for. We have 3 at 40 and Pete's sale at 60. Lets average that out and we come to - 45. So, by the same people's analysis the KCPs current price (in VG+), should be 45. John's price of 100 doesn't enter the equation because the original question was 'What would be a realistic price I could get this 45 for?' It didn't say 'I am in hurry to get this 45 and don't care what it costs to own - I HAVE to have it and have it NOW and I will, with my bulging credit card!' I said 30, the other concensus was 100. I rest my case M'lud. I suppose we just live in different worlds. Enjoyed the input, just a bit of banter about these likkleblackplastikfingswotweluvsntreshures eh?
  15. Hi Kev, I understand what your saying and that's maybe where my theory falls down. I buy records I like based on one criteria...how often does it show? That's it. I'm not influenced by what other people pay for their records, it's not really a reflection of how hard the 45 is to find. After buying records for so many years I've built up enough confidence in my own knowledge and experience to make that call. Granted, that's only good for me. Maybe that's why I keep raising my eyebrows at some of the prices quoted (NOT paid), on the Sales or Look In Your Box Forums.
  16. Some good input so thanks for the interest. I think John's way of pricing his stock is the only one to use a sort of historical/factually based data system and fair play, for his business that's a must. But by the same token, it only applies to the 45s that John sells surely because his other credentials and business savvy have resulted in John being the 'leader of the pack' and able to command prices that reflect this. Other sellers can't achieve the same sale price. Does anyone doubt that the 100 he could maybe achieve for a copy of KCPs would be impossible on a set sale list posted on here? I found two copies at 40, someone else bought one for 40 recently off Adam, so how come it's a given that it's a 100 quidder? I just don't get it. Not looking for any definitive answer, just seems that people pay a lot more for their 45s than I do and therefore they overvalue them in relation to what THEY paid. And not, as should be used what they could realistically sell them for. (Unless of course the people who overvalue them are still buying). Does that make sense?
  17. Just a little experiment here folks. On a few occasions recently someone has aked the 'realistic' price of certain 45s. Been buying/trading/selling the odd 45 for the last 30 years and I've posted what I felt were prices that the 45s could be found for with a little work. On most occasions the person asking comes back and says "I'll have ten at that price" or "lot more than that nowadays, Dave". Well I'm prepared to be corrected, but I just don't believe it most of the time. To check the guides, look on Ebay and use those particular sources of references result in people 'accepting' that the 45 that they want is actually that price, when for people who buy records every day, is simply not true in my opinion. EXAMPLE: Kansas City Playboys - Quittin' Time - Wheelsville For me that's a 30 quidder. Had a few over the years and still have on in my collection - it's a great version. "Ive seen em at 100". Listed or SOLD at 100? That's the difference. "Seen" where? "Seen listed at......" is a waste of words. So, completely unscientific but .....interested to find out what it actually SELLS for so.....has ANYONE paid 100 for the KCPs....EVER? I found two on Popsike at 40 quidish but that was a couple of years ago. Hs it been reactivated since? Has Butch been hammering it? Has a Wheeelsville label collectors club started? If I was to now list that 45 for sale, I would list it 100 and see what happened. See the logic now? Or is it illogical? Someone would have seen my list and then quote on here....I've seen it at 100! If a dealer makes a mark up of even 100% there's no way is a dealer gonna pay 50 quid for the KCPs. If that was the case people would be beating a path to their door with all their 'cheaper' 45s, believe me. Taking into account there seems to be a downturn in the less rarer record prices being achieved (ask anyone who's selling 45s on here), and the whole thing seems to be a house of cards built on sand. So.......who paid 100 for the KCPs? Or is it just a figure in a guide?
  18. Wheelsville. I would have thought 30 squidleys at tops. Great version.
  19. Always thought that the original vinyl release of Lonely Lover was as the flip to the US 12" Motown Demo of World Is Rated X. If so Albert, I have a couple of these and will put one aside for you for September.
  20. I've no axe to grind, I think it's a decent pastiche and certainly rips the tits out of the Duffy palarva even if it falls short of The Daptone's stuff. Think a lot of people bought it with a view to turning a profit on the back of the hype. Only time will tell if it get's hammered but I suspect that some of the lazier type of local DJs will milk it for as long as they can then move on to another 'easy' play.
  21. I reckon you're not too far out Mate as far as true value is concerned. Seen a few at 700 and walked away. Go back later....still there. I'd pay 350 for MINTER and have had that offer turned down a couple of times. No dramas....I'll wait a few years and pick it for even less. Plenty more to keep me hunting/going until then.
  22. Yep, just popped by to say congratulations an a great interview. Enjoyed reading it immensely. Nice one.
  23. In our house there's no such descriptions. We do however have our own descriptions....Guddies and Shyties.
  24. Valid point I reckon. When I started collecting I didn't have a credit card. (Not many did! ) Over the years, I've managed to keep my family finances and my vinyl fund separate. NEVER bought a 45 on a credit card. Can see how that could lead to some disastrous 'deaf and dumb' dinners at home though! I think credit cards and the influx of people who have returned to collecting and want to DJ are two of the main catalysts for the high prices of averagely rare 45s over the last decade or so. With the credit crunch about to bite big time in the next 2 years, maybe we'll see the bubble burst? Can't see why vinyl collecting should be any different from other parts of the economy.
  25. Here's a peek inside this latest issue... ">
