  8. hi jason i would think it can get lonely just being a collector but the beauty of being a collector and into northern modern or any other style in england is that we have the clubs to meet like minded people, and chat to them about records and soul minutae and therefore not bore our partners, but we all have lives outside the scene. my wife and i travel quite a bit and our mutual close firends are not into soul so we spend a lot of time with them, but the only downside to a partner who does not like the same music is you have to keep it to yourself when you do find that bargain, because they do not have a clue and are not interested, like you say they just say something like why waste your money it just sits there in a box just buy it on cd like you say you have to bend and enjoy life. hopr you do come to cleethorpes next year we will have to have a chat have not been to baltimore nearest i have been is annapolis and washington we did a tour around washington and virginia and drove through maryland a couple of years ago. will be in florida next year going to key west for 19 days and then to vegas four 4 days. been to america about 8 times in last 6 years and only been in 3 record shops, mark
  9. very nice sets this i why i rate chris as one of the top dj's around he can play in any room. mark
  10. i have been told by my wife that i am obsessed with records but i hardly drink, never smoked do not do drugs, love northern and crossover and 70's only go out a couple of times a month, never played away, what more do women want, oh forgot i am handsome and debonair as well. as far as i am concerned the soul scene is just like having a hobby. looks like i am a boring record obsessed old fart mark

  14. 8pm- 9am Flirtations- Stronger than her love (festival) Syl Johnson- Do you know what love is (Special Agent) Lee Bates - Why don't you write (Instant) Larry Santos- You got me where you want me (Evolution) Jimmy Bee - If it wasn't for love (20th Century) Deadbeats - No second chance (Strata) Athens Rogues - She could love me (Stop) Johnny Robinson - Gone but not forgotten (Okeh) Duke and Leonard - Just do the best you can (Stomp Town) Margie Hendrix- One room paradise (Mercury) Sandpipers- Lonely too long (Giant) The Stingers _ I refuse to be lonely (Stax) Karmello Brooks- Tell me baby (Milestone) Roosevelt matthews - You got me digging you (King) Bob and Fred- I'll be on my way (Big Mack) to me all of these are well known and i am one of the ones who dissapeared for 12 years i am also one of the ones who goes to most soul nights to hear something new of have not heard for a long time this was why i started in the first place. it seems to be a case to me of always read the instructions first as the flyers seldom lie if it says rare 60's 70's and northern then that is what you will get. as someone who runs a small night that is a rare underplayed 60's and 70's and some 80's night if someone does not enjoy it i would rather they told you than rant about it to the world without giving the promoter a chance to put his point of view. and yes i do also attend oldies nights but my favourite nights are still the rare nights be it northern or crossover or rare 70's Marquee Review- what good tomorrow (Pacific Revue) this is an awesome record especially because i have a copy, have been playing it for about a year. in case you are wondering i run the greatstone hotel stretford manchester with my friend tony and we average about 70 through the door. long live rare soul. mark

  21. having frequented rods shop in aflecks, he said that if he was asked gino would repress things for them so some of the things were probably not pressed till a later day so that is why the numbers may be all over the place. mark
  22. my favourite inst is earl wright thumb a ride and the debate was what instrumental makes you proud to be into northern not what inst is soulful, cos there was an awful lot of non soulful vacals played on the scene. and i still think california montage is the best ending record ever and brings back loads of memories, not soulful but is really catchy like raindrops love and sunshine just a nice poppy tune. mark
