  1. That scan Billytheboot has put up is of the Vault boot. It was also booted on Fat Fish and according to Manship "Bootleg is vinyl with white dj design moulded over label.Original release is styrene with stick on slight gloss finish label.Delta #64378in the run out" The one i have is on the UK fantasy label. Great record though.
  2. Mojo also released a pretty good compilation Lp entitled "Workin" which had a topless black woman on the cover with a snake round her neck . Cant remember the track listing but will dig it out my boxes tomorrow and list what it was here.
  3. I dont want to get involved in the politics side of funk bieng played because I dont really know too much about the subject but a great memory i have was at The Locarno All dayer in Birmingham in the mid/late 70s when one of the Djs in the northern room announced he was going to play a funk track and give it a listen. Everyone got on the full dancefloor sat down and slowly clapped while he played the track and then was greeted by cheering when he said "I think thats enough of that for the time bieng"
  4. Mike , whats gone on the site is a total shambolic mess from what i can see some of the avators are huge and frightening and everything seems in the wrong order!
  5. Its booked at 300 in my old Manships guide.
  6. Had to look twice then thought it read "You're gonna shag her"
  7. What is getting more expensive nowadays , a wedding or a rare soul record. And which one is the better value?
  8. Just tought my wifes name is Dawn and my sons name is Thomas . Both have their name on labels but dont know if the Dawn label released any soul related stuff.
  9. Out on the floor - Dobie Gray.
  10. The obvious one is Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Third finger left hand not only is it perfect for a wedding most people in the room will know it. Craig.
  11. Bought this up earllier in the SSCDT thread and wondered if anyone out there has a label with their name on as I do and one or two others do (and i dont mean written in pen by yourself!) Or if a label can refer to someone as a bit of fun or more sinister. Here were a couple of others. Karen C - Karen. Dave Abbott - Abbot. Soulsville - Jamie & Soul(s)ville
  12. A bit like the Lib - Dem coference thats been on this week.
  13. Just a quick message to say what a great night it was last night at The Wulfrun Hall , Wolverhampton . Great music and atmosphere and The Flirtations looked and sounded absolutley terrific. Anyone else go? Cant wait for the next one. Will post some photos up later. Craig.
  14. Pages of in depth stuff about him here. https://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_..._17/ai_63583958
  15. And me. He'd got more to say than the real one.
  16. Uni 55019. Its o.k but I prefer the flip side "The glide" .It has a nice sax break. Craig.
  17. Bored at the moment so will list my current top 10 tunes that i could listen sing or dance to all day or night. No preferance to anything mega rare , just quality, no particular order. 1. 18. Anything by The Righteous Brothers , big vocals and productions to match. Surely the best non black male duo ever anyway.
  19. Holly St. James - Thats not love - Pure pop pap , and unbearable when everyone claps on the quiet bit . Guaranteed dancefloor filler. This is not northern soul!
  20. Stumbled upon this the other day on a blues , jazz site. It is a 49 minute long programme by John Rhys who spent 7 years in Detroit working with major soul artists. It was obviously recorded a few years ago. He tells you of his recollections and plays some great music too it is an absolutley awsome programme and is well worth listening to. Click on this link. https://www.bluepower.com/show.jsp?id=30 It is easier to use the Mp3 stream as the Realplayer ones seem to struggle to connect.
  21. Eddie Holman - Never gonna give up - Bell. If there is anything sung with more emotion than this I am yet to hear it.
  22. Call me old fashioned but have heard this a million times now but it still sends a tingle down my spine.Northern soul perfection.

  24. Had a phone call a couple of years ago from someone wanting to sell their easy listening Lp collection they had just got down from their loft . Thiought it would be rubbish but had got nothing else to do so went to look anyway. When i got there there were 3 large piles of Lps around 50 in each pile , all almost unplayed original 60s soul and Motown Lps some rare. i was shaking thinking got to buy these whatever the price so popped the question "How much do you want for them " with the reply bieng " I was thinking around £25.00 for the lot" I nearly died , didnt haggle , paid cash. Went straight in my collection.
  25. Managed to squeeze 31 tracks on the cd in the end.Apologies for any lack in quality as i have taken all my tracks off 45s and its my first ever attempt at this sort of thing but have tried it out in my car and it sounds fine. I have also got a few of the track listings in the wrong order but you will soon work it out. It has been a labour of love but worth it. Craig.
