  1. Didnt Dean Parrish do a song about a fish.I think it was called "Skate"
  2. On a purely played out oldies point of view it has to be The Snake , I hate it now but it must of alerted more people to Northern soul than any other. You have to start somewhere.Give this some credit. On the other hand I reckon that if anyone heard Little Anthony & The Imperials singing Better Use Your Head played on any radio station and not Knowing much about soul music, it would make you think bloody hell thats good. Ive heard it a thousand times now but if it was played on the Jonathon Ross show tomorrow on radio 2 for example it would still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
  3. And they were white
  4. I remember his show been on in the background in the 70s and playing Eddie Parker in amongst all that progressive shite , it was either Im Gone or Love you baby (memory's not so good now) and John describing it as "Awesome"
  5. We were having this sutch debate in our house the other night and I am of the opinion that a black soul singer is far superior to a white one anytime.White artists may of made some cracking soul records but in terms of vocals there is generally a great difference.Take 2 of Motowns finest vocalists for example Edwin Starr and Brenda Holloway , there are no white singers who could ever come near to their sublime voices.IMO. <_
  6. This would be a fantastic theme for another CD swap as there are some real treasures lurking on Motown and soul Lps that are little heard. Is it a good idea or what?
  7. Ive got a 45 here in front of me which has come with a job lot I have recieved today by S.S.O which is called Tonights the night on Shady Brook 019 is that the one. It also shite.
  8. Dr Buzzard - Ill play the fool , one of my wifes favourites. I have not heard this played since I was about 16 and wouldnt be bothered if I ever heard it again. Its absolute shite.
  9. I allways remember this off the Jumping at the Go Go Lp I had when I was about 18 or 19 , actually knew all the words to it but struggling to remember them now. " Its like sitting in an oven after turning on the gas , and then lighting up a cigarette just how long can I last" Brilliant!
  10. And a great flipside too in Love (Your pain goes deep). One I heard played recently which I havn't heard for ages was Sleepless Nights by Paris , what great vocals.Allways wanted to know who the lead singer was on this does anyone out there know who it was?
  11. Right then Im off to HMV tomorrow to buy 100 copies
  12. Not on Ebay Karen , look at this! https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...4043510343&rd=1
  13. Just looking through Ebay listings lately and have noticed the Frank Wilson - Chris Clark Do I love you latest re issue 45 fetching £10.00 for buy it now and more at auction. Dont know what this is retailing at elsewhere but what numbers have these been pressed in and is £10.00 a good or bad investment for this 45 in your opinion? TMG 1170 has fetched silly money , so will this do the same thing in a few years?
  14. This is the record I want at my funeral when i pop my clogs. IMO the ultimate farewell record sung with huge emotion and can be picked up for little money.
  15. And is there any chance if you (or anyone else who reckons they have an different take to the release) uploading a recording to Soul source to compare.
  16. Too reet Jot Bo Selecta!
  17. No but Crrrraaaaiig Westwood from Wolverhampton will be
  18. In my experience dont think there is much difference but most seem to have the same songs on both sides for some reason.
  19. Are DJ / Promo copies allways the same take on the song as the standard issue or are there many exceptions to look for?
  20. Everything in my collection.
  21. Ruby Red Records in Cleveland St Wolverhampton. The glass entrance door was allways covered from top to bottom in the latest northern soul records.
  22. Dont you mean "Fucked my tunes" :whistling: My twin BSR decks are an embarresment , got to be 30 years old but sound absolutley brilliant.
  23. How about having a record label scan under each members name starting with Dobie gray - out on the floor for a newbie , then others ascending in order of rarity and value up to Frank Wilson - do i love you for the top poster on here.
  24. Cant say I listen to too much crossover myself but if i had to pick one to sum it up perfectly in my opinion it would be It really hurts me girl by The Carstairs.
