  1. Did you know Desmond Dekker & The Aces are playing at The Robin 2 R&B club in Biltson tonight Pete? Mind you he must be getting on a bit now.
  2. Pete, Can you play skiing in the snow for me on the request show please?
  3. Sorry to hear this Phil. Good luck with your new venue.
  4. Ben Sherman , Lambretta and err Asda.
  5. The owners of the venue who know very little about soul music have decided to run the venue themselves and cut out the middlemen. The venue is effectivly finished.
  6. I have just been contacted by Phil Turner and have been given the very sad news that Junction 11 soul club has held its last event there as they have lost the venue. This is a big blow as it was one of the countries top nights. Click on the website for the official announcement. https://www.junction11.co.uk/
  7. I dont want to defend this record in any way quality wise but the worst thing that ever happened to it was bieng covered by the dreadful Wigans Ovation in the 70s. The Invitations version was an authentic sixties recording and has played a valid and genuine part in the history of Northern soul and if someone wants to pay good money for it good on them. A US version of James Walsh Gypsy Band - Cuz its you girl fetched £125.00 on Ebay recently , and to me this is a far more waste of money . Horses for courses as they say.
  8. Click on this link for details. /index.p...nt&eventid=1348
  9. I have been trying to connect to Northern soul radio weekly show (Paddy Grady) for the last few days but it and all related links are offline. Is it just a technical fault or has it closed down completely. Anyone know?
  10. At least there's an authentic black fist on that compilation , not a purple one.
  11. Two cheapies that do the job. Make sure - The Dells. Together till the end of time - Brenda Holloway.
  12. Dave Hall - Look at me. It does it for me when those girly vocals kick in. Makes me go all soppy
  13. This 2003 K Tel diabolical effort has to be one of the worst ever for the cover design alone , and yes all the tracks have been re-mastered.Should have been called This is not Northern Soul. Was 99p at any good post office.
  14. Two I bought out of the charity shop this morning for 50p each which Ive just played that still sound as good as the first time I heard them. Gladys Knight & the Pips - Just walk in my shoes. One way out - Martha & Vandellas. Good value.
  15. Needle in a haystack comes to mind and I dont mean the song
  16. We dont seem to of had many polls on here lately so I thought I'd put this up while I was thinking about it today. Who was your favourite Marvin or JJ. both have been compared strongly vocally , J J apparently silenced by motown ( at Marvins request) for a period in the late 60s because of his similarity to Marvins vocals. I personally cannot seperate them with Please let me in bieng my all time top oldie which I think epitomises Northern soul but on the other hand absolutely love Take this heart of mine by Marvin. Both superb but what do you reckon? What are their finest moments?
  17. What type of organ was used on Handle it with care , a Rolf Harris stylophone. Its absolute rubbish. And yes Billy Preston did make a decent record with Let the music play which knocks that limp wristed effort in to a pile of shite. https://the.soulclub.org/stream/Billy_Prest..._Music_Play.ram
  18. Heres a scan of the Flaming arrow label.
  19. And while I remember (just about) my Uncle Mick was a genuine first generation Mod with a Lambretta scooter with a million mirrors. I can still picture it now outside my aunties house in Upper Gornal in the mid /late 60s. I know he ended up in jail for the night because someone knicked something off it and he ended uo going up Dudley and knicked something similar off another scooter and ended up getting caught.
  20. Just out of interest what types of music do members of your family listen to. I'm lucky as my wife Dawn loves the same music as me , 60s soul & motown. My Mum & Dad (God bless) allways listened to Jack Jones and Andy Williams Lps. My brother is into heavy rock but his favourite record of all time is Theres a ghost in my house by R Dean Taylor. My sister was mad about Wham but I dont know what she listens to now. My 20 year old lad Tom is into modern R&B but secretly loves northern soul as I have caught him listening and dancing to it but he is just a little embarresed by his age to be assosiated with going out to a soul night. Any movers or shakers in your family?
  21. Played these three 45s tonight before I went to the Wan-King chinese takeway and had spare ribs in spunky sauce. Fortune Teller - Benny Spellman. Trying to keep up with the Joneses - Frank Polk. Without the one you love - Four Tops.
  22. Did'nt Steve Mancha & JJ Barnes do one side each on an LP about stamp collecting?
  23. No its not Be young be foolish , its something else. I heard it when I was doing my ebay wrapping in the garage and heard it on the telly in the back room. I went in just as it was finishing but its almost certainally Northern soul.Dawn heard it and reckons its The Four tops but its not them.
  24. OK , but I bet it would finish higher in a poll than anything you mentioned earlier
