The Rarest Known Micheal Jackson On Vinal? Please Read
dthedrug replied to dthedrug's topic in Look At Your Box
Cheers for that. there is no getting away from the issue that as we are a collective breed of soul purists that and I am speaking from a personal point of view MOCHEAL JACKSON Has little to offer us in the case of rare soul? but as a collector of soul I have always picked up what I consider as unusual bits and pieces from car boot sales this 12 inch record cost 50P and in the same box I got a mint "guns of Navarone-VA on Trojan MINT", When as most of us checked the value of items that we don't know love it or loath it, it was not in any record guide and when the Record Collector Price Guide fist came out they did not mention it and all these years later it is still not in there? that's because as I have mentioned because it is not meant to exist? however you can all see it does. it has taken me 20+ years to come up with the info that I talk about in the article. as for the EBAY sale it makes sense as Micheal Jackson has not the reputation that he did have when this item was made, and as such without the history that my research has uncovered I bet the buyer does not know what he has? why not contact him/her as they may still have it. also as I have said my info accounts for 4 copies there may of course be more? To conclude as a UK collector of soul I was surprised at how much Micheal Jackson/Jackson 5 records that I have :- all the TAMLA MOTOWN singles on DEMOS & EPIC on DEMOS + a Red vinyl set and 2 complete sets of 7inch singles picture discs in there plastic wallets? and apart from "I WANT YOU BACK" they don't really belong in my collection of rare UK soul or do they? Since the man sold his copy on EBAY last night I trawled through the US EBAY site and already any Micheal Jackson record is there, as collectors we may be perhaps interested in the STEALTOWN records but I have had the in the past and they are not very good. PLEASE IF ANY COLLECTOR HAS MORE INFO ON THIS RECORD I WOULD BE INTERESTED, AND I DO BELIEVE SUCH ITEMS LIKE THIS BELONG IN THE HANDS OF REAL COLLECTORS NOT DEALLERS ON THAT POINT I HOPE YOU ALL AGREE! don't forget I asked for help about how to make a down load copy? i have purchased a turn table from a well known IT store but as a luddite it is still to much for me to follow the technology long gone are the days I could play a record and tape it? any help I would gratefully appreciate. Hi now how about this MEGA RARE ITEM?. THAT i picked up at a car boot sale at Dudley ZOO, way back. It,s a copy of a Micheal Jackson 12inch record that has an amazing history to it, it is perhaps one of the rearrest UK vinyl record with a soul connection , it,s on EPIC and simply titled MICHEAL JACKSON..PROMOTION COPY NOT FOR SALE..XPR 1242..conplation by Disco Mix Club (DMC)..It is without doubt the worlds finest Disco mix of all time. and the history of its existence is wrapped up in mystery? When I first played it I knew it could never be improved on it is that good. the reason of it being on vinyl is such a fascinating story in it,s self as the as the producer of it ALLEN COULTHARD and as such he is responsible for the MEGAMIX. 500 DJ received a copy of the MIX on tape cassette from SONY, After a few weeks the impact and feedback about the tape was immense and as such and the demand for the up and coming Album THRILLER, was to much for the promotion team at epic to ignore as such there P & R man Ronnie Fisher, called the PRODUCER Alan Coulthard to get the MIX put on vinyl, Sill under the DMC magazine promotions, and a quantity of 12inch's were made how many I personally do not no, at a guess I would of assumed 150 copies?... On taking delivery of the records from the pressing plant, the Promotion team had already been informed that Micheal Jackson had not sanctioned the REMIX of the material on the tape and stopped the vinyl 12inch promotion dead and as such they were removed from the head office in London and destroyed, even though RONNIE had pleaded with his Managing Director Maurice OBERSTINE that this was the best promotion of the THRILLAR Album that could ever be done MO said his directive was from CBS and as such they had to be destroyed immediately and were removed there and then. so how come a few years later did I find my copy, sadly RONNIE is no longer with us to say, but the Producer ALAN COULTHARD has disclosed that he took 4 copies of the security man with out him knowing as they left the building to be destroyed. As such a glance at the label and the titles will tell you what a great compilation that is on the historic price of vinyl, even if you tried to follow the records yourself and do your own mix as I once did sounds great, however as I say this 12inch is the MEGAMIX of all time and is about 25 minutes long, if you are a DJ and played it now I guarantee you would pack the dance floor for the whole 25 minutes if I knew how to do sound clips I would let you all have a copy of it. My last comment on it is quite simple MICHEAL JACKSON has been around in many shapes a guises, from the Wheel days when the Jackson 5 bought out "I WANT YOU BACK" till the day he died I have never heard of any one not likening his music far from the rare soul scene he may of been but as a person who roots were made at MOTOWN there's no denying his talent? IF ANY ONE HAS MORE INFORMATION ON THIS VINAL MASTER PEICE OR CAN PUT SOME KIND OF VALUATION ON IT I WOULD BE MOST GREATFUL, THE RECORD IS VG+ BUT NO HISS OR POPS& CLICKE PLAYS GREAT DAVE KIL

Sadley this situation has always been a part of the rare Soul Scene since it started?, and we have all got stories that we can give, your harmless action and Isay that as you state that your limitted run was not to make money but to introduce and turn poeple on to rare soul that they may never own or here, as you are aware you can only be proud that with the knowlage your excellant selection of music has been picked up on, its a shame you have not been mention as the conplyer of the album, however as you did not have the copy right you have made the job easy for some ontrapanure?, It,s just a thought I wonder if they have copy rights as you can always check if they have not they would have to shell out cash to cover there breach In the early days of Wigan Casino inderviduels would often purches rare records from dealers at whatever your price was on the behalf of Simon to Bootleg the copy and these set of BOOTS were out right counterfits as they even copyed the label as such the first batch fooled some dealers who were unaware that the record had been booted?. As I have wittnessed over the years and I agree with Pete S view piont however I have scene and have work that must of taken him ages to conpile as tape and written word ripped of even the he always made acknowlagement to lets say FINDAGROOVE when he was working on the great Beatin Rythm project DAVE KIL

The classic re worker of the standard "what a Differance a Day Makes" by the fabualas Esther Phillips. must be one of the top tunes that was ever played, first at the Mecca on release and oat the Casino while it was still in the US R&B charts, it hit the UK 14 months later DISCO wise, I suppose this is true of "YMCAby the Vilage people"? Hi all I can clearly remember Mick Smith having the allturnite version of the "I have faith in you" way back in the 7ts on a studio accitate, and so much so I think I would at the time had gladley give him £15 for a EMI Disk of it, in the *ts he added it to his play list and of coure it finally came out on vinal as the B side of Babara Mc Naire, and though not rare as such but as a UK collector I treasure my white lable copy? also Mick use to have the INST of "Clara Wards - Right Direction" with just the backing vocals, who knows what the man has got yet to be played? Mossy I take your point, however I find the Fighting Man very synbolic of myself, as the youngest in my family and the fact that my elder sister was an origanal 63 MOD, and elder brother was a face and feared or revered as a hard nut MOD, when I left school in 1967 at the age of 15, I was already influance by the MOD culture, however like so many of us at this time rejected most aspects of the mood and change in sociaty, as such and with the death of a WEST HAM supporter at the last away game at Notts Forest 67/68 season over that summer the attitude of the younger fans from the East End changed no in fighting fromnow on all the west ham fans would act as one and as such make sure no one picked on us? of course this was the start of the new sub culture off the Boot Boy full of Agro, this new style of gang culture was taken up by other London Football fans over the next 8 weeks. And 1 year later 40 years ago the press had rebranded the gang culture and called it SKINHEAD, as such I will always have an eliment of agro in me, My close friend for 40 years Mick Smith was and always be a Soul Boy MOD and that is the differance, it is also worth noteing that the skinhead uniform was embraced by many poeple at the time as it is to this day a crisp and styelish look and just because they wore the cloths it did not make them skinheads, from my own perspective the Boot Boy (skinhead) culture had finished in the early part of 1970, yet the fashion and style is reconised world wide If you come from the london area at the time I was a teanager it was full of agro and violance even at a disco. So you can imagine my shock when I first went to the early rare soul nights, expecting agro, but got the conpleat oppersit respect the hand shake? what was that all about, and I know that the poeple there were like myself If you no Wolves POeple Like Big Frankie Baggort a Wheel goer Smokie at the Torch and many more are real hard men yet the rare soul scene was not based on tough guys but tough records to find and collect, so thats why I use it as a symbolic of the roots of rare soul DAVE (THE BOOT BOY) KIL

I still have about 30+ posters from the east Anglia soul club that put on the all-nights at Peterborough and St Ives and other venues:- I loved going to the venues then as when they started not many people from north hearts would go to Wigan as often as myself and I did not have a car in those days and thumbing your way up north with a pair of bags on and a adidas bag box of records was hard work standing at junction 9 on a sat morning trying to get up north, so as I say in 75 and onwards these all nighters were a welcome break as well as Samantha's and Cleethorpes 2 piers best memory is getting to the places especially with Taffy and Tom and the Letchworth gang we often saw badgers on vesper's rabbits thumbing lifts while zipping up their fur jackets once we saw a weasel on a motor bike how crazy is that at 2 in the morning if you don't believe me ask Taffy DAVE KIL

Hi in the 7ts I used to work as a roadie with several PA & Lighting companies, as such I had the opportunity to work with quite a few soul bands that toured the UK, GIL SCOTT HERON was a classic soul/jazz man, he was promoting his JO-BURG release it was strange for me at the time as the BOTTLE was a big sound at WIGAN CASINO with its great intro that hooked the dancers onto the floor it all the ingredients for dancers and purist lovers of soul it is not norther soul but SOUL OF THE TIME. the man and his band like most good quality bands were professional musicians and when in rehearsal they jammed across there set and it was very jazz/funk jamming that the music went where the musician wanted it to go, Gil was very influenced by the AFRICAN ONE "FELA KUTI" AS QUITE A FEW BLACK AMERICANS WERE at the time?. I Also worked with KOOL & THE GANG and there jamming style was the best FUNK that I have ever heard there were very influenced by Ed Kyser, however that's another story DAVE KIL
