Cheers for this info as I made a bid on "Love & Desire" and now I know how close I was on that one DAVE KIL

I have also got this preview 45, its a great car boot find as all preview singles are and in some cases Flexi singles as you never no whats on them? as I love this sort of thing I would give a value probably above what most would give, they are rare, but not ultra rare as this single does not have a rare track on it? great music but not rare, my value would be £10 but most collectors would not appreciate the historical aspect of the disc, the Action People single is perhaps a much more wanted review record, and as I say certain Flexi discs such as the Tamla-Motown disc that came with Chartbusters 5, or now Micheal Jackson has died the Flexi Valentine present the Jackson 5, must have gone up in price?...in fact is there a list of unusual promo/flexi discs that have a soul connection in existence? dthedrug replied to Sheldonsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi it,s a very hard one as I love the Detriot Sound,...Not my favourate but I spin both sides of this record, has anybody any info about it?, classic 6ts sound yet it could be a 8ts record for all I no! It,s by the Elevations - "Kissing" - D . wreckED . hiT-Michigan B/W "What Can I Do", 2 great sides the vocal sounds like Chrissy Hinds - DAVE KIL. -
Yes I have been told of about the use of capitolsand I will do my best not to use them in future? as for living in Totternham and not supporting the Spurs is grea news DAVE KIL.

Yes I can "SPURS" or as we use to call them from West Hams North Bank, way back when GODS dog was a pup!, YIDDO! YIDDO!, raceist yes but at the time 69 true? DAVE KIL.

NICE ONE KEN!, I APOLAGISE THAT MY OLD BOY/SCHOOL POLITCS, CAYSED YOU SOME CONFUSION, FIRST THING AT TIMES I GET SO ENGROSED IN THIS SITE SINCE I FIRST COME ACCROSS IT. I ASSUME FOR SOME DAFT REASON THAT MOST PEOPLE KNOW ME?, AND LIKE ALL PEOPLE OF MY AGE MANY ASPECTS OF LIFE ARE "WHEN I WAS A LAD..." AS SUCH I USE MY PAST EXPERANCIES AND KNOWLAGE WITHOUT PUTTING THE OLD BRAIN INTO GEAR! RESULTING IN MORE OF A NONCHALLANT STATEMENT. HOWEVER MY PIONT IS IN THE EARLY DAYS OF GETTING ABOUT AT A TIME WHEN THE MAJORITY OF YOUNG PEOPLE NEVER WENT FURTHER THAN DOWN TOWN. THE CLUBS AND THE SCENE WAS SO CURRENT AS IT WAS IN THE HERE AND NOW?, AND EVEN THE RARE SOUL SCENE AS SUCH WAS PLAYING RECIRDS THAT WERE CURRENT OR JUST 2 YEARS OLD, EVEN WHEN THE DOORS OF WIGAN OPENED MOST OF THE RECORDS IF NOT ALL WITH A COUPLE OF EXCEPTION WRER FROM 65 ONWARDS, SO EVEN THEN THAT WAS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD, AS SUCH FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF ALL NIGHTER GOERS THE SCENE WAS VIBERANT AND DIVERS IN NATURE, AND THE VENUES REPUTATION WAS BASED ON THE OLD MOD VALUES OF BEING EXCLUSIVE (THIS WAS VERY APPARENT IN THE MID 7ts WITH THE MECCA V WIGAN ISSUE) THIS EXCLUSIVEALITY TO BE LOYAL TO THE SCENE AND CLUB AND HOW THE UNWRITTEN RULES OF THE SOUL SCENE WERE ESTABLISHED WAY BACK, THE ISSUE IN THE NORTH WAS DIFFERANT FROM THE SOUTH, THATS A FACT HOWEVER THE PLACES THAT I MENTIONED AND THE EARLY NORTHER CLUBS WHICH AT THE TIME WERE AT THE TIME VERY HARD TO LOCATE, THAN MY PIONT OF GOING TO A SOHO CLUB, HAVEING LIVED IN THE NORTH IN FACT MY LAST 2 YEARS AT SCHOOL WERE IN PRESTON AND PROBERLY THE FIRST PLACE THAT I WENT TO WAS THE BOWLING ALLY ON THE CORNER OF CASTLE STREET & VERNON STREET, I CAN REMEMBER CLEARLY SOME OF THE SOUL RECORDS PLAYED THERE IN 66 MANY HAVE TURNED OUT AS STATESIDE RELEASES, ALTHOUGH I HATED LIVING IN THE NORTH AT THE TIME, MY PIONT IS I LOVED MY ORIGANAL CLUB/DICOTEQUE EXPERIANCES AND MY LOVE OF BLACK MUSIC WAS DEVELOPT AS A PART OF THE EXPEERIANCE, AS I WILL EXPLAIN THE ISSUE I RRAISED IS SIMPLY THAT THE SCENE IS MORE ABOUT THE OWNERSHIP OF CERTIAN RARE SOUNDS TO THE MAJORITY THAN THE FACT OF ENJOYING THE AMBIONSE AND EXPERIANCE OF THE VENUE, IF YOU CAN EMPATHISE WITH MY SENTAMENT ITS GOT A COMMON SENCE ASPECT TO IT, AS (a)THE OLDER ELIMENT OF ALLNIGHTER GOERSARE NOW 40 YEARS+ ( AS WE LOOK BACK 20 YEARS AGO CLEARLY THE HIGH PRICED RECORDS WERE THE ROCK & ROLL RAREITIES, AS WITH THAT SCENE IT HAS DIED A DEATH AS THE OLD TEDS DIED LEAVING THE RARE RECORDS TO BE DICOVERD BY ANOUTHER GENERATION? © i CAN CLEARLY REMEMBER THAT WHEN I FIRST VENTURED INTO A CLUB IN THE LATE 6ts & IN THE 7ts UP TO 78, WHEN LIKE A FEW OF US WE HAD ENOUGTH OF THE SCENE, i LOOKED AT RECORDS AS FROM THE VENUES THAT i FIRST HERED THEM AT OR NEW WHERE THEY WERE FIRST PLAYED eg THE TORCH MECCA WHEEL WIGAN SAMANTHAS CLEATHORPS AND SO ON? AND THAT NO DJs PLAYED BOOTLGS OR EMI DISCS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JOHN VINCENT A GREAT GUY, (d) TODAYS SCENE REFLECTS TO ME HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED SOME WOULD SAY IT,S NO DIFFERANT THAN THE 72 -75 WITH CLUB GOERS BUYING REPRESS COPY OF RARE VINAL? BUT THE SAME PEOPLE NOW SELL THE STUFF (eat your words chaps!) (e) THE ISSUE BEING ASKED TO GO OR INVITED TO GO IS A STATEMENT OF HOW THINGS USED TO BE. (f) THE ISSUE THAT LED TO MY REMARK WAS BASED ON ALL THINGS THAT I NOW LOATH ABOUT THE SCENE, ADY HAS BEEN A STALWART OF KEEPING THE FAITH, AND HE HAS PROVIDE THE LOYAL PUNTEERS THAT GO TO THE 100 CLUB FOR MANY YEARS NOW WITH AN EXCLUSIVE 45, AS A THANK YOU FROM HIM TO THOSE HE LOOKS ON AS LOYAL TO THE 100 CLUB, WHEN I SEE PEOPLE ASKING THE PRICE OF A 100 CLUB RAREITY? WELL MY PIONT IS VALLID THEY ARE FREE, AND THE FACT OF BEING ASKED TO GO IS A ONGOING ISSUE THAT I HAVE ABOUT WHY DO SOUL COLLECTORS NOT GET ASKED YET IF YOU OWN AND PURCHESS RECORDS FROM CERTAIN PEOPLE YOU ARE EXCELLARATE UP THE LIST ESPECIALY FOR DJs?. ONE DAY I WILL RIGHT A BOOK I THINK CALLED THE RISE AND FALL OF NORTHER SOUL FROM A STALWALT AND A COLLECTORES PIONT OF VIEW? TO CONCLUED ITS JUST A CASE OF WHAT USED TO BE THE NORTHERN SOUL QUOTE "RIGHT ON & KEEP THE FAITH" AND ON THE SENTAMENT THAT SOME DJs ONLY OWN 500 RECORDS OR LESS BUT ARE ASKED TO ATTEND, WHY SHOULD I A COLLECTER OF A FEW THOUSAND SOUL RECORDS NOT EXPECT THE SAME? KEN RIGHT ON AND DO KEEP THE FAITH AS YOU SEE IT DAVE KIL

WHY DO I have to be asked? can,t you read? its because I am up my own asshole and its my old manor the 100 club has been there yeres pal, and as I have clearly stated that many weekend was spent in the West End, Soho clubs were the best in the country in he 6ts as I used to go to the Flamingo, Ties Worked in The Marquee Club, frequent Upstairs at Ronnies, the LA Deuce club and go to other night spots the Ram Jam The Bouncing Ball, I new Mr Vin personally also Dave Barker Pama Dice Dennis Alcapone and many more, the Totenham Royal, different RICKY TICK venues the Round House, Stevenage Mecca The CALI the dot in Cambridge the Hammersmith Pali ad also went to the TWISTED WHEEL And in particular I have known Mick for 40 years and Adey for 35 years being asked is what KEEPING THE FAITH is about RESPECT DAVE KILl

SORRY i COULD NOT GIVE YOU THE INFO YOU WERE ASKING FOR DAVE KIL -

As a long time collector of black music, i don't think a week goes by without finding new variations of playing my records, indeed sometimes I will play 3 to 500 records over a 6 week period, and as most of us have found out over the years it,s when you MIX EM UP! that can lead you into a tangent, as such records that you have had for many years become your weekly all time favourites, this is the case with this Vocal Artist producer a certain gent called Arttus Suttersfield, who hails from Elizabeth New Jersey, and such a local man is he that there is a sticker on the Bobby Black AXIS record that names a Miss Brenda Navirro who apparently worked in the local hospital. At the moment I have just one disc from ARRTUS that has a fine uptempo dancer very in-keeping with today's taste in rare Soul it,s backed with a good Ballard, the other AXIS Disc is by Bobby Black that I got of EBAY 2 years ago for £15. The only other disc that I am aware of by Artist is very rare titled "don't Lie".. Has any one got more info on the man as the Body Black has 2 excellent sides that are worthy of being played (as I don't get out and about forgive me if they are or have had been well spun ed) if you see either one I can fully recommend the to yourself. DAVE KIL. By the way I have been asked why myself and Mick Smith were not at KEELE last week well you will have to speak to Mick, however I went Clubbing at Stonedhenge? see me club looking for the right GRUNGIE TO BASH DK

Hi I wrote an early piece in this thread about an issue about bringing ALL nighter essentials so all you soulsters could stay awake all night? well it was a living these are the geezers that I was talking about, they used to hang around that pass-way but mainly used to hustle the kids in the piss pool (gents) as I say it was heavy and our actions back were far to heavy for them?, the people that you are on about were mainly from Wolves as i have lived here for 30 years now,its amazing what a great bunch of blokes they turned out to be, i don't want to name any one on this sight but nearly all of the became champions in various sports such as boxing karate and judo, and were to become UK champions and in 1 case went to the Olympics and one a bronze medal that's if its the same blokes i am talking about 74 to 76 ish, there is one thing coming from London area you are bought up in anticipation there's going to be a bundle on the dance floor, DAVE KIL

Cheers Mick I allways was sure of it i just must of been talking to the uneducated, no I better retract that? Any way howyoudoin have not seen you for ages and you wernt at Harpos Bash?. DAVE KIL

Hi everyone just been reading the article on a Tamla-Motown single TMG 619 which has the classic "Stepping ClOSER to You're Hart" as the B side of the demo as the same as the US SOUL issue?. I have a question about TMG 680 and as such I would like to seek conformation about a copy of it that I used to have it was the first run of the record and my copy had the "FACTORY SAMPLE-NOT FOR SALE" Sticker on it, the record has no faults it,s the label that has the miss press as it credits are correct title but the artist name is MARY JOHNSON? Never come across another copy, and although I have a regular issue and a nice DEMO, neither has the MARY JOHNSON label? can anyone confirm this as true as it,s one of those facts that I know is true yet no one else has seen or heard about it and its never mentioned in full label listings? DAVE KIL.

PETE I WAS GOING TO FIND OUT IF RECORD COLLECTOR HAD ANY IDEA? AS I HAVE WRITTEN THE INFO IS FROM THAT SOURCE, I NO YOU HAVE CONTACTS WITH RC. IN TODAYS CLIMET OF ANY THING RELATED TO JACKO AS I SAY THIS TO MY KNOWLAGE THE RAREST UK MJ THAT SEMS QUITE CLEAR, AND WHEN I SAW A COPY ON EBAY 6 YEARS AGO IS WHERE I GOT THE INFO FROM, I PUT IT ON WATCH AND WHEN IT REACHED £1K WITH OVER 2 DAYS TO GO IT JUST DISAPEERED? THERE COULD BE 2 REASONS FOR THIS 1. HE GOT AN OFFER HE COULD NOT REFUSE? 2 THE COMPANY STEPED IN TO PREVENT THE SALE? THIS HAPPENED TO A MATE IN LONDON WHO PRESSED 50 COPIES OF AN UNRELEASED PAMA DICE SINGLE TO COMEMORATE HIS DEATH 2 YEARS BACK THE SINGLE WAS PUT OUT ON DICE MUSIC CALLED DICE EXPERIANCE B/W DICE EXPERANCE 2 A BRILLIANT INSTRAMENTAL HE SOLD 5 OR 6 COPIE AT £15 EACH AND UT OF THE BLUE A KNOCK ON THE DOOR I THINK IT WAS A SANCTORY LAWYER DEMANDING ALL THE COPIES BACK AS THEY OWNED THE COPY RIGHT AND THEY PROVED IT AS IT WAS ON SOME OBSCURE CD? THE BAD PIONT OF THIS STORY IS PAMA DICE GAVE HIS PERMISHION FOR ITS RELEASE, SLIGHTLY OFF THE MJ RECORD I WAS DJING IN LAVENDER HILL 13 YEAS AGO PLAYING GOOD OLD SOUL THE PUB WAS THE BEOUFOY WANDSWORTH A REAL BLACKMANS PUB AND WHILE I WAS DOING MY SET PAMA DICE TOOK THE MIKE OF ME AND DID HIS TOASTING OVER NORTHER SOUL TRACKS I WAS AMAZED THERE A TAPE SOMEWHERE WITH HIM TOASTING AS FOR THE RECORD IF YOU HAVE NOT GOT IT I WILL LOAN IT TO YOU DAVE KIL... BY THE WAY YES PLEASE AS I MAY BE SITTING ON A NEST EGG -

First thing I no if you google the Cali it comes up with a full listing of artist that played there in the 6ts and some photos of the deralict building, The simple truth is it was one of the best venues if not the best outside London in the 6ts DAVE KIL
-
With the greatest of respect the Cali was indeed the Top Venue for Live groups and especially for Soul and Reggae artist in the UK, and for myself I have great memories of the place, the huge dance floor as I say the groups both pop and Soul who played there in fact I am certain most top groups and Artists have played there in the 6ts and early 7ts, personally I went to the Cali quite a lot but in particular to see the Reggae artists who played there Desmond Decker and the Aces what a great night the pioneers Jimmy Cliff Toots and the Maytals and many more the best night I had at the Cali was when SYNRIP (pyramids) played it was packed out with skinheads from all over Hertfordshire Bedford Luton and indeed North London when they did SKINHEAD MOONHOP the lead singer I forget his name put 8 plastic cups on the stage and moon-hopped around the the place went mental? he then asked for 2 people to come on the stage, I am proud to say that I was one of them and my mate Chris was the other and we gave it large in front of hundreds of skinheads, what a night?..as the Cali was in the south I feel many people on Soul Source are either from the wrong part of the UK or maybe to young? I remember they tried to put on Northern Soul Nights I never attended any of these as I preferred to go to Wigan at the time what would you do? DAVE KIL

Yes I totaly agree, I was offered a "Looking Through The Windows" a few months ago but turned it down, Mick Smith bout it? DAVE KIL -
To be honest I can only really talk about the 7ts with great authority, I did witness a cat fight at Wigan in 75sh apart from that no, however on a personal level that is on a more seeder side of Northern Soul AL_NIGHTERS as an EX Drug dealer supplier of Amphet I came across some of the more heavy allnighter people who were all to pleased to roll you for all the efforts that I was bringing what the kids wanted, as such I have 2 stories that are relevant as if it was not for the fact we were armed the situation would of got really heavy in the CASINO (men's bog) the outcome was never to be repeated and in fact much improved this underworld position love it or loath it drugs were a integral part of all night soul at Wigan Casino, but most punters did not have a clue relay how there £10 bag of speed got there?.
