  2. HI ALL .....Sold my copy many years ago, it was a original tri colored issue of "Time marches on" I got it from SOUL BOWL in the mid 7ts, the copy I have at the moment is similar to many West Coast pressings, However is it a bootleg like you get your kicks" or "breakout"? whatever it is boot or legit, please notice the name HALL not HILL so it's much rarer than the common bootlegs, but I can't confirm it is proper, maybe a 2nd press, I would class it as the 1st BOOT, but who knows, surprised Pete Has not had it? but at the moment ive only seen this copy & original tri coloured. I love the B side to this record, my copy DAVE K
  3. HI ALL.....Now would that be the same cat that's on CHUBBY CHECKERS "YOU JUST DON'T KNOW"??

  5. HI All what fantastic response for Tony much has been said & written, I first sold I mean met Tony in Bedford in 72, he was part of a large number who were into rare soul, going to the Pilgrims Pub Bletsoe were very new back then, Tony will be missed by me, a strange fact, I have only 3 contacts from the Scene in my Mobile, Tony is one, strange but true, also he owes me £50? RIP TONY, Dave Kilworth 2 good mates.
  6. HI All ....I believe so, it was always pretty cheap post 75 when John Anderson put it on his lists for 85p,I have always thought a dj should play it as If you went to Wigan at the same nights as me, it's a newie, DAVE
  7. Hi All..... here is a 1st for me, last week I ordered 2 records from Mick Smiths latest list, I e-mailed him the info of what I wanted, #20 & #71, reply from Mick saying I was in luck, paid for the 2 45s, on Monday I opened the records, inside were 2 records, but not the 2 I ordered, thinking that I had someone else's records I told Mick about his mistake, about 3am Tuesday to my embarrassment I realised it was me who F up? When I got the list from Mick & before reading it, I put it down in my record room, later on I picked 2 records from the LIST #20 & #71, Hope you are following this? The problem was I had read a old list & made my order from it, I was sent the ~20 ^ #71 from his latest list, a lesson learnt, Dave HERE ARE MY NEW RECORDS
  8. Hi All...the follow up of a kind to her big UK hit, by that I mean my copy of breakaway was a import from Contempos Soho, I got this the week it was released, I'm sure that there was 2 records in between My Man & Breakaway by Millie Dave
  9. Hi All, Did you go to Wigan Casino? ........in 1973?? here is one of my fave 45s from the 1st few months at Wigan, it never went big, but did with me, it's a long lasting soul/blues that will have it's day, if you have not heard it before, you should be ok, clip fro you tube?? DAVE K My COPY https://youtu.be/jU8NAFbgm0M
  10. Hi All....this is a fantastic record that's full of SOUL and a excellent choice, this is tune that I would want in my collection (you can tell that I ain't got a copy) I would add this to the chart of most wanted sounds 2014, how much does it go for? Dave K
  11. HI ALL....YES IT'S ME BACK (for how long) feeling much better, so thanks for all the nice comments sent, also thanks for staying with the RECORD CLUB thread WELL DONE, As I am very late with picking a new theme, I thought it was time for us to pick the TOP Favourites of each member, ideally pick a 45 from your collection, that you feel that it is a must have record to own, not easy! as I'm aware that there are similar threads all over the WEB, that your choice will also include info that will help younger soul brothers & sisters will enjoy your pick,. WHY WE NEED TO DO THS? On Friday we had a Gas man at a guess he was in his mid 20s, call at our house, he could not contain himself after noticing my record room, he asked me many questions about the rare soul scene, as he had started going to local events & was going to the Blackpool weekender, Never to miss a opportunity to play records, I put on a few classics for him, what surprised me was he did not know some & the ones he did he was unaware of the artist or title, in-fact he needed some education, (this is something that is missing from other threads, with a couple of exception, John Manships gives a great potted write up on all of his items that I really enjoy.) A list of must haves as opposed to the top 500 records that Kev Roberts put together will differ by the fact it is record club members pick, not 1 persons view, although Kevs book is excellent, this will be if we can be a collectors guide & benefits the up & coming DJs of to-morrow, I have put a few pictures of what I call classics, but for some off the younger people they are newies, To kick of the thread I have picked a big sound from 1972 that would be classed as a TORCH MECCA classic, SMASH RECORDS #S2111 - the AMBERS - "Potion of LOVE" b/w "Another LOVE". My COPIES would you pick any of these? DAVE K https://youtu.be/EnGhenK_RP0
  12. Hi without reading any of the replies the Marsha Gee record was discovered by Butch in New York, full story is on soul source, the Bootleg that you dislike, turned many people onto the record as there is little chance of getting a copy, sometimes a bootleg is ok as this one is DAVE K,
  13. I hope you do get better, and find work, some nice records all cheapish, I resisted selling mine off, I would never replace them, so I went hungry & cold, Good luck Dave k
  14. Hi All.... Yes it's as you say brilliant, and many people have yet to hear it after so many years, Pete thanks for info the sleeve uses part of the Ohio players LP DAVE K
  15. HI ALL,,,I HAVE 2 331/3 DJ PROMO MAXI PUT OUT BY PHONOGRAM 1973?... HOW MANY MAXI 331/3 RECORDS ARE THERE? THEY COME OUT WHEN THE MOBILE DISCO SERIES STARTED WITH MERCURY & CHESS JANUS, THE 2 I HAVE BELOW SCANS THANK DAVE K
  16. HI ALL Velvetes £350 to £400, or £4 for a demo reissue, James Brown night train £10 £15. DAVE K
  17. Hi All...... I think sometimes people don't fully understand how record deals are made? & totally forget that people like Mick Smith (full time record dealer) this is job, and as such he needs sell records to live, last Saturday he was in Wolverhampton, so just the cost of getting to the fair would be £25, then there is £40 for the stall, so once this is taken on board, the records that he sells will be priced at a price to sell, this price is based upon 40 years experience, of buying & selling Rare SOUL, So for example if you asked me as a collector to put a price on your DEMO I would say £45 for a mint copy, Mick would use his knowledge about the record, this will include the demand for it, priced at £45 nay be right, but that maybe to much for him, as the buyer might hesitate and walk away, so the way most dealers work out the selling price is normally twice the price paid, Most dealers when buying stock (collections) will only buy what they know will sell easily, call it cherry picking, but that's what they do, if you had 1000 records for sale, they as go through the records making piles, each pile will have different price on them any thing from £5 to over £100+. this can cause a upset, seeing your £60 45 put in a £15 pile, then when you think oh well! the dealer will start moving the piles rejecting some outright, Depending how needy you are to raise cash, For this reason if I have spares of certain record I will class them as stock for Mick, knowing that the price will be low, however I have got over the years many 45s from Mick but I have never paid the price he has marked up in his sales box, for me finding certain records & giving them to Mick, has made it possible to build a great UK collection at a knock down price, people who sell records for the high rate they might sell some but will never achieve the status of Mick or Pete Smith, both of them sell cheap compared with many others, I recommend if you don't use them you are just throwing your money away DAVE K
  18. HI ALL This is my 1st posting in this thread (not even had a glance) here is a good oldie that was big at YATE for Ian Clark? Eyes of Blue had to northern soul hits on DERAM, "supermarket full of cans" is a interesting record northern yes, soul no. Saying that it is worth a spin today, my copy (apart from my UK copy) is on DERAM but pressed in the Philippines it must be one for serious collectors of foreign Northern dancers, I posted their other DERAM 45 in Soulsource record club, HEART TROUBLE is a rare Soulful version of the Parliaments. check it out if you don't no it. DAVE K
  19. HI ALL As many people who met DAVE, PERSONALY I can't remember him using the term Northern Soul when I spoke to him the time of his trips to both the Wheel & Blackpool MECCA the term us to describe the up-tempo records was "RARE SOUL" DAVE USED THIS TEARM, NORTHERN SOUL was not in common use until 73, I have gone through loads of B&S to-night and still can't pin point when the term was 1st printed, it's there in some issue but not in the ones that are folk law, however B&S #50 IS THE ICONIC ISSUE OF ALL TIME, with the EARL VAN DYKE cover DAVE K
  20. HI All if you get a chance to by the 69 album it has the best cut of this great track by far, DAVE K
  21. HI ALL.....I sort of agree that the B side "loves amazing" is better, however the instrumental of "what kind of lady" Dee Dee Sharp for me has a quantum jump back to the early days of my metamorphosis from soul into Northern Soul 1972, it was a regular spin at the DIVE in Hitchin for Billy Mac, or it may of been Mick Smith, As I already had "what Kind of lady" on ACTION 4522, hearing "LADY LADY LADY" & the fantastic label HUFF PUFF with the sly wolf or fox looking very dapper, makes it for me every time. DAVE K
  22. HI ALL.... I think you are spot on TOADY BOY, could you speak up next time? as it's not that far from Coventry to Wulva amton. DAVE K
  23. Hi All... As yet the simple answer is NO!. because of the risk of the many things that go wrong, most collectors though do know different ways to improve the way a record looks & plays many of these tips are on SOUL SOURCE already, all I would say 60 years of vinyl 45s and our full understanding of how the molecules in plastic are distorted with heat, no matter how flat the record becomes after having a warp, the sound will not be true, (this of cores depends on the severity of the warp in the 1st place) is there any particular record that you want looking at as I'm sure that would seem the best way, PM me with Photo DAVE K
  24. Hi if you get a spare B&S #2 it's also the only missing mag, I also have a few doubles to trade & badges, DAVE K
  25. HI PETE... Don't SELL it, I have to tax & mot the car, typical other wise I would take it, DAVE K
