  1. Hi Pete who is the Hitchhiker on the balcony???
  2. HI ALL I AGREE 2 GREAT SIDES, & this is another 45 that I use to sell for £10 in 86, and today it's a want, but not at that price
  3. HI ALL...Again very wise words from Pete, however thee are several types of collector on our scene, in the 7ts most people had a few bootlegs in their collections, today CD & look a like re issues have taken there place , then there are small time collector dealers / collector with their revolving record box collection, the DJ collector who has great records in one box and that's it, then there are people who collect US only or UK only soul records, the UK collector like to collect labels as well as individual 45s. US collector make go for cities regions like EAST COAST, the Recent sale of the UK Timi Yuro, I believe went to the person who buy as a investment, & will probably get shot of the record in months once it seems like that is the true value, it only take 4 people to inflate the price , you can spot them a mile away, they come out with crap like I have 2 people interested and have been offered £X pounds for it, So PETE is right however I have a addiction if I got rid of them what would I spend the cosh on, DAVE
  4. Pete you speak very wise words, however you know that I can't sell them on, I regretted selling 2 collection off, only to try and get back my favourite ones, we love soul music you have your family to think of, my family all grown up as long as they don't try to sell them, hence Mick & Jim will sell them, however Pete make MARIE a offer for everything & she will probably take it, funny subject ain't it it would be nice if my grand kids had every thing to carry our scene foreword, KTF.
  5. HI ALL ..."please operator" was put out as some sort of reissue I think? so I think the pointer sisters has a connection somehow, as I do with the small print "crazy baby", the snide one like the HESITATIONS & JERRY COOK SOUL TWINS, ALEXANDER PATTON LOOK GOOD BUT EASY TO SPOT,... ANY WAY MY COPY IS OK! SOUNDS GOOD,
  6. HI PETE... AS A ROMAN CANDLE, HOW DO YOU KNOW? NEXT YOU WILL BE TELLING ME THAT MARY WAS NO VIRGIN? I'M ALL CONFUSED.....MIND YOU I BET MICK WILL ASK YOU TO DO THE DONKEY WORK, IF I KNOW A CHERRY PICKER, IT'S MICK, ()don't say I said so)...
  7. HI ALL...The Timi Yuro may be expensive, but it certainly not the rarest, over the years it started of as a new play by people who have the knowledge to promote a record by including it in their DJ set, as we have seen in the past records like "STANKEY" go from a £1 to £100?, I like Timi Yuro, but back in 88 I turned a copy down that Mick Smith offered me to by a STATESIDE copy of the Incredibles (a rare record) as at the time the belief was it was rarer? do I regret not taking Micks advice at the time, he above all knows how rare UK SOUL records are,? all I would say is the market for rare UK SOUL this year has shot up to pay over £1k is an investment, which would mean I'm well off if the trend keeps on growing like this, however my records will not be sold until after I pop my clogs, by my mate Mick,
  8. HI ALL There is a bootleg copy of this classic also the ATLANTIC brown & red copy, which is in keeping with mid 7ts Atlantic pressings, the 1st copy is easy to identify just looking at the label it's black & red with matrix AT plus all the above info, the brown & red copy is a puzzle to get proper info on unlike the ABC counterfeits, I reckon there is some proper connection with ATLANTIC even if it's a dodgy one?..
  9. HI ALL...BACK N THE 7ts SOUL BOWL was the DOGS B, The amount of records John put on his lists, enabled me to build my 1st rare soul collection, every Thursday morning I was on the phone to Kings Lynn, after putting an astatic against my wants, normally I would average 3 out of 10, which isn't bad when you think about it, Today the thought of paying £3 for records like the Ringleaders seams cheap, however back then it was different many records were under £10, in 78 I got a copy of the Invitations "Skiing in the snow" for £10 at Wigan, the most expensive records that I got were not even on SOUL BOWL list as they were UK issues & Demos, Shane Martin cost me £20 at Wigan got £40 for it, a lot of money, in 84 at the VIC in Wolves I got a copy of the Ringleaders for £1.50 & I have told the story on how I mugged myself selling it for £6 only to find out the price was going through the roof, I would love a copy of it today, trouble is when you are aware of how common it was back in the 7ts, I can't ever pay todays price, for this great record.....DAVE K
  10. £25 for funky chicken LP, is mad, it must be one off the very best LPs on the label, essential for those who like the skinhead sounds, if you have a copy of the 1970 wembely festival, there is a young lad dancing to the "funky Chicken", yes Pete you have mugged yourself, £30-£40 even £50 but £25 is stupid , recommended buy me, OK DAVE K
  11. Hi All .. Yes your right Pete. but I thought that was obvious to all. and over the years it is a question that has been raised but never answered, and at times gets very close to the mark, perhaps this would not be so if he had not chosen his name but used a company slogan? next time I will ender to make the point clearer to all, you know me Pete I have to go around the Wrekin DAVE K
  12. HI ALL... I enjoy this posting Joe, plus I tend to look at the MANSHIPS AUCTION daily, however your posting allows feedback comments to be made, John does not offer this, I don't blame him after all the negative crap he gets, (I did not know Major Lance but I bought his records). I would of thought the only negative comments any one could make about John would come from other dealers in that he gets more for his record sales, For example there are 4 dealers selling a issue of Helen Shapiro STOP on Columbia at the moment that's a good healthy competition, If JM gets the most it will be due to one thing only, that his auction stands for quality can be assured, Please keep this thread going. DAVE K
  13. HI ALL...On listening to the record again got me wondering who first played this classic & where, at a guess maybe 100 club? however I'm sure it had plays in the 7ts, any one?? DAVE K
  14. HI ALL ... DAVE I have £30 for a copy with Picture sleeve if you can get me a copy? sold my copy in the 8ts, Dave K
  15. HI ALL .... The ABC PARAMOUNT LABEL Shown is the 1st release in 1966 it was in 1967 that the PARAMOUNT Company split away from ABC, Most if not all releases from that point had it's focus on the movie industry releasing film scores, "paint your wagon" is a good example, In 67 all releases come out just on the ABC LABEL in the USA, The UK releases still mentioned both ABC & PARAMOUNT COMPANYS, As with all the UK HMV ABC PARAMOUNT output it both R&W AND G&W DEMOS state US COMPANY,, Cheers DAVE K
  16. HI ALL 100% UK PETE, It's not a common sleeve, in fact it quite rare, I don't understand some people saying that it's common when clearly both of us know different, DAVE K
  17. The 6x6 is a must have item for the MOTOWN completest, like yourself I have never seen it in that form and thinking about it my estimate should be higher than £40 on a set sale, as it is a true rare record, be good to get a collector of MOTOWN to give an opinion about it, DAVE K
  18. Hi All Pete I have always seen your valuations to be fair, but I think the 6x6 DEMO would be closer to £40 than £25 it is much rarer than the standard copy, the marvellous Ray Whirlpool is a good buy also at your estimate value, top sound from the 8ts that could easy go big again due to the very small numbers offered for sale, good luck, happy new year. DAVE K
  19. Hi All I'm again sorry that I have not been active with the club, & many things have not gone to plan, & for some reason I have been stuck on the FACEBOOK pages of UK SOUL (probably because Mick S contributes to the thread) Still we must start an new page title which I intend to do asap, if you have any questions about the club, please can you let me know as the new thread will start later or early to morrow morning, Big RESPECT to you all we will have a blinding 2015, MANY THANX DAVE K LATERS my new sponcer
  20. HI ALL The 1972 demo is the dud, looks like the original h press but has j instead there is also a demo with I in the matrix also another with green writing, as these are so alike compared with the others, you will find out when you try selling it, DAVE K
  21. HI ALL HAPPY WELL ARE YOU, CHRISTMAS, WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELABRATE THE BABY JESUS! HOWEVER THIS EARLY CHICARGO DOO WOPPER WILL GET MARY & JOSEPH STOMPING WITH THE SHEPARDS AROUND MIDNIGHT, A GREAT 2 SIDER BY THE MARYLYNS - MY HEART IS YOURS - TOWER RECORDS, B SIDE IS THE BREAK (MY PREFERD SIDE, BUT CAN'T FIND A DOWNLOAD) ENJOY THIS UNTIL I DO, ALSO A MERRY YULE TO YOU ALL DAVE K https://youtu.be/iCWIojs2uuU
  22. HI ALL... IT amuses me that the argument that UK SOUL is not worth the same as US, we will ditch that after the sale, this is a great record and will always be played unlike so many great tunes that lose out once they go mainstream, and indeed I'm glad I have a RED & WHITE $tateside DEMO, as all the demos Yellow London & the 2 $tatesides R&W G&W will become very elusive, unless they sell for big money, I wonder what the dealers think the demos will sell at after this goes? Pete S what says you, I will not have a bid today, but would like to? DAVE K
  23. HI ALL.. About 2 years ago I did the same thing PETE, I then had to dig out the TRACK & POLYDOR 45s from DETROIT and they would make if all were played a excellent DJ spot any time, also the memories of the TRACK BACKTRACK series was it 6 or 9? with some great examples of the RIC-TIC GOLDEN WORLD REVILOT GROOVESVILE records that rivalled MOTOWN in the late 6ts, here as you all know is the vocal & my fave rave the HOLIDAYS featuring EDWIN STARR, & the instrumental; "MAKIN TIME" a wee bit more expensive on the UK release but us copy is cheap? I have only 2 more POLYDOR 45s to go in fact it's more as I need a couple of demos also. DAVE 2 from the collection
  24. Hi All it's stumps here? Martyn I'm Irish Basck Romany, with cockney roots, but I understand your point of view as it comes from the "HERE & NOW" OF SOUL MUSIC COLLECTING, mine is from what now seems a million years ago collecting scene, a scene where searching for records was hard work & secretive, knowlage & respect was gained & only passed on deep withi the collectors scene, as you & most people now understand the SOUL SCENE was based on finding records that were unknown to others & over a period of time these records become the ones that we hunted down, in comparison with US records the UK issues are far more rarer & the DEMOS rarer still, back at the start of the scene the average price for a record was about 7/6d for a UK 45 & 15/-s for a US 45, my take home pay in 1967 was £3.15s 6d a week, buying records depended on your local record shop stock and what they had varied around the country, but there were no outlets for soul & old records with the exception of 6 shops in England this included SOUL CITY MOORES SELECTA & REDIFUSION, it was not until the 1970s that the 1st stash of US 45s come to the UK & by then most of the classic up-tempo 45s had been discovered, I n 1971 the t first soul collectors went to the US searching, and that's when the RARE SOUL SCENE changed into the NORTHERN SOUL SCENE, Collecting all the top UK sounds is a passion of love hate as it hooks you in, but the it is achievable, US RARE SOUL is never ending expensive & you are always chasseing records, as soon as you get the one you are after, some dealer is flashing the next must have, & you are hooked. Also with EBAY & RECORD COLLECTOR MANSHIPS GUIDES the scene is more in your home than out in the wide world, as we won't be going back to the early days I accept the changes, but I still get more from finding & having UK 45s and US 45s, which I have a decent collection off, DAVE
  25. HI ALL... I'VE BEEN TAKING A GANDER AT SOME OF THE POSTS AS YOU DO? This one from Martyn, caught my attention, oldies nights are good fun as long as you don't play anything that you have heard played again & again in the past 5 years? would like to attend, also Martyn don't play stuff that are classed as collectable to British collectors on US labels, I think it is almost like playing bootlegs, If it come out in the UK that will be the rarest with the odd exception,, DAVE K
